BOOK DESCRIPTION A kick-ass teenage girl, a nation swarming with zombies, and a sweet romance that grows amongst the ruins. Readers have said it's had them on the edge of their seats, reading all through the night and still craving more. Eva was just an everyday girl, working as a waitress, hanging out with her friends, and falling in love. But her world changed overnight when a powerful virus spread throughout the country, transforming it into a wasteland of deadly disease and crazed zombies. With Australia cut off from the rest of the world and rampant with terror and chaos, Eva and her friends must do whatever they can to survive. Set in Australia, horror, friendship and true love collide to make this tale of survival stand out from the rest. The Eva Series will make you smile, scream, cry and fist-pump the air as you go on a wild and dangerous ride with Eva and her friends. And it all starts here, as they rise. This series is off to an excellent start! 5/5.” – Fox Emm, ZombieApocalypse.net “Wilde skillfully combines fun, quirky characters and a terrifying world.” – Rainey, Goodreads review “This was a delight to read… Eva kicks ass and you can’t help but root for her all the way.” – Rouelle, Goodreads review “The way the author describes the events in the story really get me excited and even makes me feel like I’m actually in the situation the characters are in themselves.” – A. Claudio, Goodreads review THE EVA SERIES: Book 1: As They Rise Book 2: While We Fall Book 3: Before It Fades

The 4 main characters were very easy to get to know and love and I felt I was right there with them all the way! If you are going to purchase the first book... you may as well get them all. There was lots of action, heartbreak and suspense! I don't know the author but she did a great job with these 3!

Eva is the kind of Kickass character all woman hope and dream to be, and fighting and killing zombies is her thing. With her crush/boyfriend and best friends. This world I would come back to to get that rush of adrenaline

Dr. Josh Compton had obsessed for more than three years about stopping the serial killer known only as The Ghost. But that monster was always two steps ahead of him. The hunt was starting to take over his life. The only thing that mattered to him was his position with the Complex Crimes Unit of the FBI:PAVAD division and stopping The Ghost. And then The Ghost decided to come after him... Dr. Kelly Reynolds spent most of her time trying to figure out just where she fit into the new normal she'd found in St. Louis, with the FBI:PAVAD division and the family she'd reunited with. With the friends she was making. Maybe she'd eventually open up enough to let a few of those friends in...if she didn't fall victim to a crazed serial killer first. Josh would protect Kelly with everything he had, even if that meant staying close to the woman who only saw him as a friend...

Unfortunately, the errors were worse in this book, and the writing style was repetitive. In the other books, I could overlook the errors because the stories and characters were really good. This story was severely lacking in action until the ending, the romantic chemistry was just mediocre. My favorite characters from the previous books were mentioned by name but had no impact on the story or dialog. Honestly, I am pretty irritated because this was not a cheap book, and it did not progress the series at all. I totally could have skipped it. I have noticed the author quickly turning out several PAVAD spin off story's, I wish she would allow down, get back to true suspense stories with fully developed storylines rather than the completely unbelievable and not at all creepy Amazon of a serial killer from this story. Also, a much lower price or some serious editing would be helpful. The PAVAD series has been an automatic buy for me, but it won't be after this book. I seriously hope the author will get back into the style of the great stories like Georgia and Hell, Carrie and Seb, and Paige and Mick.

This will not be one of them. I was really looking forward to Josh and Kelly's story but it was all over the place. Their interactions were just all over the place, they were both wishy washy about a relationship. On some level that is to be expected but they have been friends for so long I couldn't understand how either one of them could question how much they actually meant each other-even if it wasn't on a romantic level. There was so much more time spent with this back and forth crap between Kelly and Josh and not much time spent on the actual mystery part of the story. I gave it 4 stars because overall I liked the story but it is not one that I will read again anytime soon. There really isn't much description I can give about the story itself. Josh and Kelly figuring it out and a serial killer who has the hots for Josh without his knowledge. She kills so she can get to see him and doesn't like it when she sees Kelly and Josh together. Their is a big bru ha ha at the end and then the prospect of the HEA. Of course we know as long as there are future stories we will learn more about their HEA. So if you are a big fan of the series, this is worth the read just be prepared that it might not be one of her best. If you haven't read this series before-go back and start at the beginning with Georgia and Hell's story. You'll be hooked :-)

