By Sarah Steele Labeled Chappell's break out novel and now I know why! Fans who have followed Charlie, Thomas, and Harley Ponyboy through past adventures should prepare for the most gripping, dangerous, and heart thumping ride yet. In addition to a Navajo Nation Mystery this is an intense western thriller like nothing I've ever read before and very likely to gain Chappell an entire new legion of fans. Though many compare Chappell to Tony HIllerman he has always been his own writer and this book, his best yet, shatters any mold. How does one of Mexico's bloodiest predators come to stalk the innocents of the Navajo Reservation? Is he the man who will finally prove too much for Charlie, Thomas and Harley? I won't give any spoilers but I can tell you I held my breath for all three at different points in this great story. The true western detail is something anyone who loves Larry McMurtry's early novels will appreciate but it's Michael Crighten fans who will dig into the sheer intensity. I could barely flip the pages fast enough at some points and yet I was afraid to for fear of what would come! This is all thriller and the mystery comes not in a "whodunnit" type way but in a "what the heck will happen next ??!!" way. There are times you'll want to cry, apply the brakes and in one memorable moment cheer!! I'm only sorry it's over, until the next mystery unfolds!

11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Read This Book! By Margaret Folks, this book is one of the great books about Navajo people. I lived amongst and worked for Navajo people for 25+ years. I have read every Tony Hillerman book and every book about Navajo people. Only R. Allen Chappell does not sacrifice the way Navajo people are for the plot. While I missed the women in his series in this book, this story is about the journey of three childhood friends who are now men. This story is about the determination and dogged way Navajo men go after someone or something with great intelligence and courage. And I adore the twist at the end of the story, which stunned me, yet made so much sense. I enjoy this series so very much and this book is the best by far. Chappell is going to be one those authors that will become part of the American canon. I cannot wait for the next book.

This was my favorite of his stories, taking the reader up red stone canyons and down deep rutted roads. Love the characters, settings and the story he weaves. I recommend this book to any fans of Western s or Southwest books. You won't be disappointed.A special thanks to the author for supplying this review copy of this book.

Her message of positive living and respect for self and others will resonate with many. She writes from experience and the wisdom of maturity, whereby one can easily differentiate the important from the unimportant--what should be carried forward in life and what should be left behind. She advocates an approach to life that encourages a healthy outlook that allows enjoyment of each day. Her words of support speak to universal circumstances that must be experienced, evaluated, and learned from. She enlightens and uplifts, and provides the reader with words to live by no matter what they are confronting in their lives and at what stage. And in the final analysis, it is God and love that never fail.

As I read it, I felt like I was conversing with a beloved mentor, or maybe my favorite aunt, and being encouraged to be the best self I could be. She shows the way to be whole, a Godly, passionate, vibrant fulfilled and fulfilling woman in a world that is so very fragmented and broken.

A new memoir from Sunday Times and New York Times best-selling author Cathy Glass.

When Cathy receives a call about a terminally ill widower terrified of leaving his son all alone in the world, she is wracked with sadness and indecision. Can she risk exposing her own young children to a little boy on the brink of bereavement?

Eight-year-old Michael is part of a family of two, but with his beloved father given only months to live and his mother having died when he was a toddler, he could soon become an orphan. Will Cathy's own young family be able to handle a child in mourning?

To Cathy's surprise, her children insist that this boy deserves to be as happy as they are, prompting Cathy to welcome Michael into her home. A cheerful and carefree new member of the family, Michael devotedly prays every night, believing that when the time is right, angels will come and take his Daddy to be with his Mummy in heaven.

However, incredibly, in the weeks that pass, the bond between Cathy's family, Michael and his kind and loving father, Patrick, grows. Even more promising, Patrick is looking healthier than he's done in weeks.

But just as they are settling into a routine of blissful normality, an unexpected and disastrous event shatters the happy group, shaking Cathy to the core. Cathy can only hope that her family and Michael's admirable faith will keep him strong enough to rebuild his life.

