Chris believes that often the greatest teachers in our lives are those who love and care for us the most, such as a parent. In his case, it was his father, Dean Schatz, a common man with admirable qualities that made him stand out. He recounts specific events and moments with his father and lessons learned from them. While he learned some of these lessons “the hard way”, he realized others through self-reflections that occurred after he lost his father to brain cancer at the age of 54. Chris Schatz pours out some his most personal stories in “Dad, You Were Right”. The stories and the experiences presented in the book are relate-able in more ways than one. Many of us have felt lost and questioned our direction at some point or another. We’ve all made mistakes and tried to learn from them. It’s always reassuring to take advice from someone who has been through similar ordeals. Their lessons can often help us find the way. That is exactly what this book does through its beautiful writing and powerful narrative. Order your copy today!

Throughout the book, Schatz reminisces about his late father and tells various stories from his life. These stories range from hilarious to heartbreaking, but always reflect on and identify various "lessens learned" by Schatz from his father. It is easy to fall in love with Schatz's father, Dean, a humble, modest and (apparently) frugal man, but it is equally as effortless to identify with the author, Chris, an individual that appreciates the life lessons as he raises his family. Schatz speaks with his heart throughout the book; talking about his love and respect for his late father, reflecting on his own troubles and failed marriage, and admitting various (and ample) mistakes he has made in the past. However, Schatz tells all these stories in a style unique to him; one that portrays his cheerful and optimistic nature. This book has qualities much like that of "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. Whereas "The Last Lecture" was written by a terminally ill father to his young children, "Dad, You Were Right" provides the alternate perspective of a son whose father died too young. Like Pausch's book, though, Schatz's book discusses morals, traits and characteristics everyone should strive to embody. While some of the lessons are novel, some are as old as time. Nonetheless, each story reinforces the value of the described characteristics in a modern world.Even for those that have never had the privilege to meet Dean Schatz, this book offers advice and "lessons" that everyone should pass on to the next generation.

Touching and well written By TFLReader Author Chris Schatz hit me right between the eyes with his beautifully written and honest book "Dad, You Were Right: Reflections from a Stubborn Son". I, too, lost my father suddenly and too soon to cancer and have a child who has never met his grandfather, so reflect often on the conversations that we had over the years and the advice that I pointedly ignored. Schatz recounts many of these moments with his own father in his book as he remembers the sage advice that his father doled out over the years, hoping to pass along some wisdom through the written word to his own children. This was a wonderfully insightful book about lessons learned that touched me and made me want to have these conversations with my own son. Very well done.

As Chris states, "...lesson can be found all around us, in everyday events, from everyday people". This book is just that and a much needed reminder to stop and take a moment to reflect in our now time driven society. The book is jam packed with positiveness! As I've had Chris as an instructor, his personal story in Reflections From a Stubborn Son amplifies what I've learned from him as a student. Definitely worth the read and I will read over and over again as a reminder for myself, as well as share with others. Thanks for sharing your personal story Chris and will be looking forward to the next book!