Not as good as the others By Cyndi I enjoyed the first few books in the PAVAD series they were filled with drama and suspense and edge of your seat action. The sex scenes were young adult but the stories didn't need more. The first book with Georgia and Hellbrook was so intense...from the very beginning I was on the edge of my seat. Not only were they trying to track a killer but someone else was targeting them?!?! So exciting. And the passion between the H & h felt more real. But around the 4th or 5th book it started to feel like all of the stories were the same. Someone within the FBI or PAVAD was a bad guy or one of the agents were being stalked by crazy psychopaths. I'm disappointed to say that after 10 books I only remember 2 stories standing out as different from the others. But all in all these are good books and easy reads because they are uncomplicated with enough action and suspense to keep your attention. Plus, the relationship with not only the H & h but everyone on the team plays out so closely you can't help but love them all.

It's been four years since twenty-eight-year old Alicia Black, daughter of Reverend Curtis Black, divorced her second husband, the most womanizing and corrupt man she has ever known. Since then, Alicia has been dating her first husband, Phillip Sullivan, a wonderfully kind and true man of God whom she'd hurt terribly by cheating on him. Alicia has worked hard to prove herself worthy of his trust once more, and when he asks her to marry him again, she couldn't be happier. But Levi Cunningham, the drug dealer Alicia had an extramarital affair with, has just been released from prison, and he has completely turned his life around for the better. Still head-over-heels in love with Alicia, he will do whatever is necessary to win her back. Remarrying Phillip is the one thing Alicia has wanted for years, but she can't get Levi out of her mind. Alicia and Phillip aren't the only ones in the middle of a crisis. Their best friends, husband and wife Brad and Melanie Richardson, are struggling to keep their marriage together. Workaholic Brad is never home and has begun losing thousands on bad investments. Or so he says. Melanie, who is certain there's more to the story, is determined to get at the truth. At the same time, her frustration and stress cause her to eat a lot less, and she behaves in an extreme fashion. Alicia worries that she could be suffering from anorexia, but Melanie steadfastly denies it. Their friendship begins to suffer, and it isn't long before they're talking to each other like enemies. Fresh betrayal leads to consequences no one saw coming, and Alicia's relationship with Phillip might not be the only thing that needs saving. But is it already too late?Email: kim@kimroby.comFacebook.com/kimberlalawsonrobyTwitter.com/KimberlaLRobyInstagram.com/kimberlalawsonrobyPeriscope.com/kimberlalawsonroby

In this fascinating installment of The Reverend Curtis Black Series, we journey into the lives of Pastor Black's eldest daughter, Alicia. She's spent the last few years redeeming herself and trying to earn her rightful place in Phillip's heart. Just when it seems that all is lining up and she'll have her happily ever after, an irresistible blast from the past resurfaces and shakes things up in Alicia's present world. Levi is determined. He's intoxicating. His words are poetic and the chemistry between them is alluring to say the least. Phillip loves Alicia with every fiber of his being. Having experienced the worse kind of pain at her hands years prior, he's pushed past that in hopes of a brighter future. This is the installment to rival many as Kimberla Lawson Roby has pulled out all the stops in this one. What would you do if the love you had was strong but not as strong as the love that you were drawn to? Perfectly penned was the web that was drenched in what's right and what's wrong, what feels good and what actually is good for you. She deals with matters of the heart but also addresses very important social issues in the lives of Alicia's best friend, Melanie. This book draws you in and you become attached to the characters. You want to pick sides. There's a battle between the heart and mind but in classic Kimberla fashion, the love of God shows up when He's needed. Not to mention the fact that we have the good Reverend Curtis Black on the right track and delivering great advice in a real talk manner. Hallelujah! He was not playing with Alicia! I loved this book! I read the second half twice! I became submerged in the drama. I took a plunge into the suspense that had me yelling "Ooh, No, Wait, OMG!" It was phenomenal! It truly was worth the wait! Five stars!