I was already in tears in the first chapter and more so by the and. A fantastic story, heartwrenching at times but so warm and loving. As with all of Cathys books you get to know the characters and feel so invloved. It was a pleasure to read of a wonderful boy like Michael and his thoughtful loving father Patrick. I am so glad that Cathy and her family got to know and love them and in turn that they did the same. A truly wonderful book.I would wholeheartedly recommend this and ALL of the books written by Cathy Glass and cannot wait for the next one to be released.Well done Cathy and thank you to you and your children. x

Eight-year-old, Michael, had already lost his mother when he was just a toddler so and he and his beloved Dad, Patrick, have been a two family home since that time and they have a bond like no other. When Patrick ends up in hospital dying from cancer, Cathy takes in Michael and worries that her own children may be affected by the gloomy circumstances but much to everyone's surprise her own children take to Michael like a brother. However, when Patrick dies, things change quickly and it wasn't what I was expecting. Excellent novel that everyone should read!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Another good book by Cathy Glass but... By K. Rolland I truly love all of Cathy Glass' books, but this one has a different twist in that Cathy starts to fall in love with the dying father of her foster son, Michael. The book is well-written and takes you on a very sad journey of a little boy who lost his mother at a young age and now is losing his father. Cathy's optimism turns into despair as his father quickly loses strength and then his life. I did not rate this with five stars since, after reading about four of Cathy's books, I see a distinct trend that may get tiresome for some readers in that she is frequently telling us about getting dinner, putting the kids to bed, reading to them, taking them to school, etc. All these little details of life, while we know they go on for anyone taking care of younger children, become a bit boring after reading about them time and again throughout each chapter. However, Cathy definitely has a lot to say otherwise and her stories are vivid and so touching.

Armed with only a journal and a promise, soldier Ian Carlisle returns home to fulfill his friend’s dying wish: to find the man’s daughter and read her his journal, one page at a time. The woman he finds in River Rock, Missouri, is just as warmhearted, artistic, and feisty as her father described. Ian had fallen in love with Charlee McKinley before he even met her, but he has no idea if she’ll ever return his feelings.

Charlee loved her father—but she didn’t like him very much. Regimental and strict, Major Mack never approved of his daughter’s choices. So when a down-on-his-luck soldier arrives on Charlee’s doorstep, she’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, but not her heart. It isn’t until he starts reading to her that the beautiful, touching words begin to unlock something deep inside. But when Ian reveals a secret that shakes Charlee to her core, will she close herself off to love out of fear?

It is the first book in a new series by Heather Burch about a young man recently discharged from the Army and a young woman running an artist's retreat. These two have more in common than either of them know.Ian, fresh out the military, has one goal. Find his commander's daughter Charlee and give her the journal her father wrote. A journal that she has no idea about. Charles and her father have not been close for a long time. Seemingly they have nothing in common and not much left of a connection since Charlee's mother died when Charlee was 12. With two older brothers and one younger brother, Charlee took over the maternal role and her mother's dream of starting an artist's retreat. One year after her father died in Afghanistan, Ian shows up and is hired as a handyman on the property. Ian fell in love with Charlee from afar after spending so much time with her father. Charlee's father's final wish is that Ian helps Charlee move on and stop running. As the two get closer, Ian struggles with how to reveal how he really knows Charlee. Charlee, having been burned before, doesn't want to get close to Ian but finds it difficult. With a cast of quirky side characters, the slow burning relationship between Ian and Charlee opens up. When secrets are revealed and relationships of all kinds tested, do they really know each other and can either stop running? This book was a slow build. It took me a while to find myself able to connect with Ian or Charlee. Once they started opening up, especially with the help of the artists, Ian and Charlee became more complex and interesting and I was better able to understand and sympathize with them. This is more of a relationship building story than an overt love story as there is really no steam involved. The twist with Charlee towards the end was really good though. I didn't see it coming and the story really picked up after that. With an interesting storyline, sweet excerpts from the journal, and both characters' emotional growth, this was a good story.Arc provided by publisher via Netgalley for honest review.

The story was so engaging that it stuck with me for several days once I finally closed the cover. The characters were multi-dimensional and the supporting cast of characters kept the story interesting. I laughed, I cried, I sighed. This story was comfort food for the soul! Well done!

