A new memoir from Sunday Times and New York Times best-selling author Cathy Glass.

When Cathy receives a call about a terminally ill widower terrified of leaving his son all alone in the world, she is wracked with sadness and indecision. Can she risk exposing her own young children to a little boy on the brink of bereavement?

Eight-year-old Michael is part of a family of two, but with his beloved father given only months to live and his mother having died when he was a toddler, he could soon become an orphan. Will Cathy's own young family be able to handle a child in mourning?

To Cathy's surprise, her children insist that this boy deserves to be as happy as they are, prompting Cathy to welcome Michael into her home. A cheerful and carefree new member of the family, Michael devotedly prays every night, believing that when the time is right, angels will come and take his Daddy to be with his Mummy in heaven.

However, incredibly, in the weeks that pass, the bond between Cathy's family, Michael and his kind and loving father, Patrick, grows. Even more promising, Patrick is looking healthier than he's done in weeks.

But just as they are settling into a routine of blissful normality, an unexpected and disastrous event shatters the happy group, shaking Cathy to the core. Cathy can only hope that her family and Michael's admirable faith will keep him strong enough to rebuild his life.

I was already in tears in the first chapter and more so by the and. A fantastic story, heartwrenching at times but so warm and loving. As with all of Cathys books you get to know the characters and feel so invloved. It was a pleasure to read of a wonderful boy like Michael and his thoughtful loving father Patrick. I am so glad that Cathy and her family got to know and love them and in turn that they did the same. A truly wonderful book.I would wholeheartedly recommend this and ALL of the books written by Cathy Glass and cannot wait for the next one to be released.Well done Cathy and thank you to you and your children. x

Eight-year-old, Michael, had already lost his mother when he was just a toddler so and he and his beloved Dad, Patrick, have been a two family home since that time and they have a bond like no other. When Patrick ends up in hospital dying from cancer, Cathy takes in Michael and worries that her own children may be affected by the gloomy circumstances but much to everyone's surprise her own children take to Michael like a brother. However, when Patrick dies, things change quickly and it wasn't what I was expecting. Excellent novel that everyone should read!

Rolland I truly love all of Cathy Glass' books, but this one has a different twist in that Cathy starts to fall in love with the dying father of her foster son, Michael. The book is well-written and takes you on a very sad journey of a little boy who lost his mother at a young age and now is losing his father. Cathy's optimism turns into despair as his father quickly loses strength and then his life. I did not rate this with five stars since, after reading about four of Cathy's books, I see a distinct trend that may get tiresome for some readers in that she is frequently telling us about getting dinner, putting the kids to bed, reading to them, taking them to school, etc. All these little details of life, while we know they go on for anyone taking care of younger children, become a bit boring after reading about them time and again throughout each chapter. However, Cathy definitely has a lot to say otherwise and her stories are vivid and so touching.
