Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. The hands on the clock didn't seem to have moved even once in all the time that she had been sitting here. Alannah could have sworn that every time she glanced up at the big white circle that hung on the green-painted wall opposite the big hand and the little hand were in exactly the same position as they had been the last time she had looked, making a mockery of the audible sound of the minutes ticking away.

She felt as if she had been here all afternoon—almost all her life. And yet time hardly seemed to have moved on from the moment she had arrived and taken her place in the rather worn armchair in the middle of the room.

From here she could watch the door. She could see the approach of anyone coming near through the clouded pane of glass, and be ready if the door should open and the man she was expecting appeared.

The man she was expecting? Dreading would be more like it, Alannah admitted to herself, green eyes clouding rapidly.

She shook her head so that the red-gold swathe of her hair tossed along her shoulders, straggling strands escaping from the black elasticated band into which she had confined it before leaving home that morning, and rubbed the back of her hand across her eyes in a vain attempt to drive away the weariness and apprehension that clutched at her.

She knew she looked pale and wan. The stress and sorrow of the past few days had drained every last drop of pink from her cheeks, tears had dimmed the brightness of her eyes and the set of her fine features reflected the strain of the nightmare week she had just endured. The jeans she had pulled on together with a plain black long-sleeved T-shirt, her mind too battered to even think of anything else, did nothing for her appearance. It took even more colour from her skin and left it looking lifeless and washed out. And she hadn't had either the time or the inclination to add any artificial colour with a touch of make-up before she had left her flat. The need to know that her mother was settled at her aunt's house, heavily sedated because of the shock, had been much more important than any personal grooming.

Still, what did that matter? The man she was here to see wouldn't give a damn about her appearance or how she was dressed. He wouldn't want to see her here in the first place and he'd be even less happy about it when he heard what she had to say.

'Of course, Mr Marcín…'

A sudden bustle in the corridor beyond the door alerted her, the sound of the all-too-familiar name confirming her suspicions. Not that she'd needed them confirmed. Whenever and wherever Raul Marcín appeared, it seemed that instantly everything was bustle and activity. Even the air around him appeared enlivened, stirring and swirling in a way that left other more ordinary humans catching their breath in the suddenly rarefied atmosphere.

Once she had been part of that atmosphere, carried along on the tidal wave of energy and power that Don Raul Esteban Marquez Marcín created as he strode through life, arrogant dark head held high, golden eyes blazing. But not any more. Not since she had fled that world and all it brought with it.

And she was well out of it.

It was a world of power and money, yes—but there had also been cold deceit and even icier manipulation. Don Raul Marcín took what he wanted from people— from women—and used them to fulfil his own desires, without a thought for their feelings. He'd done that to her. And he would have discarded her too, she had no doubt. He would have tossed her aside when the purpose she had served was finished—done with. But luckily for her vulnerable heart, and before the foolish emotions she had allowed herself to feel had become so deeply embedded in her spirit that she could have had no hope of ever tearing them out, she had discovered the truth about their relationship. And that truth had set her free. Making her run as far and as fast as she could, never looking back, and never wanting to see Raul Marcín ever again.

Which was how she would have wanted it to stay. Except that now she had no choice. None at all. She had to face Raul Marcín once again. Face him and tell him things she had no doubt that he did not want to hear.

'If you would just wait in here…'

A hand pushed open the door, bringing with it, Alannah would have sworn, a rush of swirling air, and a male voice murmured a word of thanks, although with an edge of impatience on the sound.

Immediately Alannah found that her hands had gone to smooth her hair, straighten her top, and with a mutter of annoyance and reproach she forced them still again. She didn't want him thinking that she wanted to improve her appearance for him; or believing that she was in the least concerned what he would think of her. Once that might have mattered to her; once she might have wanted more than all the world that he would look at her and smile, desire flaring in his eyes—but that had been in the past. Now desire was the last thing she wanted him to feel, so it didn't matter a damn if she was as scruffy and unkempt as some street urchin in a small village on his family's vast estate.