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Love this story! By JLynnG Charlee McKinley has dedicated her life to fulfilling her mother’s dream. Ian Carlisle made a promise to a dying soldier, one he’s determined to keep. Through Ian, Charlee learns the father she lost isn’t the man she knew at all. But when Ian starts chipping at her heart, Charlee’s determined to keep him out.Along the Broken Road introduces the McKinleys, a family who knows the meaning of sacrifice, and the bittersweet lessons of honor, loss, and duty. Heather Burch’s gift for digging deep and touching emotions shines through in this love story set in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri with a cast of quirky characters that are sure to touch your heart.

A dying young girl inherits ancient magical powers. When Iscariot, a rebellious magician in an age-old order, secretly bestows powers upon Carson, a dying young girl, he throws generations of magical tradition into chaos. As Carson struggles with not only her new powers, but with returning to life after years of sickness—schoolmates who don’t remember her, a mother who has hidden her spiraling depression —she discovers that Iscariot’s intentions might not have been as altruistic as it first appeared. Burdened with magic she doesn’t understand and pursued by representatives of the order who seek to rebalance their broken system of power, Carson must find a way to shed the weight of the past and create a future that is hers and hers alone. From groundbreaking writer-illustrator S.M. Vidaurri (Iron: Or, the War After, Jim Henson's Storyteller Witches) comes a brutal and beautiful coming-of-age fable that combines the melancholy lyricism of The Alchemist with the youthful honesty of Fault in our Stars. Brought to life in stunning watercolor, Iscariot explores the wonder and danger of having the power to forge your own destiny.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful artwork, vague story By HBish First, this is an absolute bargain for what you get: 160 beautiful, full-color pages in a hardcover edition. This is something I would keep on a table in my house since it's just so beautiful--even the cover has lovely gold foil accents. The artwork is what really sold me on this graphic novel; Vidaurri's style is intricate, colorful, and complements the story very well. I know I will be flipping through again and again to revisit my favorite panels. In terms of the story, I was quite honestly a little confused. I am going to reread to try to understand it better, but some of the plot points were a bit too vague for me to understand (and this is coming from a lit major). I didn't feel that the story was remarkable in any way, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. The little plot summary isn't really how I would have summarized the story--it makes it seem like the focus is more on Carson and her powers, but I felt it was more about Iscariot and his. I also thought before purchasing this that it was geared toward young readers (like teens), but I wouldn't buy this for any kids I know, only because I'm not sure they'd understand it. Overall, the book is beautiful and the illustrations are where it truly shines. I'm glad I bought it, and I'm looking forward to reading it again and understanding it a little better!

Christmas is the season most difficult to grasp and understand in all its spiritual richness. The sentimentality and commercialism that dominate the season tend to obscure the profound mystery at its heart: the Incarnation. God with Us provides the perfect way to slow down and reconnect with the liturgical and sacramental traditions that illuminate the meaning of Christmas and the Incarnation. In daily meditations for the complete seasons of Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany, the contributors offer a tapestry of reflection, Scripture, prayer, and history. God with Us—which has sold more than 25,000 copies in its original, illustrated, $30 edition—will make anyone’s journey to the stable in Bethlehem and the child in the manger unforgettable. This new “Reader’s Edition” is designed to make the book more affordable, able to reach an even wider cross-section of readers.

If you are looking for a way to deepen, renew, or discover for the first time the profound meaning of this time of year in a way that strengthens your faith, this book is for you. I would highly recommend it.—Pastor Janet Hunt

