Book 1 - Shifter's Uprising Series. Can be read as standalone. Carlin is an Alpha Wolf Fighter, one of only three in the top spots at the Souterrain - an underground fighting club, run by the Elite to punish shifters who have gone outside of the laws. He's happy enough, only has to fight exhibition matches, has his own apartment space, food and sex on tap - yep, life it good. So when Martin offers him the chance to fight for his freedom, Carlin turns it down. It's no fun being a lone wolf and Carlin is quite happy where he is. Then Lucas catches his eye. A handsome man, a stunning fighter, moving up through the ranks fast. Lucas might not have the killer attitude that most men at the Souterrain have, but he's got the moves. Carlin has no problems insisting the man is bought to his apartment - sex is never a bad idea. But when he catches Lucas's scent and realizes the man is his fated mate, suddenly getting him to bed is the least of his problems. Lucas wants to be free, and for the first time in a long time, so does Carlin. Unfortunately there is more to Lucas than meets the eye. Martin certainly has no intention of letting them go, and if he has to have Carlin killed to keep Lucas at the Souterrain, then the man has no problems with that either. Suddenly the deal Carlin makes with Martin goes horribly wrong, and Carlin and Lucas realize that the price for freedom might be Carlin's life, and even then Lucas will not be free. Warnings: M/M sex, HEA, some violence (they are in a fight club after all). A growly Alpha who lets his emotions get the best of him, and a hybrid shifter with a wicked imagination.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Lisa Oliver has such an easy, compelling style of writing. By Sinfully I read a lot of dark fiction in both mainstream and M/M romance and sometimes I need something completely different. A cleansing, a bit like sorbet between courses and Lisa Oliver fits a niche in my reading world, that always takes me to a happy place. So when I read the blurb for Uncaged, the first book in a new series I thought… Whoa… Lisa Oliver writing a dark and gritty tale!Well, it starts out that way, which I think is probably the influence of Thomas Oliver. But what Lisa Oliver did so well was evolve the storyline, and started to soften the edges and as always, the humour is never far from the surface, that little bit of cheekiness that make her characters so endearing, and of course she never fails to deliver on what I love from her books… a huge dose of romance.I loved the whole premise of Uncaged, and I couldn’t put it down. Set in a dystopian world where shifters are policed by an Elite Guard; enforcers of the laws of an absent ruling family who have lost touch with those supposedly in their care. With corrupt politics rife and those in power, clearly motivated by that, and their own financial gain. As shifters on the wrong side of the law are used in a barbaric way; cage fighting, to the death. All to further enhance the authority and dominance of the Elite… and true shifter law be damned if it gets in the way.So, yes, it has touches of darkness, and the two main characters are hardened fighters, in a dog eat dog environment, not of their making. My initial impression of Carlin, was of an Alpha wolf at the top of his game within the Souterrain cage fighting system, happy with his lot because of the privileges his position affords and he’s not averse to taking compete advantage of that. Lucas on the other hand, lower ranked, is fighting for his life, hating what he has become to survive and yearns for freedom, he’s a feisty character, full of pride and I fell for him straight off.So with two strong men, I was expecting a bit of a stand off and fisty cuffs, when the ‘I want I get’ Carlin summons the ‘I will not submit to anyone’ Lucas, to his room for a little light relief… haha… who am I kidding, Carlin totally wanted to jump Lucas’s bones and pound him into the mattress, he’s so alpha! Only, you know what happens next, this is a shifter story and this is the part where I go all soft and mushy, because the whole instant attraction-mates-mine, thing, just melts my heart. Especially when the bond makes them vulnerable, and we see the tenderness and compassion that comes with their mating, as well as, the hot and smouldering mattress pounding. Paranormal romance gives authors complete license to go there, and I love that!Being mated to Lucas, of course sees Carlin’s priorities change, as does the man, he’s so protective and besotted he was adorable… and ensuring their freedom was his first concern. The excitement begins to ramp up as the plot unfolds and we see Carlin and Lucas not only having to deal with the insecurities and uncertainties of the newness of their bond, whilst at the same time trying to fight for their freedom from Souterrain. But also having to deal with the nefarious interventions of Martin, the Alpha of the Elite, a man with a total god complex and his own agenda, who will stop at nothing to ensure Carlin and Lucas never leave.Lisa Oliver has such an easy, compelling style of writing, where time just seems to stand still whilst reading and she has me totally hooked on this series. We see a part of this world developed and the book draws to a satisfactory conclusion, but there is more to come and a whole world to discover, with characters that hold so much promise. I seriously can’t wait for the next one.