'I'll get that sorted out straight away.Gracias,' that voice said again, sending shivers of recognition down Alannah's spine. She wasn't going to let herself feel anything. Not now. Not after all that had happened.

She heard him come into the room, felt his presence in the atmosphere, but still didn't dare bring herself to lift up her head and actually look at him. The sudden quiver of awareness that flashed through her body twisted in nerves that were already stretched, turned her natural apprehension into something that was close to a physical pain. It took all her strength to subdue it so that she could only stare at the floor, focusing her gaze on the green and grey pattern of the slightly worn carpet at her feet.

'Perdón!'

He had become aware of her silent presence at the far side of the room and out of the corner of her eye she noticed how the tall, lean body stilled, stiffened. She couldn't see his face but there was a quality in his stillness, in that worrying silence, that told her his expression was changing, turning from polite greeting to realisation, to awareness. To…

'Alannah?'

Oh, dear God, but she had forgotten the way his use of her name affected her. That husky accent, the way that just the sound of his voice seemed to coil around her like warm, scented smoke, making her heart clench painfully.

'Alannah?'

She had to look at him now. She had no option. It was either that or let him guess just how much he affected her, and that was something she really didn't want him to know.

If she was honest, she'd been taken by surprise at it herself. She'd told herself that she could do this. That she could meet him, face him, tell him what he had to know and then go on her way, back to her life, the life she had built since she'd left him, all over again. She was away from him, she was free and nothing could change that. She was never going back.

But just the softly accented sound of her name on his lips had threatened that conviction disturbingly. She didn't know what it meant, but she was sure as she could be of one thing: she didn't want him to know about it.

'Hello, Raul.'

Trite and inane as it was, it was all that she could manage. And now she had to look at him. It was either that or make it obvious that she was holding back deliberately, that she was trying to do anything but look into his face.

So she lifted her head, forced her drooping eyelids wide open and met his bronze stare head-on.

He was bigger than she remembered. Or, rather, she had forgotten how tall, how strong and imposing he was. And it seemed that the passage of time had only added to the impact he made simply by walking into a room. She couldn't help wishing that she was not sitting down. The armchair was low and squat, making her feel uncomfortably vulnerable as Raul towered over her, overwhelming and ominously threatening.

In the two years since she had seen him, time had turned him from a young man into a dynamic, mature male. His powerful frame had become tauter, stronger, tightening muscles and enhancing his forceful stature. And nowhere were the effects of time on his bone structure more pronounced than in his face. The already lean shape, the high, slanting cheekbones were emphasised by the passage of time that had etched a few lines around his eyes and mouth. His brows seemed darker, thicker, and on either side of the straight slash of a nose his bronze eyes burned like molten gold, fiercely intent on her face.

Unlike her, he was immaculately dressed, the perfectly tailored lines of the elegant steel-grey suit he wore with a crisp white shirt clinging to those honed muscles, broad shoulders and narrow hips as if they had been moulded onto him. That suit and the pristine shirt were so much Don Raul Marcín, she reflected bitterly. So much the Raul she had known in the past. A man she had rarely seen in anything other than those tailored suits, almost never anything casual and relaxed. And his mind-set was the same. Always focused, always business, always working, making money. And when he wasn't working then his attention was on the one other thing that mattered to him—the dukedom of Marquez Marcín and all the land they owned.

'Buenas tardes Alannah.' It came stiffly, curtly, with an arrogant inclination of his head, barely acknowledging her and sending stinging pricks of indignation skit-tering over her skin.

Long time, no see. The flippant words hovered on her tongue but she caught them back, swallowing them down hard, knowing they were not in the least appropriate—nor would they be welcome.

'What are you doing here?'

The harsh demand in his tone drove all other thoughts from her mind, pushing her to her feet in a rush, her hands on the arms of the chair for support.

'The same as you, I presume. This is a hospital.'

'But I…'

The dawn of understanding in those burning eyes eased the sear of them over her skin, making her swallow again as her throat closed up in response to the sight.