Every year the holiday season comes earlier. Coffee cups, mall Santas, ornaments, Christmas music and grocery-store-eggnog all proclaim the yuletide cheer as the retail industrial complex screams, “Happy Holidays!” The Christian tradition has its own way of preparing for the holidays: Advent (beginning this year on November 29). More than just a time for marking the shopping days before Christmas, Advent is about preparing your heart to enter fully into the mystery of God’s coming to us in the Incarnation of Christ. If you are familiar with any of these authors, you know how deeply they have reflected on the spiritual life and the wealth of insights they have for waiting and watching well.  This is really a beautiful book and one of my ‘holiday favorites.’  I read a library copy several years ago and am happy to delve back into it for this season. Five stars, for sure. Now is the time to start thinking about how to wait well. Paraclete Press has several devotional resources designed to help us enter into the seasons of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. God With Us: Reader’s Edition of a paperback version of one of my favorites. Like its companion volume God for Us (which walks through Lent and Easter), it brings together a group of writers from across the Christian tradition (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant–in both Evangelical and Mainline), under the editorial gaze of Greg Pennoyer and Gregory Wolfe (from Image Journal). Eugene Peterson writes the introduction and four authors each write a weeks' worth of devotions for each day of Advent. The late Richard John Neuhaus provided the devotions for week one. Poets Scott Cairns and Lucy Shaw write the devotions for weeks two and three, respectively. Memoirist Kathleen Norris’s offerings make up week four, leading up to Christmas while Emilie Griffin reflects on the special days between Christmas and the feast of Epiphany. Punctuating each section is Beth Bevis‘s brief histories share the historical context of the church’s practice of the season and various feast days.—James Matichuk

This is a beautiful Advent devotional book in its 4th printing. This quote is from the preface by the author "Christmas is the feast of the Incarnation, which is the mystery of God with us in the flesh. When we cut through the sentiment and marketing to the spiritual riches of Christmas , we recover not only a sense of who God is, but also who we are as human beings." I like the format of the book with the unpacking of the scriptures for the four weeks of Advent followed by Christmas to Epiphany. The history of the feast days by Beth Davis was very informational and I learned a lot about each of the 12 days of Christmas has history and has a specific meaning and purpose. I like the variety of authors from Richard Neuhaus to Kathleen Norris. I did not like that the scripture readings were cited at the beginning of each chapter and not included for convenient reading. I guess I'm just showing laziness, maybe this is made to make the average reader seek out their bible for the readings. Advent is a special time for the church and for me personally. We are an incarnational people where the gift of ourselves is important for the season because of God's gift of himself not just on the cross but by the stable manger. This quote from God with Us "Christmas is about incarnation, and incarnation is God’s becoming what he is not, in order that we might become what he is. Thus does God reveal himself" is a powerful affirmation of our humanity. I would recommend this book to deepen your experience of this spiritual season. From the book is the best recommendation "As this season of preparation continues, Holy God who is with us, may we lean into every moment of our days to redeem the time, to make the most of our every moment."—Patricia McKenna

About the Author Editor Greg Pennoyer is president of The Humanitas Group, which manages creative endeavors designed to enrich our understanding of what it means to be human. He is cofounder of the Centre for Cultural Renewal, member of the Board of Directors for Image Journal, and co-editor with Gregory Wolfe of God for Us: Rediscovering the Meaning of Lent and Easter.

Murphy Every Christmas my wife and I think, "O my, we've done it again - Christmas is here and we've allowed the busy-ness of the season to keep us from preparing our hearts and our home for the coming of the Christ child." We started using this book at the recommendation of a friend and whole-heartedly recommend it to you. We are being prepared this Advent and this book has much to do with it. The paintings, Scripture verses, discussions and prayers have been a great help to us and those in our small group as well.

I was experiencing that familiar feeling of "missing" Christmas again this year. I found it again in this book. It has inspired me to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas for the first time. The readings are timely, thought provoking, prayer inspiring, and quite simply BEAUTIFUL! I'm already looking for copies to give as gifts for next year. I hope the authors are planning on a similiar collection for Lent and Easter. I would order it sight unseen.

As promised, the book has beautiful reproductions of art to go with each daily reading during Advent. There are also scripture passages each day and a short reflection written by one of the six contributors. Information and reflections on feast days are included, and I really like the fact that the book continues until Epiphany. I've been able to keep up so far and have been challenged and encouraged by the readings to remember Jesus in the midst of what can be a very distracting time of year. This book will make a great gift for my friends and family for next year's Advent season.