Good Start By tracey I really like this new world the lisa and her son created together i love the whole underworld fight ring and i love how the to main couple lean on each other and learn to be mates together its a good start for this series looking forward to the next.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Nice Start to the Series By JustJen 3.5 Stars - This turned out to not be nearly as dark as I was expecting. In this world, the shifters are run by a royal family, who overrule the Elite, or basically their police force. When shifters are picked up for various infractions, no matter what that may be, they are either placed in brothels or the Souterrain, or underground fighting ring. The Souterrain is basically a prison where the inmates have to fight, usually to the death. As the audience is human, the shifters are given drugs to prevent their shifts during fights. The top three fighters are the Alphas who enjoy better accommodations, food, etc. and are kept segregated from the lower fighters, though they may call upon any of them at any time for their pleasure, etc.Carlin is one of the Alphas who takes a shine to Lucas, a fighter quickly rising up in the ranks. At their first actual meeting, they discover they are true mates. Carlin then petitions the Elite to fight for his freedom, something that has already been offered to him in the past. Once gained, he intends to take Lucas with him, as the shifter laws permit.Unfortunately, there are other things at play here, and so Carlin is granted his wish but must do so over the course of three fights. This story started out kind of iffy for me in that it seemed a little cheesy once the mating took place. These two hardened fighters got mushy lovey dovey in the span of a few minutes, so much so that I almost gave up. But, I stuck with it, and as things got a little trickier and a few twists were revealed, my interest peaked back up. It continued to pick up speed from there, and things were much more exciting and interesting by the end. There are still a few unanswered questions, but I really enjoyed how this story evolved. It ended up being a nice set up for the rest of the story and what’s to come and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out in the next installment.

I love a story that can let you use your imagination when following the lives of the characters. I expect to follow-up reading the next book in the series.

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Interesting Although Short By Voracious Reader Marine Mark Johnson is visiting a friend before he ships out to Afghanistan. In a bar he sees a hooded man follow a pretty waitress out, and he goes to make sure she's not harmed. Mark intervenes when the young lady is accosted, and the next day he finds her to make sure she's okay. Amanda is unsure of him at first, but after a day together, Mark's afraid he's beginning to care too much. His mother was a cold, manipulating woman that no one could please, and he’s vowed to never let himself become attached.Amanda Prince is a 21-year old college student, who took the job in the bar, because it paid more than most. When the creep attacked her, she quit. As she gets to know Mark, she realizes he’s the type of man she’s been looking for, except for his resolve to not have a woman waiting for him at home. What can she do, because nothing seems to change his mind? This was an interesting book and well-written. It would have been even better if it had more depth. Mark was quite hard-headed, and Amanda was rather insipid, but they were still likable. The story was a short 101 pages, and, although the ending was rushed with few details or answers to questions about the future, it did have a definite ending. I gave it 4.5, which rounded up to a five.

The content is great and the extra's added(maps, commentary, etc) are also very good. The only dislike I have is the printing. To me it seems light. In other words, the black letters are pale and therefore hard to see. This may be a result of the font or paper used, I do not know. Still for $50 a very good bible and study aid.

This is a re-releaseStephanI always thought the gypsies cursed my family centuries ago, but most members of my family feel different, they say we were gifted with prosperity and the ability to know our soul mate. Great, you say, well they forgot to mention when we find our soul mate we turn into possessive cavemen.I never wanted the curse to get me. I was happy with my privileged life, a new woman every night and no one ever saying no to me. I had my life planned out just how I wanted it. That was until I saw her--Jade Black. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on Jade she was mine. My soul mate. The problem is I'm having trouble convincing her.JadeI'm so close to freedom, to being eighteen and having a say in my life. Getting my Higher School Certificate, going to university, and living the life I've always dreamed. I'm so close. I blame my mother for dying, because I'm not eighteen I have to either go into foster care or live with my deadbeat grandpa in Reed Creek. I choose my grandpa. I can put up with him until I graduate.