He wanted to marry her and she laughed at him, denying ever having had any feelings for him. So why, months later, does she still affect him as much as she did when they were involved? Raul doesn't know the answer, but he is determined to find the reason and then use it against her.Alannah does the one thing she never thought she would ever do again. She contacts Raul Esteban and asks to meet with him. Coming face to face again with the man she has loved since she met him, Alannah knows that what she did months ago was reprehensible but she can't think about that right now. Right now she has a request of Raul and she is willing to do anything for him to grant it.Raul vows then and there, after meeting with Alannah, that she will pay for the way she treated him. Imagine his surprise when the promiscuous woman he believes her to be turns out to be the virgin of his dreams.Kate Walker is one of my most read authors at Harlequin. Her male characters are dominant and forceful. They demand their women and the results are steamy and sensual. Raul is such a character. He thoroughly thinks that Alannah is not to be trusted and as such, treats her exactly how he thinks a sexually active woman should be treated. Alannah, for all of her bluster and blunder, is a woman living somewhat of a lie. She isn't all that experienced and the one man that she loved lived to have her at his mercy. I was giddy with excitement as I read - not only was Raul an alpha, he was a sexy Spanish one.SPANISH BILLIONAIRE, INNOCENT WIFE by Kate Walker takes readers on a coaster of a ride with Raul and Alannah dancing around each other trying to protect their hearts. When the smoke cleared and each character admitted his/her feelings, then the love story began. I found SPANISH BILLIONAIRE, INNOCENT WIFE to be a pleasant and interesting afternoon read.

Frustrating and not in a good way By Amazon Customer The writing was excellent and the concept of the book wasn't bad but there were pages upon pages of "he means this" and "he doesn't mean that". Just tell him your feelings! I hate books where the angst is the hero and heroine don't talk to each other. If that is how their relationship is going to start then their marriage will never last. Also, I prefer to bask a little in the happy ending but this ending was a bit abrupt.

Sensual; Full of Tension By Marilyn Shoemaker The Spanish Billionaire, Innocent Wife was not only full of passion as only Kate Walker can write it also was moving, full of tension with extremely believable characters. What touched me the most was Raul, he was so vulnerable with his feelings for Alannah yet intensely angry. Even though he displayed his Alpha characteristics he touched me because his feelings for her were hidden inside from the moment she lied and left him he never really got over the pain or loss. Raul's love for his sister, his lost brother and his desire to produce an heir for his father will move anyone reading this incredibly beautiful love story. From the moment one begins reading this story set in a hospital where Alannah mourns her dead brother and friend, Lorena who turns out to be Raul's sister who has also passed, you just know that when Raul arrives on the scene the tension is going to explode......and it does with seismic force. As their story unfolds before the reader's eyes, the sexual tension, the emotion, the pain of their love for each other will rip out your heart especially when Alannah's feelings about her love for Raul, her wanting to give him an heir and her uncertainly of his feelings for her, well trust me you won't want to miss reading this wonderful and moving story. The Spanish Billionaire, Innocent Wife is just another example of the amazing Kate Walker and her sensual and entertaining love stories.

