Sometimes you have to take a step out of your comfort zone if you want to start living again. Kangee is used to solitude. He’s lived like a hermit for the past seven years after finding out the hard way that shifters shouldn’t mix with humans. He has no intentions to change that, but he hadn’t counted on a bratty hard-headed human slithering into his life and pushing Kangee outside his comfort zone. Jase knows what he wants, and he wants Kangee, even if the man looks like he’d rather run the other way every time he sees Jase. He throws himself at Kangee until the man finally breaks down, but what should have been a summer fling quickly shifts into something more. Kangee has to hide his raven half from Jase because he knows the man would freak out if he found out about it, but when Jase is attacked by a bear Kangee’s raven half reacts, exposing Kangee’s secret to the man he’s starting to fall for. Will Jase run, or will he give Kangee a chance? Will what they have survive the revelation, or will it disappear along with the summer heat? 36,107 words. Kangee was probably meant to be vulnerable and attractive but turned out brooding and fairly childish in his mood swings. It didn't help that the author left out some important moments when the leads were supposed to understand each other better and learn to trust each other and condensed them in a few descriptive words instead.

He doesn't like having to deal with humans in any way, even doing the groceries, but with more and more people moving into his home area all the time, it was getting harder to keep his place isolated. It was while he is getting some much needed groceries that he is spotted by Jase, a human with his own mission. Okay, Jase's mission is to go out camping a find a bear, but when he sees Kangee he can't stop drooling and suddenly, the bear didn't seem that important. Unfortunately Kangee wasn't overly impressed with Jase.Jase has a big mouth, and he talks a lot, which was hilarious, and a bit of a problem for Kangee. And he makes that problem known and upsets Jase in the process. You don't like me, so I'll stop bothering you. I can take the hint and yours wasn't exactly subtle. The age difference was probably going to be an issue too, although it wasn't much. But Kangee worked from home and Jase was still at school - doing his thesis, but still young and only in the area for two weeks. Kangee does wonder if Jase can help him get rid of the developers who want his land, but that would mean working to help Jase find his bear, and he wasn't sure if he could take the risk. The raven was seriously cute - Kangee in human form was like the grizzly bear Jase was looking for, in attitude at least, but the raven half of him was too adorable for words, with the pebble and the stick. Their first night camping together was really sweet too, imagine a shifter not knowing anything about camping or roasting marshmallows. This whole story was sweet really, just like the marshmallows. Jase was the goey part and Kangee, well he was more like the burnt exterior. But when his raven took off for California, yep my heart melted. Just like Kangee's marshmallows.