I mean wow where do I begin she fulfilled every women fantasy in these book. She created an interesting story that includes a gypsy gifting the Silverman's with being able to find there soul mates. that alone made me fall in love with this book. Hazel gave me everything I want in a book she gave me an alpha male that is sexy, caring and knows what he wants and in this case Stephan wants Jade and in his eyes Jade is his and only his. I love when Stephan right when he meets Jade his like your mine and only mine. All Stephan says through this whole book is Mine lol. I also love how Hazel made Jade a really strong but caring character who stands up for herself. If you have not read any of Hazel books go read them but first start with this book you will love it.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This book had me at caveman... By S. Richards Love me an over-the-top caveman alpha hero. Never read this author before, and I'm pretty pleased with her. She definitely can write a crazy jealous-possessive kind of hero. He was gone for his h as soon as he set eyes on her; he's growly and was "she's all mine!" He was like an alpha in training, and I enjoyed his almost stalkerish vibe. He was pushy and bossy, and I liked that about him. The heroine was a sweet but a kind of sad character. Glad she found some love and happiness. This romance is set in high school in Australia, so if you're not into books set in high school, this might not be for you. The hero is 19 and the heroine is about to turn 18, but they both felt a little younger than that to me. It's listed as New Adult/college, but h/H seemed not as adult as some new adult leads I've read. Sometimes they seemed too young for me, but Stephan and Jade were likable, and they made a sweet couple together. Some sex happens in the last 25% of the story, and it's steamy and sexy. I might actually have liked a few more sexy times. There are some grammar/editing issues, and the story pacing threw me off toward the end, but overall, it's a light, uncomplicated, and enjoyable read with a hero who's like a baby alpha first getting his caveman on and learning to thump his chest and throw his weight around. He reminded me a bit of Lynda Chance's Marco (that phone!) mixed with some of Tijan's Logan. I enjoyed this Hazel Gower, liked her set up here and her idea of an alpha male, and I would check out more of her heroes as the other Silverman men get stories. 3.5-4 stars, a pretty good read that was fun and easy and killed some time.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Hands off boys, there's a new caveman in town. By Linda W I love the possessive, jealous caveman that lurks in men. Sometimes you only get glimpses of him and sometimes he breaks down the door and sweeps you away.Stephan and Jade have a mix of both. This book hit all the right hot spots and was a real page turner for me. I love HG's books and have almost all of them. I like the writing style and how easily it all flowed and how we knew the emotions of the characters.Stephan's brother is next in the series, I believe. He had a good time laughing at Stephan when things weren't going Stephan's way. I'm sure Derrick will be fighting that caveman buried so deep in his DNA by a girl that just doesn't get why he's so crazy. If you are a fan of Jordan Silver you will like this caveman series.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. "They speak the language of passion" By Marilyn Shoemaker Melanie Milburne takes her readers on a sensual and emotional journey with The Venadicci Marriage Vengeance. It's a very engrossing and emotional love story. For Vinn Venadicci it was going to be a pleasure to tame the woman who he couldn't seem to forget and now she was going to become his wife after seven long years. Vinn's mother was the St. Clairs housekeeper and during her teenage years Gariella had taunted him and on the eve of her wedding when he asked her not to marry because he knew the truth about her husband, she refused but not before kissing him back. And then he knew someday they had to be together, even though she was marrying out of duty to her family and to a family friend. He was ruthless, rich and had the power to save her father's company and the choice was hers as Vinn gave her only one option......to marry him. Gabby agrees for her parents sake but she wasn't going to give up without a fight. She might marry him but he was definitely not going to have her. In her youth she had been shallow and cruel to Vinn, had taunted him and now she thought he was going to get even with her. However, she needs Vinn to settle and save her father's company as someone is calling in the loan and trying to take the company. What Gabby doesn't know is who and the secrets concerning the takeover. All she knows is due to her father being hospitalized, he can't take one more stressful event in his life. The sexual chemistry between Vinn and Gabby leaps off the pages. She can't seem to control her temper around him where Vinn controls his quite well. Is he out for revenge because of the way she treated him in the past? Has there always been an underlying attraction to this Italian bad boy by this spoiled rich girl? Yes to both but you will absolutely not believe how spectacular their love story is and how they work though their past, their present and their future.Their marriage begins with all sorts of barbs, accussations and the honeymoon, well let's just say, Ms. Milburne wrote one romantic masterpiece. My heart ached for them both because trying to read between the lines, I sincerely believed they must have loved each other all of those years ago when Vinn had visited her brother and his mother at their mansion. All of those years of Gabby teasing, taunting and making fun of him. And now, the tables are turned because their time honeymoon spent together at the St. Clair's island resort had their emotions skyrocketing! When Gabby reveals about her abussive marriage and Vinn reveals a few things himself, you actually wonder how they can make this marriage work.In the end, it was about forgiveness, understanding and accepting each other, loving each other. The Venadicci Marriage Vengeance is one incredible romance and gives one a new meaning to second chances.Behind the Bookat I(Heart)Presents:[....]

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Romance Junkie By A Romance Junkie This is the first time that Ms Shoemaker and I disagree on a book. This book had a good story and it had the usual rich alpha male but I just had a hard time feeling sorry for Blondie. She married some guy for all the wrong reasons, stays married to the guy for five long abusive years till he dies, all for what? More wrong reason. Vinn our hero was her housekeepers son who was treated like crap by "Blondie" as he calls her sometimes and by her mother who as it turns out was no better than his mother. I read the whole book waiting for the vengeance part to kick in but it never happened, it barely even explained what it was. I think Blondie was just plain stupid, maybe her late husband bitch slapped her once too many times, I don't know. The ending was flat and left me flipping pages to see if my kindle skipped some pages, It didn't. Towards the end it drags in a half sister of Vinn's from the father they share and hate, and again nada! I gave it three stars because two would have been too little and three almost too much, I just didn't like her. I kept trying to find a reason to like her, or even a reason why Vinn liked her but again, nada.