I loved the first one which I brought on paperback The art work is gorgeous and the story line is also really good! It's not always the huge names like Marvel, DC or Image that can make a really intriguing comic book. My advice is to give it a try! Well worth a read! Top stuff.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Sweet, clean romance that will make you smile! By Bedside Table Reviews I'm going to review each story briefly and then touch on the collection as a whole at the end.Catching Caytie by Amazon Top Seller Cindy Roland AndersonThis one has the best meet cute (is that what it's called?) out of all of them. You know, the moment our two future love birds meet? She runs a red light and almost takes out Jace's truck! Along the way to liking each other, Caytie also helps Kellen. If they do another Snow Valley set, I want his story!I give this one a solid 4.Tin Foil Tiaras by Amazon Top Seller Jeanette LewisSweet insecure Cameron! Pageant queen wanna-be who things she's not thin enough, pretty enough, talented enough. Instead she's going to do everything she can to push Annalisa to the crown. Or is she? Kyle is very distracting, and when he finally gives his reasons for not wanting his sister to win Cameron knows she has to look at things differently. I loved this story for this real look at how pushy moms can miss what's the most important.I give this one a 4.5.A Touch of Love by Amazon Top Seller Cami CheckettsThis one was my favorite. What I loved about this story was the fact Annie isn't your run of the mill romance heroine. She's so real it hurts! Of all the romance novels I've read, only one other woman wasn't perfect (she was in a wheelchair). None of us are perfect, and even though we read to escape, it was really refreshing to met Annie. To struggle with her as she tried to express herself. To fall in love with Luke right beside her because of his patience. Annie's insecurity and attempts to give up what she needs for someone she thinks needs it more is heart-wrenching and warming at the same time.I give this one a 4.5!First Love by Amazon Top Seller Taylor HartAh. This might be my other favorite. I'm a sucker for second chances and this one really packs a punch. If you've read Christmas in Snow Valley, you know that Janet was battling cancer in that set. She's got a new lease on life, but she knows how tenuous it can be. Can she risk handing her heart back to the boy she's always loved when he walked away so long ago? Especially when she still feels broken?I give this one a 4.5!Romancing Rebecca by Amazon Top Seller, Kimberley MontpetitHa! This one was confusing at first. So many firefighters! Who could be the real love interest? This is a bit of a spoiler (sorry!) but I love that history wins out in the end. ;) When it's right, it's right. Becca just has to give it a chance and let some of her preconceived notions go.This one is fun. I give it a solid 4.Love in Light and Shadow by Amazon Top Seller Lucy McConnellThis story made me smile all the way through. One of my favorite scenes is when Chet's sister tells him not to talk about all the boring trivia he knows. She has no idea that Mercedes loves that! Chet is just sweet in all the ways he tries to avoid Mercedes. Here's two people immediately drawn to each other like magnets, but Mercedes is afraid he'll be like all the others, and Chet is too humble to even chase her.I give this one a solid 4 for the steamy cowboy who brings art back to Mercedes life.As a collection, I have to say I love Snow Valley! It was easy to fall right in since I read the Christmas set three or four times. When the characters from those stories drifted "across the screen" I felt like I was seeing old friends while making these new ones.I give the whole set a solid 5 to show my support for well-written, CLEAN romance! It's got steam without things I feel best left behind closed doors.Plus, I'm a sucker for sweet stories that tug on the heartstrings and make me smile like I'm experiencing that first love sensation. My rating scale for book reviews1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love4: Solid mind candy / worth reading4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure

I loved how the main characters met and that they ended up spending so much time together when it happens they are going to be living under the same roof. Their story was so sweet and even when they were forced apart they found their way back to each other. It was a great feel good romance much like the first book!Tin foil tiarasI can't relate much to the beauty pageant scene because I never did it myself. I know that it is a lot of pressure on girls. I see the same thing with my daughters’ friends that dance. Glad both she and I never did either. I also liked that the Author addressed cutting. It isn't something very widely talked about and I wish it could get out more because I had a niece that had some issues with it. I think if people knew more about it maybe it could be helped or even stopped. All in all I loved this addition to snow valley!A Touch of LoveThis novella was awesome! One of my good friends stutters like Annie. I am sure that she has had some rough times because of it. We have always had a great time together and it has never bothered me. Annie and Luke's story was so sweet. I like that he was patient from the start, he never saw her as anything but beautiful and perfect for him. It was fun to get a glimpse of Kazlyn and Ty again! Another great book by my favorite Author! Love all of Cami's books!First LoveThis book was so sweet about past loves reuniting. At one point it almost had me crying. I love to see deserving people get their happily ever after and that is how this story goes. Loved it!Romancing RebeccaAnother great novella. Just when Becca thought her life wasn't going anywhere and she had no inspiration for the novel she wants to write everything in her life changes. I feel it was a great book for self discovery and happiness!Love in light and shadowThe Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite of the classic books! I loved the references to it! Chet and Mercedes had such a great story. Their playfulness and instant bond and understanding of each other reminded me of my husband and I. It was an excellent finish to a great set of novellas!NOTE: I WAS GIVEN A COPY OF THIS BOOK BY THE AUTHORS IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