It was September, and humorist Susan Konig had just put her youngest child on the school bus with his brother and sister and thought, "Wow, my life is really going to change now. All three kids in school full-time. For the first time in a decade I'll have my days to myself! I'll write another book, get to the gym four times a week, run for political office, save the baby seals . . ." Almost immediately, she started throwing up. Around the clock. She knew the drill. She was definitely pregnant . . . with her fourth child . . . and about to turn forty-three. Time to break out the big pants again. While Susan thought that the next chapter of her and her husband's lives involved making plans for their impending child-free, swinging middle-aged-dom, instead she's back to two A.M. feedings. Meanwhile her tween daughter is receiving her first phone calls from . . . boys! And in between this twelve-year-old and the newborn are two rambunctious sons, eight and five. So it's training wheels and training bras; first dance, last diaper; Miss Clairol and Ben & Jerry. Will Susan ever get back into shape? And what shape was that, exactly? Will she be the oldest mom at preschool in a few years? Will she survive that long? And will she and her husband cope with a national radio show that brings their disorganized household to the whole country? Acclaimed humorist Susan Konig follows her successful debut, Why Animals Sleep So Close to the Road (and Other Lies I Tell My Children), with this charming, hilarious, and realistic account of being a mom. After all, it's a big job---and it requires big pants.

I Wear the Maternity Pants in This Family, by Susan Konig

From Publishers Weekly In this witty collection of motherhood tales, Konig (Why Animals Sleep So Close to the Road) recalls waving good-bye to her third child as he got on his first school bus. After three children, she was looking forward to some daytime peace and quiet—only she felt an all-too-familiar surge of nausea. At the suburban ob-gyn's office, the way they stared at her, you'd think Grandma Moses had walked in, so she retreated to her old city doctor, who acted like pregnant-over-40 was no big deal. Her husband and daughter and two sons cheerfully welcomed the newest family member—after all, there's always room for another baby—kind of like Jell-O. In 45 vignettes, Konig shares episodes of family life—singing to baby, sibling rivalry, Little League ups and downs. Such familiar turf is often more poignant than funny, although when she reaches deeper into her family's idiosyncrasies, she can be hilarious. Her husband, for instance, is an amusingly obsessive neighborhood wood scavenger; still, it took them so long to hook up their wood stove properly that their baby smelled like a campfire. Some sketches, like the one where Konig's figuring out her sons' Tamagotchi virtual pets, are surprisingly dated. But in the great tradition of Erma Bombeck, Konig makes it okay to be a little retro. About the Author Susan began her career schlepping shopping bags for Washington Post fashion editor Nina Hyde. Once she learned to type (a skill she lied about to get the job), she was put to work writing features for the paper's Style section. She moved on to Seventeen magazine in the big 80's as a fashion, beauty and trends editor. (Think shoulder pads, mousse and helicopter earrings.) In the nineties, her twice weekly column for the New York Post delighted millions...and irritated dozens. Her articles and essays have appeared in many national publications including Ladies' Home Journal, Travel & Leisure, First for Women and Parade. Her short fiction was published in Barbie magazine, including the tear-jerker "Midge's Wedding." Susan was co-host of the popular Speak Now...with Dave and Susan Konig on Sirius Satellite radio. The motherhood columnist and her Emmy Award-winning comedian husband interviewed celebrities, athletes and authors for three hours a day entertaining loyal listeners across the country and internationally. Her first book Why Animals Sleep So Close to the Road (and Other Lies I Tell My Children) was called "brilliant, witty, and downright Bombeckian" by USA Today. Parade Magazine says of third book Teenagers & Toddlers Are Trying to Kill Me!: "Surviving parenthood is never so funny as when Susan Konig tells tales of the joyful chaos that is life with her four children." Parade Magazine says of Teenagers & Toddlers Are Trying to Kill Me!: "Surviving parenthood is never so funny as when Susan Konig tells tales of the joyful chaos that is life with her four children."