The h, also known as Blondie, was one of the meanest (if not the meanest) heroines I read in a Harlequin. There is nothing I like about this girl! She was mean to the H for no good reason, she was weak, she was a tease & a grade A whiner! From the very beginning I wanted the H to just dump this chick & find someone more deserving of his love. Seriously! The H was so very, very patient & generous that I wonder what he ever saw in this bratty princess! I've read other works by Ms. Milburne before & I remember liking them. This one sadly was a big disappointment. The ending was hurried & there were issues that were not explained to my satisfaction. It got finished so abruptly I felt I was reading the iPhone text version of the HEA!Over all, I wasn't sorry to have read it -- after all, it was part of the Latin lovers & Greek husbands quartet that I bought. I just wish it was better because the H was very kind. I will recommend it as a read (if you can borrow it) but not good enough to purchase.

Friends with benefits is fine for some but what happens when a threesome turns into a bizarre love triangle? Twenty-one year old Sadie Cooper has been too scared to step outside her comfort zone for most of her life. Having lived quietly with her now deceased mother, Sadie finds new experiences difficult. She likes being a homebody, even if it's little predictable at times. She likes boring because boring is safe. It's easy to plan for boring. Nicholas Lawson has other ideas for Sadie, however. From the moment they meet on the beach, the chemistry between them is evident and Sadie finds herself feeling things she’s only ever read about in books. Nicholas only has to say how high and Sadie is willing to jump. And fall. Nicholas can coax Sadie into doing things she's never dreamed of... like having a threesome with him and best mate Joel. Sure, Sadie’s attracted to Joel. Insanely so. She might even love him a little if he wasn’t so damn annoying. Joel's cute and funny, not to mention rather charismatic. But Joel openly admits he's into 'bedding not wedding'. He’s not the relationship kind. And Sadie most definitely is. A harmless bit of fun can get very sticky when love enters the room THIS IS A NOVELLA LENGTH TITLE.

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. a threesome and not much else By Gatorfan SPOILER---I'm not sure if this is listed as a romance but if it is to me it wasn't. Girl on the beach meets a guy. He is a hunk and nice to her. 10 minutes later she is wanting to have sex with him. They go to dinner and she is sure she wants to have sex with him. Two days later she is on an isolated part of a beach she has never been on before. Broad daylight, no one visible in either direction so she strips down and goes into the ocean. This is a girl that has always been afraid of the water since her mother drown and doesn't like to swim in anything other than a pool or if she can see the bottom. So she goes into the ocean by herself, etc. and lo and behold she doses off while floating on her back and a guy comes up on a surfboard to see if she is alright. The whole episode on getting back to shore was just unbelievable to me. So, she meets a second guy that is a hunk and she wouldn't mind having sex with him. As her lucky would have it they turn out to be best friends and business partners, guy #1 and guy #2. She just can't decide which one she wants and fanaticizes about having them both at the same time. This gal is 22 the guys are 29 and 30. They act as tho sharing is the furthest thing from their minds and they won't be able to share easily but surprise, surprise, they fall into the idea after a few minutes thought. I just had the feeling all along that these two have set up this chick and she was ripe for the plucking - to put it nicely. Now she is no innocent babe in the woods, she has been having sex while in college and she has a wild roommate that shares all her adventures, so she has been around the block. They had it all worked out to quickly for this to have been a one time thing for the guys. They even have their positions worked out while on the dance floor, getting drunk out of their minds, and negotiating the terms for this little threesome.I didn't see any romance involved. It was just sex. Oh, and then her roommate from college drops in unexpected and almost ruins all their plans. Now this roommate is the wild child but our heroine is so concerned over what this girl will think of her if she finds out about the threesome they have planned. Really? She is going to cast stones? Oh, I forgot, the roommate has done just about everything there is but she has NEVER done a threesome. Like that rates higher on the slutty chart! The next morning as they are coming off their night of wild sex, the roommate drops in and just barges into her house and her room. I couldn't believe that scene. Do people really behave this way??? This gal also has a big problem with alcohol. She drinks like a fish and on all occasions. This gal was for lack of a better word just a little bit slutty. I say that in the nicest way.I believe the story was taking place in possibly New Zealand or maybe Britain, not sure. The dialogue was definitely not American. Not that it matters. I quit reading after the roommate barges into the heroine's bedroom. I just found that I didn't care for this gal at all and couldn't see this story going anywhere. I'm sure I probably lead a very sheltered life but there just seemed to be nothing but problems ahead for this group. This one was just not for me. This is my first experience with this writer and the book was free so not much lost. It seems as though other reviewers liked it so maybe I am just too old for this kind of "love" story.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Very well written! By Shelly I don't read a lot of steamy books, but this was a great read. Very well written, with a likable and believable main character. Sadie's the sensible type who never dreamed she would find herself the object of desire of two men, let alone two men who are best friends. Unlike other stories of this nature, the reader can actually relate to and care about this character. If you're looking for a sensual story with interesting personalities and a little bit of humor thrown in from time to time, you don't want to miss this read. Well done!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Want more!! By Colleen I didn't know exactly what to expect when I read the first book. It was a little racier than I have ever read before but honestly I couldn't put it down. I have just read the second book and want more. If anything I just wish there was more in each book. Love it!