Most everyone knew each other and the town pulled together for our Town Days, celebrated at the end of July. This compilation really brought back those memories for me and I'm now longing for those simpler times. In fact, I really want to find a place such as this to finish raising my family in. I loved Christmas in Snow Valley and this book solidified my love for this fictional town.I really enjoyed seeing snippets of the lives of the characters from the previous book (Christmas), but I really loved getting to know new characters. Each story brought a piece of the town and its inhabitants to life and it's so hard for me to choose a favorite. I loved each one for different reasons. The feelings of belonging, hope for the future, forging new ties and cementing old ties, hard work, and family are common themes running through each of these stories. I really hope there is more about this place and these people on the horizon!Content: mild romance and one or two had mild religious elements. Clean!*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*

In this memoir, Shhhh! Sad, Shocking and Sexy, Flook draws us into a world of childhood abuse baring beauty with brawn, love with illusion, and trust with betrayal that shadowed her for decades before finding her self-worth.       "Shhhh! is a sad, shocking and sexy story about what happened to a child born into an upper-class, Southern farm family when she didn't 'act like a lady.' In 1940 my father married his maid - twenty-seven years his junior. He was a proud 'ole peacock. She was his young hen. Mother lived to be the 'proper wife,' the 'proper mother.' We were to be 'ladies.' Mother was. My sister was. I wasn't.   I had to be broken.   The beatings with a switch from the willow tree, a belt or extension cord were used for the blistering, biting lashes given me from age three until I turned sixteen. I escaped Mother's wrath and the feeling of loneliness by going to Grandma's whenever I could. But not to Grandma's bosom or Grandma's big apron. I went to May's bed. May was Grandma's adopted niece, six years my senior. From the time I was four until I turned twelve, May filled my loneliness, fear and anger with sex.   I became aware of the enormity of childhood abuse after I finished writing this book. At the end of the 20th Century, they reported in the U.S. one in four boys and one is six girls were sexually abused. This gave me pause to ask why our society is so overburdened with obesity, alcohol, drug and sex addiction -- these are symptoms and direct results of childhood abuse. This put a light on all the self-abuse I had endured. Now I had understanding and compassion for me.My book is aimed at the countless and their families left casualties by their predators over some seventy years, from the 1930s through 1990s. This is an invitation for those who suffer to begin healing. I trust I can help lift the tarp, let the sun peak into the dark, and shine on those beautiful souls.    I believe no one wants to live in the dimness of addiction, or the aloneness of mental anguish!"

Shhhh!: Sad, Shocking and Sexy, by C.K. Flook

Review "The story has abuse at its center but its overarching tale of young women fighting to reconcile society's expectations with other desires also resonates. " - Kirkus Reviews      "However, the story's brutal emotional honesty is what keeps it moving." - Kirkus Reviews     "A frank, sometimes-disturbing debut novel that highlights the darkness that can lurk within picture-perfect families." - Kirkus Reviews

From the Author My book speaks to all who would like to take a deeper compassionate look into emotional, physical, and sexual abuse.     I went from a millionaire to welfare in the 1990s. That was a wake-up call. I realized then I led my life as a 'victim' and in fear of authority since my childhood abuse. The self-abuse with sex, drugs and alcohol was another result of this trauma. They became a shadow used to cover my shame and lack of self-confidence throughout my life. Now I was ready and willing to revisit my childhood; go there touch, taste, smell, and relive it. Writing this book was a beginning of my healing. This was the turning point to go from war to peace within.    I became aware of the enormity of childhood abuse after I finished writing this book. Now my desire is to bring more of our abused out from under the covers and help them alleviate some of their pain and shame.    From Darkness to Light, "Child sexual abuse is the most prevalent health problem children face with the most serious array of consequences." At the end of the 20th Century, they reported in the U.S. one in four boys and one is six girls were sexually abused. An estimated thirty-nine million survivors of childhood sexual abuse live in America today. This gave me pause to ask why our society is so overburdened with obesity, alcohol, drug and sex addiction -- these are symptoms and direct results of childhood abuse. This put a light on all the self-abuse I had endured. Now I had understanding and compassion for me.    My book is aimed at the countless and their families left casualties by their predators over some seventy years, from the 1930s through 1990s. This is an invitation for those who suffer to begin healing. I trust I can help lift the tarp, let the sun peak into the dark, and shine on those beautiful souls.   I believe no one wants to live in the dimness of addiction, or the aloneness of mental anguish!