The first one was "Why Animals Sleep so Close to the Road (And Other Lies I Tell My Children"), a book I enjoyed so much I gave away at least twenty copies to friends and clients. The new book is equally good - a light, breezy, funny, read about life if you're a suburban lady journalist, 40 something, with a comedian-entertainer husband, three children, and #4 on the way.Like most humor books, this is a rapid read, with 205 pages divided into 44 chapters (and epilogue). Some of the chapters are an absolute scream, like (my personal favorite) the 36 hour trip to the "pampering spa" with just the hubbie..., or the leaking ceiling in the children's bedroom....All great fun. I'll be getting another box of these to give away!

If you are looking for a good read centered around "the truth" behind parenting..........this is it! Susan Konig tells it like it is, and this forty-something mother of 8 found it the perfect way to end the summer!!

By Cardenuto2 I saw this at my local library a few years ago, and I remember laughing so hard several times that I dropped the book. Her stories are very funny, but the motherhood woes don't bash husbands or family life the way some humor books tend to do. She made me see the funny side of young kids' endless antics and mischief, and made me appreciate how great it is to be a mom. Back then my third child was a newborn, and I could relate to the motherhood experiences. Now I'm pregnant with my fourth, and my older three are all self-sufficient. I keep thinking about Susan having her fourth with 3 older kids, and finally I had to find it on amazon so I can read it again! (I've moved away from the library where I found it.) I cannot wait to get this book, and have it on hand for times when I really need to put things in perspective!

By Amazon Customer This is a great resource for teachers who do international pen pal projects. This book highlights similarities and differences between Chicagoland kids and kids from Cologne, Germany, but these letter/poems could be used as samples for any international or even within-country pen pal project. The poems are interesting, quirky, funny, and feature high level vocabulary and thinking - good for kids who can write, probably 3rd through 6th graders. Hopefully teachers will even think about assembling their own pen pals book using this one as a sample. This book is also fun for young German-learners, and children who will be visiting Germany. There are a lot of plays on words for the translations - for instance, the literal translation for the German word for skyscraper IS sky scratcher! And anyone, teacher or child, who visits Chicago or Cologne, will feel a little bit more at home in either place for having read this.

About the Author Deborah Bladon has never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She's a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you can often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan is definitely her second home. She cherishes her family and believes that each day is a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.

By Chirpycherub Deborah Bladon leaves me salivating and asking myself this question - how does she do it? how does she make me fly through a story and then leave me with small tid-bits of ever so intriguing new stories. Bladon's characters crest relations trials - and with some miscommunication and mix ups it all comes to a head in this installment of the series.I loved it, I'm not sure for me - that Deborah could write a bad story... the way she writes is engaging and addictive, I find myself lost and times just stands still as I fly through the words, but finish never disappointed. And lastly, Deborah has this rare gift for fans - she gives little tid-bits of new works - I love this and her generosity to fans in giving free novellas to fans to round off various characters.Loved Ember - thank you!!!!

By An Avid Reader Dane is fully committed to Bridget but unfortunately a poor communicator. She seemingly has to pull every bit of information about his family and friends out of him. It's a bit antithetical to his straightforward demeanor as a firefighter as we've seen in previous parts to the series, but he eventually faces his demons and shares more of his background with Bridget. This is a story about family, loyalty, and forgiveness. The characters are genuine and the emotions are real. It's a tale of romance and devotion that will ultimately warm your heart as you travel a troubled path with Dane and Bridget.

I have to confess I love Deborah Bladon's novels and her writing style. They are subtle but strong in feelings with the right dose of thrill and hot relationships. I enjoyed Ember as much as all the novels of this author. I am already looking forward to the coming Rise series. All of you romantic souls, please give yourselves the opportunity to read an extraordinary and beautiful love story in Ember.

Fortunately, Ms. Jenkins leaves the ending wide open to continue the story. Some fun twists and turns, and not nearly as dark as some of the other Pam books. Can't wait for the next one!

I know everything comes to an end eventually, but I hope it doesn't happen to Pam for a long time. Ms. Jenkins just has a wonderful knack of getting the reader so involved with her characters you're pulled into the story and become one of the members of Pam's incredibly complicated family. The surprises keep coming and the ending was again the kind Ms. Jenkins is so good at - surprise, surprise, surprise. I can't wait until number 11 comes along!Thank you so much, Suzanne J. for keeping me engrossed in my reading and anticipation of your next tome.