From the Author I love cats.Scratch9 is a love-letter to my own cats, who have provided hilarity, inspiration, animal wisdom and love for years. Scratch is not your stereotypical sarcastic, lazy, above-it-all feline, because that's now what my cats taught me about themselves. He's fun, funny and rambunctious. He's equally bold and trepidatious. Most of all, he loves his best girl Penelope. If you like comedy, heroism and devoted friendship, you'll want to go with Scratch on his journey.

About the Author Rob M. Worley is the Eisner-nominated writer of comics, books and screenplays. Best-known for his hit all-ages comic book title "Scratch9," Rob has a wealth of writing experience. He's worked for nearly every comic publisher in the business, written dozens of published books and completed numerous screenplays. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A superlative follow-on for the Alex Destephano series. Highly recommended! By Enrico Grafitti The fourth book in the Alex Destephano series, ‘Toxic New Year’ by Judith Lucci has a difficult task to follow the high standard of the author’s previous medical thrillers yet takes that challenge and surpasses the goal with ease. It balances solid, fast-paced intrigue with a character-based story centred round her hospital lawyer protagonist. From the initial pages the reader is steadfastly drawn into the tale as we follow the events leading up to a deadly terrorist bombing. Fans of the author’s previous works will encounter new facets of familiar characters as the events unfold. Even the life of the protagonist is shaken to its core as she encounters her past and makes a series of decisions that take her into uncharted waters. As usual, Lucci does a superb job of placing the reader in the New Orleans and Virginian society in which her heroine moves. With flowing descriptions and insightful dialogue she relates the hours before the attack, creating a convincing canvas against which the placid life of the New Year celebrations and marriage of two of her characters unfolds, only to bring this crashing down as harsh reality intrudes. We are also introduced to three new characters, each with interesting backstories to reveal: Digger Stilgrove and his wife Mary each have important supporting roles in the first half of the novel. Stilgrove’s intriguing past is hinted at and I hope we get to meet him again in another novel. The third character, Jacob Stark, had to be the hardest to write, however, and a huge gamble by the author. An ex-CIA man turned co-author of the terrorist attack who, by an interesting turn of events, re-enters Alex Destephano’s life to add even more uncertainty to her future. Stark is a character you have to hate on a basic visceral level for his despicable acts at the beginning of the book, yet we are allowed to see, and even sympathise with, his reasoning. Truly a fine portrait of moral ambiguity by Lucci, one which helps to elevate this series to new heights.A superlative follow-on for the Alex Destephano series. Highly recommended!

Terrorism With A Twist By Kindle Customer49 Having read Judith Lucci before, I knew going in I would get quickly involved, and once again, she did not disappoint. Right off the bat, in "Toxic New Year: The Day That Wouldn't End," we learn about a terrorist plot to blow up hundreds of people gathering at the home of a well known Congressman and jihadist-hater.Present are the same appealing protagonists--Alex, her ex-husband, the head of police and his brand new wife. But a new, complex, sympathetic character emerges, someone who, due to family circumstances, helps plan this deadly attack. Not your typical terrorist, he is a former American hero. Yet despite his fatal intentions, we are drawn into his story, as Lucci deftly builds tension and heads us towards the inevitable strike.Although a sudden twist turns events into a lower deadly body count, we are still catapulted into more plot and character development that keeps the pages turning nicely. Politics, mafia revenge, attractions, and touching family reunions link arm-in-arm as Lucci helps us realize that doing the 'right thing' personally doesn't always translate into blissful consequences. With a great ending that screams, "Boy, I can't wait to buy her next book to find out what's gonna happen!" this books makes for a very entertaining read.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Toxic New Year ... By Rita And toxic it has been in more ways than one. Alex, Robert, Jack and Monique head to Alex's grandparents home in Virginia for a celebration of a special event. The next day, New Years Day, there is more celebrating even though the weather has turned bad with blizzard like conditions which doesn't however stop the guests from arriving for the annual New Years Day party. From that point on there are Jihadists, Mafia bosses and henchmen, traitors, bombs, murders, injuries...you name it it happens. This one is the 4th book in the series and I look forward to the 5th. The plot is believable and the characters are growing in each book. These series are good, clean mysteries and suspense books. There is some cursing - minimal - no explicit sex scenes - leaving what happens to your imagination. If there is any negative to this book, it's that there were far more typos and misused words than in the previous books but though occasionally distracting, not enough for me to rate the book lower.I will continue to read books published by this author and would recommend this series.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Too much rehash of previous book By Roni I'm a huge fan of both series by J.A. Armstrong. Having said that I will say this one was my least favorite. To me it seemed like a lot of the book was spent rehashing what happened in the past books. I understand the need to remind readers on tidbits from previous books as a refresher but to me this felt more like it was written for someone who didn't really read the past books. If I take away all the rehash then I would say it was good. I like watching how Addy & Em's relationship deals with day to day life and like always there are a few scenes that will make you laugh and smile.