In the past, Alicia had some issues with deception, lying, and cheating on her husband Philip. After some time apart, Alicia gets a second chance with Philip and she is getting her " happily ever after”. That's until Levi pops back into the picture. As much as Alicia tries to deny it, she and Levi had a connection that is undeniable. Will Levi throw a monkey wrench in Alicia's chance at happiness with Philip or will she be able to resist him?The Ultimate Betrayal is one of the best books I've read so far. I have read every single book in the Reverend Curtis Black series and this is a great one. I loved how no matter how much drama, lying, and cheating there is, Kimberla Lawson Roby always ties in God. There is a lot of detail included for each character in this story, but it's not overdone. It's a book that'll be hard to put down. It's one of those books that will have you gasping, screaming at the characters like they're in front of you. So far, The Ultimate Betrayal one is my favorite books in this series. Highly recommended!JackieUrban Reviews

But then again, I said that after the 2nd book of the Curtis Black series. Authoress Roby always keeps me coming back. I'm hooked! I think this is how an addict feels when they're coming down from a binge.I read this book in less than two days and already looking for the next (please let there be another).I really understand Alicia in this book. You can't help who you love. Alicia tried to fight it - but that darn Levi was like a bad penny, he just kept turning up. When the chemistry is as good as it is between these two - it was bound to happen.Oh, and let's not forget the drama unfolding between Brad & Melonie. I don't have an eating disorder, but I can understand how it could get out of hand. She's starving herself, yet that self righteous husband has an outside family he's been taking care of. (you can never keep a baby secret)...I hope I didn't give too much away.Authoress Roby - keep doing what you do. But, at this rate - your next book will need to come with a six week stay in rehab.**It takes one to know one: This is how The Right Reverend Black knew when his sweet baby Alicia was messing up**

Mr. Humblebrag By DreSno87 "Everybody likes a winner, as long as he acts like a loser." -Mr. HumblebragIMPRESSION:Mr. Humblebrag is a super witty parody book that describes this extravagant life that Mr. Humblebrag shares with his wife Little Miss Porn Star. He brags about all of these unrealistic achievements such and assumes that his boasting is okay as long as he has a little humility about it. The validation he gets is satisfying to him. For example, Mr. Humblebrag goes on a tropical cruise vacation, but posts to social media, "Leave it to me to twist my ankle doing the limbo, now I have to stay off my feet for a week!" while posting a photo of him and his wife sipping papaya coladas in the pool. This parody book is for adults, although you could teach children a thing or two about how society hates and reacts to these types of people! I personally got a good chuckle out of this light hearted read. The illustrations by Dylan Klymenko were cute too.The author has other books of this style in a series and I cannot wait to collect them all. These would make a great stocking stuffer or birthday gift for people who share a love for sarcasm and light humor.Oh and one more thing, if you love hashtags.. #MrHumblebrag #blessed #grateful #poor, lol.. then this is definitely for you! ;)FTC DISCLAIMER: I received this book complimentary from Blogging For Books in exchange for my honest review.

Lietz Mr. Humblebrag is a short parody for adults, written by Dan Zevin in the style of the Mr. Men and Little Miss books. This book covers that person that everyone knows who seems to always be able to best any of your accomplishments, special events and favorite purchases. The book also discusses the self-depreciating bragger, who might decide to rub it in a little when they experience a minor misfortune in the midst of obvious luxury or consumption. This amusing book is a quick read and would be a funny gift for anyone that you know well. It would also be a good bathroom book.Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for writing an honest review. I did not receive any other compensation.

The book is not a childrens' book, no matter how cute the cover.Mr. Humblebrag has successes in his life, but he downplays them to get sympathy from other folks.. He doesn't want folks to hate him for his successes and plays up his modesty. I have done this before. He makes me want to pop up upside the head throughout the whole book. .Disclaimer: I read the book in exchange for honest review.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. Marrying a man she didn't love was surprisingly easy, Jasmine Kouri thought as she handed her empty champagne flute to a passing waiter. Why had she wasted so much time struggling to be alone? She should have done this a year ago.

Her engagement party was in full force. All of Qusay's high society—everyone who'd once scorned her—was now milling beneath the white pavilion on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, sipping Cristal in solid gold flutes as they toasted her engagement to the second richest man in Qusay.

Her fiancé had spared no expense. Jasmine's fifteen-carat diamond ring scattered prisms and rainbows of refracted sunlight every time she moved her left hand. It was also very heavy, and the pale green chiffon dress he'd chosen for her in Paris felt hot as her skirts swirled in the desert wind. Across the wide grassy vista, the turrets of his sprawling Italianate mansion flew red flags emblazoned with his personal crest.

Then again, Umar Hajjar never spared any expense— on anything. Everything he owned, from his world-class racehorses to his homes around the world, proclaimed his money and prestige. He'd pursued Jasmine for a year in New York, and yesterday, she'd suddenly accepted his proposal. This party was Umar's first step in making the people of Qusay forget her old scandal. He would shape Jasmine into his perfect bride, the same as he trained a promising colt into a winner: at any cost.