This like the rest was full of surprises, twist and turns and some real heartbreak. I tried to read slowly, so I would have some reading left for my train ride on Monday morning, but I could not stop reading. I had to see how it ended and of course now I wait for Book # 11 (which I hope is sooner rather than later !

Having read the first book and loved it, I could hardly wait to start reading Where Dreams Go. When the wagon train reached the final destination of Oregon, homesteads started up, farms were planted, cabins built and small towns became larger. I loved that St. Louis, the Wagonmaster, decided to retire to a homestead and becomes sort of the heart and soul of the new-found community. Whether it is to stop by for a cup of coffee or stand by when a baby is born, he is there. Martha and Amos, along with their three girls, had traveled with the wagon train and set up homes. Amy marries Matt and the other sisters leave the area for work and educations. It was an adventure to explore the mountains and rivers along with the residents of Oregon. I had tears over the arrival of Adam and how he loved the families. I enjoyed many smiles and chuckles throughout the book as the author wrote about various situations Martha and her family endured. I won't spoil the story for you, but you will certainly enjoy the moments with Matt as he welcomes a baby into his life.I was fortunate to get a copy of the early release and thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read such a great book.

I am comfortabe reading her sexual play as well as the rest of the story artfully historic. i care about her characters and am eager to read more of their lives in yet to be published novels.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I enjoyed following the group of people that Rain picked to ... By John Phillips I enjoyed following the group of people that Rain picked to follow in the first of her Oregon Historical novels, "Round The Bend," about the wagon train trip west from Missouri to Oregon, and this one picks up some of those same people. This story does stand on its own but do try to read the first book in the series ahead of this one as you will then "know" the characters better, She has crafted a novel that almost makes the characters feel like friends of mine so that I have a personal interest in their lives.Adam and Martha are the main characters in this story but others from the trip west are also included. I am reluctant to say much because there are some interesting twists that you should come upon yourself, but the pace is definitely fast enough that you find it hard to put the book down while reading. The conclusion does leave the reader with a comfortable feeling. And it also leaves you looking forward to the release of the third book in this historical series, due out this fall.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. My oh my I love this book By thebybeeclan Catching Caytie. My oh my I love this book. I first started reading Cindy Anderson's works a few years ago and fell in love right then and there with Fair Catch. I couldn't put the book down to even make dinner. It was that good. Catching Caytie had me ignoring every body around me until I finished it. She's a force to be reckoned with. Her characters are spot on and the humor is fantastic. She sets her scenes very well and catches you in the first pages of her books. There is something so wonderful about being able to completely loose yourself in a book that you don't even realize you are turning pages until you get to the end of the book and pout because you wished you could have kept going. However, this just makes you greedy for more and anticipate her next publications. Very few authors have this kind of effect on me, but Mrs. Anderson is absolutely one of them. I love how realistic her characters are in her books and Catching Caytie doesn't disappoint in this area. Caytie and Jace have real flaws and realistic reactions to situations that come up in the story. It's why I love her works. She is completely realistic about life, love, and weak moments of character. Don't we all have these in our own lives? Her books are worth the small tuppence that you pay and ones that are in my read over and over list. Nice work Cindy Roland Anderson!!!!!

I now have a pair of cute cowboy (cowgirl?) boots on my Pinterest Board wish list! I can't wait to read about more Snow Valley characters!

Fortunately, this wasn't one of them!I can always count on this delightful author to write a great story and this one certainly didn't disappoint! Yay! Thank you for rescuing me from the land of monotony and juvenile writing! As usual, her books are romantic, easy to read, captivate my attention, and the storyline flows so smoothly it's hard to put it down. The characters are well developed and the plot moves along smoothly. As long as she keeps writing, I'll keep reading because, so far, I haven't been disappointed and I heartily (no pun intended) recommend any of her books -certainly this one is no exception! I feel confident that readers will very much enjoy this book. I give it 5 stars.