Baumdier I found the story to provide the same level of enjoyment I discovered in the author's previous installments in this series. For that reason I would have no hesitation in rewarding it with 5 stars. I am however, uncomfortable with the author's pace in moving the story rapidly along. She leapfrogs through weeks, months, and years. It put me in mind of a Reader's Digest condensation, and a sloppy one at that.At one point, while traveling, Addison and Emma discuss a gift Addy will bring to Em when she returns. The author invests a great deal into the buildup of suspense and significance of the gift, only to skip forward once again, to a time long after Addy's return, leaving the mystery of her gift unaddressed through to the end of the book!In another instance, the eponymous middle name of a character is revealed which is of significance to the reader because of its resolution of several conversations which occur in this and a prior installment. The reader anticipates a joyful response and romantic observances by Addy and Em, but the opportunity for a joyful exchange between them is confusingly and conspicuously never exploited, to the reader's disappointment. The way these have been handled make me strongly suspect that the author actually forgot to wrap up issues, in her rush to get this installment to market!I have no idea why previous reviewers had problems with excessive rehashing of events from previous installments. I found the writing to be just fine in that regard. I suppose those with better recall than I have, might find any allusion to prior accounts an annoyance, but it would never have occurred to me to make that observation.Considering the plethoric abundance of inexcusable editing errors we encounter in the nascent advent of independent publishing, this installment of the series featured comparatively few. Still, when I encounter one, I feel harshly slapped out of my imagination into reality, losing the depth of my immersion into the story. It greatly puzzles me why an obviously creative, imaginative and highly talented storyteller would put such considerable effort into her art, only to ignore the necessity to employ the talents of someone who can supplement her weakness in narrative grammar, spelling, and the difficulty we all have in spotting our own errors.I'm afraid this far-too-common feature of sloppy publishing will continue to plague us until we readers begin to address it as a significant criterion for review. I'm going to penalize such editorial negligence in my own reviews by eliminating a single star.I submit a proposition that we move to a system where each star corresponds to each of a number of criteria so that the reader can tailor his book selection to eliminate from consideration any book which indicates weakness in a criterion the reader values. e.g. If a book is weak in terms of editing errors, and the reader finds such books objectionable, an empty star in that column could afford the reader a greater economy of his time in making a choice he will not later regret.

Too many Grammatical Mistakes By Bethany M This was an ok addition to the series but the grammatical mistakes as well as calling some characters the wrong name in parts detracted from the story for me. I ended up skipping whole swaths just to get to the point and have it be done.

That is your batting average in the last 6 or 7 years. Your early books were all hits, one after another. Your readers could rely on any book with your name on the cover to be a great read, one that grabbed us from the first page, and took us along on a fun, emotional and satisfying ride, leaving us anxiously awaiting your next novel. Years would go by, and then a new treat, with your name on it would appear on shelves. That was then. This is now. So many of your recent novels have been, quite frankly, awful, trite, predictable, and shall we say, Danielle Steelesque in style and content?Saving Grace could have been good, but it was utterly predictable, totally unrealistic, and read as if you wrote it post haste. I have to point out that there was not much time between the publication of this book and your last one. Perhaps taking more time to create believable and sympathetic characters would have done some good. The premise of being duped and falling prey to the malicious maneuvers of a manipulative sociopath is a good one. Unfortunately, in your hands, it was ridiculously transparent and a bore to read. You had a small window of opportunity to redeem yourself in the end, by having Beth's rein of terror stopped. Did you do that? No, which made for a very unsatisfying ending. Jane, dear girl, you have so much talent. Please slow down, find a better editor and practice your craft as you did when your name was not the largest thing on your book covers. Learn something from your pathetic character, Ted. Don't be a has been. You can do this. I know you can. Sadly, people are spending their money to buy your books, and are not getting what they hoped to receive for the money they spent.