From the Back Cover I did everything society said to be happy. I got the degrees: BA, a Montessori degree, and an MA. I married the "right" men who could "give me respect and boost my confidence." First an attorney. Had one daughter. The marriage ended after seven years because of his affairs. Eight years later, my second husband was a cardiologist from Virginia. We had a bi-coastal, whirlwind coke-induced love affair for eighteen months. The marriage lasted six months. I did things I thought might help society. I sent women to London for abortions before Roe v. Wade. I was active in the peace movement to stop the Vietnam War. I started NORML (the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) with my first husband. I had the right jobs: I wrote and produced for PBS. I won numerous awards. I wrote screenplays to shine the light on inequities. None of this alleviated my pain, shame, and suffering from the childhood beatings and sexual abuse that led to my self-abuse. My healing journey began with Shhhh!     "Flook's wild ride will have you clutching both your heart and your brain. The writing is superb and the hair-pin turns will keep you glued to every page. Buckle up and dive in, you'll enjoy the ride from the first page to the last." - Jack Grapes, author and coach of Method Writing        "Kelly Flook's moving, honest, and eye-opening memoir Shhhh! doesn't miss a single detail of her arduous, almost impossible journey. Despite the painful content, this is a must read for anyone who has been touched by their own or others' domestic abuse. ... Kelly's healing journey offers hope and wisdom." - Barbara Bottner, award-winning New York Times best-selling author.

A Gut Wrenching Story Turns into a Healing Journey By Linda Thompson, Host of The Authors Show Shhhh, Sad, Shocking and Sexy is a raw, nothing-held-back, personal story that is not light reading, and probably not appropriate reading for everyone. However, for those who are attempting to deal with their own emotional challenges and a history of sexual and domestic abuse, reading this book will be beneficial in your healing process. Reading Annalyn’s story will help you see that although your problems seem overwhelming, they may be minor in comparison to what Annalyn experienced from as early as she can remember. I suppose some would forgive Annalyn’s parents for their lack compassion and parenting skills. However, I am not one of those people. The author’s writing is from the heart, yet straight out of a horror show. How she survived is nothing short of amazing. Is it any wonder she struggled through school and into her adult years. There is just way too much history to sweep under the carpet. Ms. Flook is to be commended for her commitment to healing herself and for sharing her very heartbreaking story with the reading public. I truly admire authors who let the world into their most personal and private hell, and Flook is at the top of my admiration list. I can only hope that she has found contentment and happiness going forward.

Phoenix Rising By Lori Thomas Out of the ashes of years of abuse and self destruction arises a woman of strength, wisdom and integrity. This book will take you on a journey that may seem alien, shocking or too close for comfort, depending on your own history. There are many kinds of abuse - some overt, others subtle, but all leaving their mark, and especially for girls and women, all too often resulting in similar behavior - that of self destruction. This is a book that is frightening yet cathartic in its brutal honesty. It is a picture of our society that is too prevalent - but still so invisible and so very damaging. Many thanks to Kelly Flook for having the amazing courage to tell her story so that others know they are not alone. She shows that no matter what has happened in the past, it is possible to heal and become happy and whole.

He goes back to her after his grand so each at the awards ceremony. But it seemed like the way he got her back was to easy. And the end seemed left open for more books. Inya got away with too much. Karma should have stepped in.

