I love a story that can let you use your imagination when following the lives of the characters. I expect to follow-up reading the next book in the series.
6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Interesting Although Short By Voracious Reader Marine Mark Johnson is visiting a friend before he ships out to Afghanistan. In a bar he sees a hooded man follow a pretty waitress out, and he goes to make sure she's not harmed. Mark intervenes when the young lady is accosted, and the next day he finds her to make sure she's okay. Amanda is unsure of him at first, but after a day together, Mark's afraid he's beginning to care too much. His mother was a cold, manipulating woman that no one could please, and he’s vowed to never let himself become attached.Amanda Prince is a 21-year old college student, who took the job in the bar, because it paid more than most. When the creep attacked her, she quit. As she gets to know Mark, she realizes he’s the type of man she’s been looking for, except for his resolve to not have a woman waiting for him at home. What can she do, because nothing seems to change his mind? This was an interesting book and well-written. It would have been even better if it had more depth. Mark was quite hard-headed, and Amanda was rather insipid, but they were still likable. The story was a short 101 pages, and, although the ending was rushed with few details or answers to questions about the future, it did have a definite ending. I gave it 4.5, which rounded up to a five.