To the world Ted and Grace Chapman are the perfect couple. However, Ted has a huge ego, and has a habit of being a bully towards his wife during their private time. Thankfully, Ellen, Ted's assistant is skilled at keeping him and his ego under control. When Ellen has to quit and Ted and Grace hire a new assistant, Beth, the perfect Ted and Grace quickly come un-done both privately and publicly. To be honest....I did not enjoy this book. The story line has been told before and the author seemed to take way too long to tell it. The reader knows exactly what is going to happen, there are no twists, no clever parts, no surprises - anywhere! And just because the character (Grace) likes to cook, Jane Green decided to throw in 19 (that I counted) recipes scattered throughout the book that include a full list of ingredients, directions and the number of servings the recipe will produce. Ugh!Not Recommended!

McGee At first glance, Jane Green's new novel is a welcome departure from her normal fare: she has already, over the course of her career, morphed from classic chick lit (think Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic) to slightly weightier chick lit books to women's/relationship books featuring women in marriages struggling with family problems from infidelity to blended families and illness. In other words, pretty standard Lifetime TV stuff. This one seemed as if it was going to break new ground. When the reader first meets Grace Chapman, it is as a woman who is afraid of her husband's furies and temper; she devotes much of her life to accommodating his whims and making him comfortable, when she isn't serving others (helping her perfect daughter; working with homeless women at a shelter and teaching them life skills, like cooking.) Ted Chapman, you see, is a Famous Author, with an ego to match, and his universe revolves around him, and Grace, always slightly scatty, now needs to find him a new assistant to help make the temper and the marriage tolerable. Enter Beth, the perfect assistant. And here's where it all falls apart and becomes very "Single White Female". Because all the B movie clues are there: you just KNOW that Beth is Too Good To Be True, that she is 'gaslighting' Grace, and it's all part of a big plot. The only question is when Grace will wise up. If this were a movie, you'd be yelling at the screen within the first half hour.It isn't a movie, unfortunately, because there aren't any visuals to distract the reader from the rather ho hum prose and the increasingly cliché-ridden plot. Half the time, I felt I was suffering from an acute case of déjà vu: none of this new. Nor does Green take it in an unexpected direction. Instead, the book veers off into a didactic and pompous lecture on the evils of pharmaceutical treatment of bipolar disease. There's a way to deliver that kind of message subtly in a novel, but clearly Green was in too much of a rush to stop and figure out what it was or how to pull it off. What a pity. There was potential here for something interesting -- an author whose sales aren't what they once were, confronting a change in his life, and who is accustomed to bullying to get his own way. But resorting to "show and tell" doesn't work as a way to recount the tale. The good parts? Well, it's a rapid read and, if you don't mind the fact that you know pretty much what is coming next, a little bit suspenseful at times. And befitting Grace's expertise as a chef, there are lots of recipes at the end of the chapters. Nothing exotic, but I might even try some of them out. They may end up being the tastiest part of the book.

I love Kayla, but Matthew leaves me with a lot to be desired. I feel like he's kinda a user. Hoping he will change. He is frustrating to no end. I hope it's worth it in the end.

The first couple of books there was a glimpse here and there but I felt, Kayla may not be cut out for Washington, book 4 proved me wrong. Kayla seems to be able to work her magic while helping Matthew advance his career, I am worried what it may cost them in the end. I received a copy of book 4 via ARC.... I really enjoy Sarah's books and recently finished her series Weeks...which again was another out standing series....this one is the best yet it keeps getting better and better as I turn each page.

The female characters were being described similar to as forced, they could have been better if shown with some more emotions and desires . The story was more on the flat side without much twists and turns. On the other hand it has justified the part with the Alpha Billionaire. King is an Alpha Man, he gets what he wants and that too in hard way.Good one overall!

Finally you meet this one great guy…
You really like him. He just seems so perfect. And he seems to like you just as much. Time passes… you make plans for the future, maybe you move in together. More time passes… you don’t want to pressure him, and there really is no need because everything’s going great! Then something strange happens, he starts dragging his feet, edging away, saying he needs space or he feels pressured. You don’t know what to do, but it slowly dawns on you that maybe you have wasted your time on this guy, maybe he will never commit. There must be a better way than this! Just imagine you could tap into his primal desires and find, if not the perfect partner, at least a guy on the same page. A guy that had a good chance of wanting a long term committed relationship as much as you do. Just imagine you didn’t have to rely on chance and trial and error… and you could avoid wasting so much time on relationships that, in the end, go no-where. Maybe there is another way. A quick read but packed with interesting insights into the male mind, you will never look at relationships in quite the same way again!