But that wasn't why Jasmine's heart was pounding as she looked anxiously through the crowds in the pavilion. She didn't care about money. She was after something far more precious.

Jewel-laden socialites pressed forward to congratulate her, including some whose vicious gossip had ruined her when she was young and defenseless. But it would be bad manners to remember that now, so Jasmine just thanked them and smiled until her cheeks hurt.

Then she caught her breath as she saw the people she'd been waiting for.

Her family.

The last time she'd seen them, Jasmine had been a scared sixteen-year-old girl, packed off into poverty and exile by her harsh, heartbroken father and quietly weeping mother. Now because of this marriage, no one would ever be able hurt Jasmine—or her family—ever again.

With a joyful cry, she held her arms wide, and her grown-up sisters ran to embrace her.

"I'm proud of you, my daughter," her father said gruffly, patting her on the shoulder. "At last you've done well."

"Oh, my precious child." Her mother hugged her tearfully, kissing her cheek. "It's too long you've been away!"

Both her parents had grown older. Her proud father was stooped, her mother gray. The sisters Jasmine remembered as skinny children were now plump matrons with husbands and children of their own. As her family embraced her, the wind blew around Jasmine's ladylike dress, swirling around them all in waves of sea-foam chiffon.

It was all worth it, she thought in a rush of emotion. To be with her family again, to be back at home and have a place in the world, she would have given up a hundred careers in New York. She would have married Umar a thousand times.

"I missed you all so much," Jasmine whispered. But all too soon, she was forced to pull away from her family to greet other guests. Moments later, she felt Umar's hand on her arm.

He smiled down at her. "Happy, darling?"

"Yes," she replied, wiping away the streaks of her earlier tears. Umar hated to see her mussed. "But some of the guests are growing impatient for dinner. Who is this special guest of yours and why is he so late?"

"You'll see," he replied, leaning down to kiss her cheek. Tall and thin and in his late forties, Umar Hajjar was the type of man who wore a designer suit to his stables. His face was pale and wrinkle-free with the careful application of sunscreen; his dark gray hair was slicked back with gel. He tilted his head. "Listen."

Frowning, she listened, then gradually heard a sound like thunder. She looked up, but as usual in the desert island kingdom, there were no clouds, just clear sky blending into sea in endless shades of blue. "What is that?"

"It's our guest." Umar's smile widened. "The king."

She sucked in her breath.

"The…king?" Sudden fear pinched her heart. "What king?"

He laughed. "There is only one king, darling."

As if in slow motion, she looked back across the wide grass.

Three men on horseback had just come through the massive wrought-iron front gate. The Hajjar security guards were bowing low, their noses almost to the ground, as the leader of the horsemen rode past, followed by two men in black robes.

They all had rifles and hard, glowering faces, but the leader was far taller and more broad-shouldered than the others. A ceremonial jeweled dagger at his hip proclaimed his status while the hard look in his blue eyes betrayed his ruthlessness. Beneath the hot Qusani sun, his robes were stark white against his deeply tanned skin as he leapt gracefully down from his black stallion.

Shaking in sudden panic, Jasmine looked at him, praying she was wrong. It couldn't be him. Couldn't!

But when she looked at his handsome, brutal face, she could not deny his identity. For thirteen years, she'd seen his face in her dreams.

Kareef Al'Ramiz, the barbarian prince of the desert.

The party guests recognized him with a low gasp that echoed her own.

Kareef. The man who'd seduced and deserted her to shame and exile. The man who'd caused the loneliness and grief of half her life. The man who'd made her pay so dearly for the crime of loving him.

And in a few days, Kareef Al'Ramiz would be crowned king of all Qusay.

Fierce hatred flashed through her, hatred so pure it nearly caused her to stagger. She clutched at Umar's arm. "What is he doing here?"

His thin lips curved in a smile. "The king is my friend. Are you impressed? It's part of my plan. Come."

He pulled her across the grass to greet the royal arrival. She tried to resist, but Umar kept dragging her forward in his thin, sinewy grip. The colors of white tent and green grass and blue sea seemed to blend and melt around her. Trying to catch her breath, to regain control, she twisted her engagement ring tightly around her finger. The enormous diamond felt hard and cold against her skin.

"Sire!" Hajjar called jovially across the lawn. "You do me great honor!"