By Oliver Twisted For fans of bizarro independent filmmaking, Jerry Williams is goldmine. His ultra low to zero-budget films have been entertaining audiences for years, and this "comic book" encapsulates the charm and tongue-in-cheek campiness of his work. Consider this a a primer, your playbill for the weird and wonderfull universe of perverse delights that await you in the mind of Kentucky's greatest cult film maker!

There is no backstory no character development. Sierra was a special type of grimy..... I actually cheered with thoughts of her being dead... She wasn't a very nice person and she treated people like her very own personal ATM. The story could have been awesome if the writer took more time to develop the characters. It left me feeling cheated--why is sierra so messy? I don't think the story was long enough, it felt somewhat rushed.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Nothing was clear about this Hoodrat's vision! By Ms. Read I thought this was a decent read for a short story. It had your typical hood rat plot about a female who was willing to screw over any and everybody for a come up or quick buck. But what goes around comes around and this chick got a cold dose of reality at the end.The story itself had a steady pace with a few twists and turns, some were predictable and some were not. I really wish the story was longer because it had alot to offer. It also would have been better if the other characters spoke from their point of view more. Overall I rate this a 3.5

Edward Scissorhands By Jessica I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*some spoilers*"Edward Scissorhands" was one of my favorite movies so I was really excited to check out this comic. I always thought it was incredibly sad that Edwards never got the girl in the movie. The comic does flash on that a few times, lending it a sad feel at times. Edward and his friends are seeking out the help of a famous plastic surgeon to hopefully get Edward some hands. While the woman turns out to be insane and no real help at all, Edward learns that he's OK the way he is and just how valuable his friends are.I think it was really cute even though it was a little sad. I look forward to getting a copy of the first volume, which I hadn't even known existed before I read this.4 stars.

Madero eARC provided by publisher via Netgalley in exchange of honest and unbiased reviewAfter cleaning and fixing the castle with the help of his new friends, Edward becomes quite glued to the marvelous TV. Here he discovers of a Doctor April Wells that fixes people who have physical difficulties, things no other doctors would be able to fix. After much insisting from his part, Dr. Wells gets interested in Edward and asks to have him on her show, but what he and co. don't suspect is that this doctor is more than what meets the eye at first glance.Like I mentioned in my review of the first Edward Scissorhands volume, I love this comic mainly for the art. It is so weird and pops right out of the page in a very Tim Burton-esque style. Full of colorful blocks, designs, and past characters we all love, even if you don't like the story, you'll probably love the whole art of it.In this second volume we're able to see how many side and main characters from the previous volume get accustomed to Edward and his hands, creating friendships that are very benefitial to both. And what I loved the most at the end was that we get more backstory on Kim and Edward after she gets married, how it it affected her own family, and how kind Edward was to tell her she had a family to get back to, that he loved her (squeal!) and many more things you'll be able to read here. It was so sweet and interesting to know about these things that we wouldn't have known after the movie. Just a few little what-ifs.Dr. Wells was one creepy character. A very manipulative, crazy, fame crazy, money hungry, weird witchy person. I didn't like her at all, but her character served well to emphasize on Meg that how you look isn't the most important trait a person can posses. Plus her wrong-doings got Meg and Edward closer yet (yay).Overall, it was an easy and enjoyable read, and I'm a complete fan of these. I can't wait for the third one!Rating: 4 starsReview by Jennifer Madero

By Wayne A McCoy 'Edward Scissorhands Volume 2: Whole Again' by Kate Leth and art by Drew Rausch continues the adventure of Megs and Edward. Megs is the grandaughter of Kim from the movie. After the events of the last volume, the townspeople have come together to help spruce up Edward's castle. New light fixtures and furniture and a new tv with a kevlar plated remote. Edward doesn't know what to think of tv, but he is intrigued by a reality tv show called Get Wells, where a tv host helps people transform their lives. Edward sees it as a chance to have normal hands, but Megs has misgivings. Perhaps Megs is right to have misgivings.Edward is just as good a character as he ever is, with his lost look and his memories of the past. Megs mother finds her mother Kim's diary. That has repercussions for her relationship with Edward. The theme of being okay with yourself are strong here. The art by Drew Rausch is detailed, and he throws little easter eggs into his drawings for the discerning viewer. I think I liked the first volume a bit better, but this one isn't bad at all.I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Juan's budding romance with Magi Gregori is brought to a sudden halt when Stan, Gregori's childhood friend and former lover, arrives unexpectedly at the ranch. Their romance is threatened completely when Stan makes it clear that he wants Juan gone and is not above using any means necessary to make sure it happens. Caught in the middle, Gregori must choose: the old flame or the promise of a new fire. This book is not stand alone and must be read as part of the Sumeria's Sons series.