By JML An eye opening and informative book by an author who has obviously done plenty of research on this somewhat mystifying dilemma that us women are presented with. I have now learnt the importance of seeing myself through his eyes and the reminder to always maximise my assets even when in a longer term relationship. I also got Bennie’s app (ratehimplus) which I’m finding to be pretty nifty, fun and oddly enough reasonably accurate in its assessments of some couples I know. Will also help me in the dating game. All thought provoking and helpful!! Highly recommend this little read.

Clay, is a fast paced Military mystery. Two childhood friends disconnect from each other after a falling out of sorts. Upon learning of his friends death, Clay begins traveling down memory lane wishing he could return to the day where he and his best friend parted ways. After hearing the news that his friend was not dead, but alive and in route to the Naval hospital, he began the journey to patch up the relationship. When Mike and Clay are reunited, Clay makes the horrific discovery that Mike has lost all memory prior to his deployment and accident. The story continues on with Mike becoming aware that he "assaulted" an officer and is in the process of being Court Marshall. Once being released, Mike asks Clay to take him on a trip back to their home town so that he may find the missing pieces of his memory and reconnect with family and loved ones. After being locked up, disowned, and finding out that he was a millionaire, Mike and Clay head back to base just to end up departing one another along the way. When Mike fails to show for his Court Marshall, Clay goes to find him locked in a hotel room with a woman and drunk beyond recognition. After realizing that Mike was being duped by his "friend" Q, he is quick to accept Clay back. After being cleared of all charges, Mike leaves and goes to, once again, reconnect with his past. He finds the love of his life and discovers the reason why he and Clay parted ways in the beginning. He realizes now, that it is all in the past and can now start focusing on the here and now.THe book focuses on the corruption that lies within our military judiciary system and with it's senior officers. How they can turn one thing into something completely different. Explains how protocol is over looked and pass orders down. This book captured me from the very beginning and kept my attention all the way through.

A great read and true story too WOW By tammy ward Wow,this is a book about 2 friends who are in the Marines and grew up together but then are separated for 13 years and come together through Mike one of the men having a horrific accident in a roadside bomb on duty in Iraq and then Clay the Main character needing to help his friend who has amnesia and many other things refind himself and who he is and also how they connect, this is a true story and is remarkably well written and very suspenseful,it draws you in and keeps you there to the end of the book.I love the descriptive details of all that is going on and the roller coaster ride Mike is on,Clay is trying to sidestep some of the past to get Mike back to the here and now without ruining their new found friendship and explain some of the things Mike is missing without going against direct orders,WOW,E.Clay the author is amazing at telling a real story and so well too,i was especially in awe of Mikes past and all the things he could do and all the abilities he lost but got back through other things, this is a definite exciting page turner that kept me rooting for the underdog who it seems wasnt really the underdog at all.I am definitely going to be looking for much more from this author. And i can tell you that this friendship deserves saving and forgiveness on alot of levels and i got tears in some spots and then edge of the seat worry and excitement on some, this has it all.And the revelation Mike finds out about his parent situation is mind blowing but a relief when all is said and done there. And then the court martial and hearing in full detail and all that tells is another mind blowing event.I am amazed that all this went on and so glad that there are good outcomes in the scheme of things and sometimes we have to protect what is there to get back to where we need to be and pray we make the right decisions and for the best outcome and Clay discovered that all too well.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fade to Black is a fine example of a Military Mystery/Thriller By Charity Salinas Fade to Black is a fine example of a Military Mystery/Thriller. This story will have the reader anxious to turn the page all the way to the very last page. Fade to Black is a roller coaster ride of emotions as you follow Clay Thompson as he visits memories of his childhood, uncover surprising events of the present, and through tough decisions that will affect his future. The book is such a unique story that touches bases with friendships (old and new), lost love, memory loss, money, the military, and some legal issues. I love that this book is based on a true story. I like that I could actually feel so much emotion throughout the story. I could feel the emotions Clay was feeling, trying to deal with the dilemmas with his childhood best friend, Mike. He was really torn between making ethical decisions and saving a friendship. I could feel his annoyance with Q, for being the new friend in town, and for just being a basket case of a person. I literally couldn’t stop scrolling through the court hearings that were taking place, to find out what the end outcome would be. The book was very to the point, which was good at times. But if there was one thing I would change about this book is that it would be a little more descriptive and not so to the point. Short and sweet is good sometimes, but detail is good too. It’s important to me, to find a good balance between the two. But this was still a great read. I would recommend it to anyone who would enjoy a great story about friendship and conflict that will keep you wanting to more until the very end.