"This had better be important, Umar," the other man growled. "Only for you would I return to the city in the middle of a ride."

At the sound of Kareef's voice—the deep, low timbre that had once sounded like music to her—the swirls of color started to spin faster. She started to fear she might faint at her own party. How would Umar react to that?

Marry me, Jasmine. Kareef's long-ago whisper echoed in her mind. He'd stroked her cheek, looking down at her with the deep hunger of desire. Marry me.

No! She couldn't face Kareef after all these years. Not now. Not ever!

Her heart pounded furiously in her chest. "I have to go," she croaked, pulling frantically away from Umar's grasp. "Excuse me—"

Startled by her strength, Umar abruptly let go. Knocked off balance, she stumbled forward and fell across the grass in an explosion of pale green chiffon.

She heard a low exclamation. Suddenly hands were on her, lifting her to her feet.

She felt the electricity of a rough touch, so masculine and strong, so different from Umar's cool, slender hands. She looked up.

Kareef's handsome, implacable face was silhouetted against the sun as he lifted her to her feet. His ruthless eyes were full of shadow. Blinding light cast a halo around his black hair against the unrelenting blue sky.

His hand was still wrapped over hers as their eyes locked. His pupils dilated.

"Jasmine," he breathed, his fingers tightening on hers.

She couldn't answer. Couldn't even breathe. She dimly heard the cry of the seagulls soaring over the nearby Mediterranean, heard the buzz of insects. She was barely aware of the two hundred highborn guests behind them, watching from the pavilion.

Time had stopped. There was only the two of them. She saw him. She felt his touch on her skin. Exactly as she'd dreamed every night for the last thirteen years, in dark unwilling dreams she'd had alone in her New York penthouse.

Umar stepped between them.

"Sire," the older man said, beaming. "Allow me to present Jasmine Kouri. My bride."

***

Kareef stared down at her beautiful face in shock.

He'd never thought he would see Jasmine Kouri again. Seeing her so unexpectedly—touching her— caused a blast of ice and fire to surge through his body, from his hair to his fingertips.

Against his will, his eyes devoured every detail of her face. Her long black eyelashes trembling against her creamy skin. The pink tip of her tongue darting out to lick the center of her full, red lips.

Jasmine's dark hair, once long and stick-straight, now was thickly layered past her shoulders, cascading over a flowy, diaphanous dress that seemed straight out of a 1930s Hollywood movie. The gown skimmed her full breasts and hips, tightly belted at her slim waist. Her graceful, slender arms could be seen through long sheer sleeves.

She was almost entirely covered from head to toe, showing bare skin only at the collarbone and hands, but the effect was devastating. She looked glamorous. Untouchable. He wanted to grab her shoulders, to touch and taste and feel her all over and know she was real. Just the mere contact of his fingers against hers burned his skin.

Then he realized what Umar Hajjar had said.

Jasmine—Hajjar's bride?

As if he'd been struck by a blow, Kareef abruptly released her. He glanced down at his fingers and was almost bewildered to find them whole. After the electricity he'd felt touching her hand, he'd half expected to find his fingers burned beyond recognition.

With a deep breath, he slowly looked up at her. ...