Book Review by PizzyGirl By PrismBookAlliance 5 of 5 StarsFor original review see The Prism Book Alliance Blog onlineThese short stories about Gregori and Juan are perfectly executed. They are just long enough to give tons of information but short enough not to take away from the purpose of the series.Starting Fires takes place during the action of Dreams of the Forgotten. This story answered a few of the questions that were left hanging in book 3. We learned more about Gregori and his connection to Stan. We get a fantastic look into Juan and Gregori’s relationship and things move to the next (well probably more than just the next) level. We also learned so much more about Gregori, his nature, his beliefs, his emotions, his destiny. And OMG it was fantastic. His connection to Juan was steamy and intense and I cannot wait to get more from these men. I need to know who will be the third to complete their triad!

Angst builds up between the two's budding relationship when an old flame moves in on Gregori. Good angst, tension, and action all around. Strong and powerful writing, and like the title says..there is fire between these two. Loved it!

What's to Love: Memetic is truly an event comic, and a wholly unique take on the disaster genre. Much like his work on The Woods, writer James Tynion IV-with the help of fantastic newcomer Eryk Donovan (The House in the Wall)-brings horror to a whole new generation of fans of J-horror films like Uzumaki and The Ring. Plus, Memetic was nominated for the GLAAD Award for Outstanding Comic! What It Is: A meme is an idea that starts with an individual, and then virally spreads to multiple persons and potentially entire societies. Richard Dawkins suggests a meme's success comes from its effectiveness to the host, but history shows that destructive memes can spread just as rapidly through society. Memetic shows the progression of a weaponized meme that leads to the utter annihilation of the human race within 72 hours. The root of this apocalypse is a single image on the internet, a "meme" in the popular sense. A meme that changes everything. Collects the complete three-issue miniseries.

Memetic, by James Tynion IV

About the Author James Tynion IV got his start in the pages of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s acclaimed run on Batman at DC Comics in early 2012, where he co-wrote the backup stories for the best-selling Court of Owls and Death of the Family storylines. He has since written stories for Detective Comics, as well as writing the ongoing series Talon, and Red Hood and the Outlaws. He lives and writes in New York City, and is consistently amazed that people are actually letting him work on comic books professionally. He alternates between taking in the most grisly horror media he can get his hands on, and trying not to get choked up while listening to musical theater soundtracks. You can find him on Twitter @JamesTheFourth, or on his Tumblr. Michael Dialynas is an Athens, Greece based artist who has illustrated the worlds of AMALA'S BLADE, SPERA, SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN and currently THE WOODS for Boom! Studios.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. "Memetic" is a genius, twisted apocalyptic tale that is not to be missed. By PreciousPaula "Memetic" is one of the all time greatest graphic novels ever published. I could literally go on for hours about the genius in this book, yet I will not. I'll keep it concise. To keep the mystery alive (seriously, go into this book with as little knowledge of it as possible, you'll thank me), I won't go into story details except to say that a single meme brings about the destruction of mankind. The apocalypse. I know this premise sounds like it could be silly and stupid, but I promise you it isn't. The reason behind what is happening is brilliant. This was originally published as a three-issue mini series, so the story has a beginning, middle, and end.The work done by James Tynion IV and Erik Donovan cannot be overstated. They are brilliant, and they work together wonderfully. In fact, they just released another 3 part mini-series called "Cognetic" which is sort of a spiritual sequel to "Memetic". It is also outstanding.Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. I bet you'll be happy that you did.