By Marilyn Shoemaker Jennie Lucas has written a real winner with her first venture into the sheikh genre with Tamed: The Barbarian King. It was such an emotional read of two strong characters who once were deeply in love and experienced a tragic ending with no hope for a second chance, or was there? In Book 1 Banished Sheikh, Untouched Queen we learned that the future king was not the natural heir but the missing son the king from Calista. In the end he abdicated and went to live with his new wife, the Queen. So now the throne of Qusay needs a king and it falls to the oldest son of the deceased King's brother, a nephew Kareef Al'Ramiz, a fierce warrior of the desert, a man of honor, a man who lost the love of his life 13 years ago when they fell in love, lost a child and there was a scandal which ruined her family and she was exiled to the United States. Now years later Jasmine Kouri has returned to her homeland engaged to a respected man of high society in Qusay and is soon to be wed and her family have forgiven her past mistakes because she is now marrying this well respected man, a man who for the most part controls her life. This very same man is also making her a ready made mother to his four children, giving her her hearts desire because when she lost her baby years ago she was told she would never bare children. As fate sometimes intervenes, Jasmine and her past lover the future King of Qusay are thrown together at her engagement party. Her fiance is called away on an emergency and asks that the future King Kareef take care of Jasmine, under his protection. As you can well imagine, it's very difficult for them both in more ways than one because they are still so very attracted to each other and Kareef is determined to have Jasmine in his bed so he makes the decision to take her to his desert home, a home he had once promised her. So many things happen........a car accident, a sand storm and their own full fledged storm, a romantic one that will literally take your breath away because they can't forget the past, a past that ties them together in more ways than you can imagine. A past of loving memories and horrible ones because of the loss of their child and the scandal their relationship caused their country and families.Towards the end of this very emotional love story, at times I had to put it down because I could feel their pain and their love and the possibility of a not so happy ending. The way author Jennie Lucas tied this story together was magnificent which also earned Tamed: The Barbarian King a spot on the USA Today Best Selling List and it's no wonder because it was such an emotional roller coaster with them getting their second chance plus leaving the throne of Qusay yet again without a King.Book Description:He's as wild as the desert, a barbarian prince, a revered leader. Long ago he loved a girl, but the power of their feelings almost destroyed them both. Now that woman, the only one he could ever love, is forbidden to him!Betrothed to another, unable to bear him sons, she is unfit to be his queen.... But she can stop the storm that has raged in his heart since he last made her his.His choice--take her as his mistress, or become the king he was born to be....Auithor's website [...].Behind the Book @I(heart)Presents[...].

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The story was so STUPID!! By Karen Clarke Flaw one - why on earth does author feel the need to put Jasmine in a tiny, shabby room with no air in the King's palace??? And the King apologises to Jasmine that his palace had no where to put the fiancee of his esteemed powerful friend? A guest under the King's protection? Get real.Flaw two - why does Jasmine have to be mindlessly stupid, dangerously riding a horse in unstable conditions, only to surprise surprise, fall off the horse and now puts herself, Kareef and his horse in even more life-threatening danger. I can't appreciate stupidity.Flaw three - endlessly depressing......with a shallow HEA. How fortuitous that everybody was cheating on everybody so it made the HEA convenient.Sorry to the 4/5 star reviews about the sorrow and the pain that truly does intertwine Kareef and Jasmine. Still, I found the story had too many dumb holes that made it so stupid. I'm not being 1 star mean - Rafiq and Sera's story from Forbidden: The Sheikh's Virgin was also depressing but I could not fight the sweetest, most unusual HEA so it earned 5 stars from me. Talir and Annalisa's story will also be reviewed 5 star worthy.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An outstanding read ... By mgentry I wanted more from this book in the series - more story that is. There are so many moving parts to this book and I really hoped for some conclusions. The storyline continues to get better and the character development just keeps growing. Please hurry with the next book in this series. So until the next book - read, enjoy, learn, and save some food.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Truly Captivating By Tazcatter The storyline is great, but keeping up with the plots is challenging. All in all its worth the time and money. Can't wait for the next book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another book you wished continued on and on. By Elisabeth B. Stanton Hate having to wait. Wish the author used "all ready" and properly used "than" and "then." Loved the story. A little more development of characters would be great. Some visual cues as they go along. Still, far better than his contemporaries. Also wish he would research technical details. A black and white horse is more likely a paint overo than an Appaloosa. Picky I am.

Interview with the Author Q:  Have you always wanted to be a writer?A:  I'm an attorney and have done a lot of technical writing, but knew I wanted to write novels. I thought I'd find time when I retired. Fate stepped in, as it often does, and put me on this path sooner. I broke my neck in an auto accident and suffered from double vision for months. I couldn't read or watch TV, so I conceived the plot for my 5 book Rosemont series. Q:  Why did you decide to write a series?A:  I prefer television series to movies. The longer format of television allows for deeper character development. The same holds true for series fiction. I like to fall in love with a character or hate a character (but root for them to change their ways). I feel like Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi from Alexander McCall Smith's Ladies' Detective Agency series are old friends. I wanted to recreate that sort of connection in the Rosemont series. Q:  What other authors do you read or admire?A:  I'm a fan of women's fiction, women's sagas, and romance. I love Rosamunde Pilcher's later trilogy - The Shell Seekers, Coming Home, and September. Jan Karon's Mitford series creates an enchanting world, as does Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove. My Rosemont series is set in the current day, but I've tried to capture a feeling of comraderie and connection (among the good guys) that takes us back to a slightly simpler time and place. Q:  What are your favorite books?A:  In addition to the works I've already mentioned, I adored Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and A Long Way from Chicago. Q:  Who has had the greatest influence on your author life?A:  My dad--without question. He told me or read me a bedtime story every night of my childhood, often adding his own twists and turns to the plots or dialogue. He had an incredible, gentle sense of humor. He also wrote novels--who-done-its--when he retired. I have 17 of his manuscripts and can feel his comforting presence in the room with me when I pick up his pages and read.Q:  What of your own interests have you written about in the Rosemont series?A:  I love my home and all things related to homemaking: cooking, gardening, decorating, and entertaining. I love celebrating all of the seasons and I change my decor for Easter, 4th of July, fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring. I'm also addicted to vintage silver and all sorts of china, with a special fondness for teapots.

Her life is never a dull moment. There is constant work involved in keeping up with her job as mayor, including the in-depth investigation in the town’s fraud and embezzlement problem. In addition, she has found herself the surrogate mother for a litter of kittens which requires frequent feedings. This is the third novel of the author’s Rosemont series. Unfortunately, I have yet to read the first two but I will need to do that soon as I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I think it would make a terrific TV series.

Battles are raging across the world and BPRD is now under federal jurisdiction. Liz Sherman and Hellboy are still missing in action, leaving Abe and the rest of the team to continue on their work...and spread themselves thin. In one town Abe discovers that people are missing. Vanishing suddenly without a trace...and one woman seems to be at the center of it all. In other areas of the world the team continues to battle the creatures that are appearing and dealing with the public backlash. It's a changed world and only BPRD can protect us.First of all I have to say I haven't caught up on Hellboy...and that definitely affects the reading of the story as I have no idea what happened in the rain of frogs or who some of the characters are or their relationships with each other. It makes it a bit confusing in some places, but that's not necessarily the fault of the story just that you have to have some of the backstory. The overall story though is quite excellent and once you get past not knowing who some of the characters is quite easy to follow and get caught up in the excitement and the mystery. And it's nice to see Abe take the lead and show some anger. Mignolia shows us entirely new worlds, but makes them ones that we can easily understand and grasp--even though they are often so different. If you're an avid Hellboy/BPRD fan then this is definitely the book for you. If you're like me and a bit behind go ahead and read it, but be prepared for a bit of confusion of the characters.

Same old scary By Sam Quixote The first Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence (BPRD) cycle finished with "Vol 14: King of Fear" and the second one starts anew with "BPRD, Hell on Earth 1: New World". While the first cycle more or less became concentrated on the "Plague of Frogs" storyline, this series purports to be about something else - but what? From the looks of it, its BPRD business as usual. A Lovecraftian monster is up to no good and the BPRD set out to stop it. Abe Sapien and Johann Kraus are led by Kate Corrigan, acting head of BPRD while Manning's elsewhere, and they're joined by an ancient poltergeist called Panya. Liz Sherman is still missing and Hellboy's off doing his own thing. So apart from a big scary monster stealing souls of ordinary townfolk in the Pacific North West, there's not much of a storyline going on here nor any hints on where this series is headed. Overall there isn't much here for any long-time fans of the series to sink their teeth into, and at the end I felt kind of bored by a very average effort from the usually great team of Mike Mignola/ John Arcudi/ Guy Davis. It'd be interesting to see where this series is going but don't expect much from this disappointing first book in the new BPRD series.

Reninger Having finally defeated the Plague of Frogs, the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense has gone public in a big way. They've even been commandeered by the United Nations, which is a very mixed blessing. Sure they have more funding, but instead of choosing what occurrences they will investigate, they now have to investigate everything, everywhere. The agents are stretched out across the globe investigating every subterranean monster that pops up as well as every freak volcano that erupts where it shouldn't (sorry, readers from Houston, but your city is wiped out).Dr. Kate Corrigan is left in charge of the B.P.R.D. and tries her best to keep the team together. Abe Sapien is off investigating the Pacific Northwest, where he discovers a monster that has been stripping small towns of their populations. Out in the woods, he finds an old friend who helps unravel the mystery and explain the unthinkable horror that has descended upon them. The book mostly follows Abe's exploits, though the internal dramas at the Headquarters are followed as a b-story, presumably setting up future story arcs and conflicts. The horror is delivered both on the psychological level and on the visual level, with Cthulhu-esque monsters prowling around the globe. I'm ready to see more of the gang picking up the pieces in the aftermath of near-world destruction by the frogs. Send more quick!
