The storylines are intriguing with multiple subplots all woven into a marvelous read. The characters are unique with richly developed personalities and behaviors. The reader is so totally immersed in the story that when it ends he or she is saying, "no wait this can't end yet".What makes this book different is that the author developed her story around events that happened 49 yrs ago. This is not a flashback, but rather about past events and how the participants and the world are still reeling from some of those very personal events. Oh yes, and because this is a political thriller there is political corruption, greed and mayhem! This of course is when the cast of characters shine, twinkle, cry and fight the clashes of good and evil.I encourage the reader to start with "An Unlikely Hero" as that introduces these wonderful characters and the organization "Enigma" which sets the premise for the author's first installment in this series! Enjoy everyone as you get to know this author and her books.

Tierney really makes you feel like you are part of the story. Yes it is about the corruption of government but the development of the characters is amazing. It is a stand alone book but you should read the first in the series "Unlikely Hero". It will make you realize what the main characters have had to go through up to this point.Love a mystery?...check. Love romance?....check. Love suspense?....check. Winds of Deception does not disappoint.

One day, he finds himself with an interesting letter in his hand, namely a request for a Nadia Osipova to be allowed to stay on in the UK. Without any money, no steady job and no boyfriend, Nadia is on the verge of being back deported to Russia, even though she knows the UK is her real home since she arrived when she was just a teenager to go to boarding school. As if it was faith, Alex unexpectedly meets the real Nadia at a pub quiz at a local pub and they become friends. As Nadia gets ready to leave London, she takes Alex on a journey to visit all of her favourite spots and do the sightseeing she never got to do. Alex can't help but grow more and more fond of Nadia, but will he realise what's right in front of him before it's too late?I'm really glad I got the chance to read and review 'Somewhere Only We Know' because I ended up thoroughly enjoying my first Erin Lawless novel, and I'm sure this won't be my last one! Erin has a great writing style that goes really well with the chick lit genre, in my opinion, and I loved reading about Nadia and Alex and their lives. I have to admit I was a bit doubtful about the topic of immigration playing an important role in this novel, because I had no idea which direction this would go in and how serious this would make the story, but the author really did a wonderful job tackling this topic and creating a fascinating and lovely story around it with some great characters at its core.The story is told from both a male and female perspective in the form of Alex and Nadia. I really liked both main characters from the start, and especially the scenes in which they featured together were my favourite with the clear chemistry and fun dialogue between the two of them. There were several aspects to the main storyline with things going on in both Alex's and Nadia's lives, making sure to keep the reader's attention at all times. I was also quite surprised by the ending of the novel which I did not see coming, but I don't want to give anything away. Overall, 'Somewhere Only We Know' is a thoroughly entertaining, fun and well-written romantic comedy that I really enjoyed from start to finish, and enough for me to straight away add Erin Lawless to my list of authors to look out for!

I'm happy to report that the second book from this newcomer lived up to the promise of the first.I enjoy funny books, and while no one would classify this as a comedy, the dry humor an wry wit provided the exact right balance to some of the heavier themes and evens.The story belongs to Nadia, a Russian student living in London, who is about to be deported and her friend Alex, a government worker at the immigration department. Alex first "meets" Nadia on paper, then gets dragged out to a pub night by a friend, at which he sees the girl in the flesh. The tough part of his job comes to the fore: He's not dealing with imaginary people, his decisions affect real people with real lives.As Nadia and Alex grow closer, so too does the date for Nadia's appeal for papers that would allow her to remain in England.Nadia is a bit of a firecracker, genuine and messy. She both reveals her feelings, and keeps things close to the vest. Putting all of her eggs in one basket could lead to heartache as she is most positively not in control of her own destiny. Alex, on the other hand, is a gamer, and a homebody, who is in love with a girl he can never have. He can be a bit of a sap, but he's very much an accurately drawn man/boy of his age. We all know the type! He's very appealing, despite the growing-up he needs to do, and it's easy to see why Nadia would turn her eye to him.Nadia ropes him into a scheme that brings out the fun-loving, risk-taking qualities that have been dormant within him, and he grows and changes. Of course, as he grows, he's drawn toward Nadia. He can't go back to being the way he was.This book is very "New Adult" in the emotional way that it examines the development of both Nadia and Alex as they are compelled to face real-world, grown-up choices. The nuances of two young people starting as friends and the push-pull of growing into something more, taking one step forward and two steps back drew me in.This is a sweet book, and much softer than Lawless's debut. Fans of contemporary romance set against the backdrop of a city that becomes a character will enjoy the storyline. The ending is satisfying, and there is enough mystery about the outcome to keep it from being run-of-the mill.

This book truly amazed me By Paris Baker I was super pleased when I won a competition for an ARC of Somewhere Only We Know – then consequently was approved on NetGalley; it felt like I sign that I simply had to read it right away!Alex’s job in immigration isn’t exactly thrilling. Day after day, forms come in, forms go out, and they’re pretty much all the same. So it’s unusual when he can’t help but take notice of one particular form, where the applicant actually seems to have a real personality, a real life, more than just being stats on paper.It’s a pretty big coincidence when a few days later, he finds himself put on a pub quiz team with the very same woman, and just like her application, Nadia in person gets under his skin. When he confesses how life seems to be passing him by, Nadia makes a plan. She has a list of things she wants to do or re-do before she may be deported, and Alex is to assist her in completing her list.As they tick off items on the list, Nadia and Alex grow closer, but so does her appeal date. Should she really risk letting someone new into her heart, when she’s so terrified of having to say goodbye to the people in her life already? Then again, can she risk not making the most of the time she has left, if her days really are numbered? Alex too struggles to know if their friendship should continue, especially with his job complicating things, but finally there’s a new side of him coming through – or is it just the real him that’s finally allowed to surface?I eagerly read every page of this story wanting to find out how things would turn out for Nadia, Alex and all their friends. Generally, I love a good HarperImpulse book for a cosy romance to snuggle up with for a bit of light reading. And this certainly was those things, but it was also so much more. This book truly amazed me with such unexpected depths. While it touches on the politics of immigration, what this book really looks at is relationships, friendships, citizenship, what it means to be ‘home’ and what it means to be ‘family’ – this book really reminded me of the quote ‘friends are the family we choose for ourselves,’ because although Nadia is technically Russian, she has been in England since she was a child, it is the only home she knows and loves, and she has made her own family from the people around her, who love her, support her and need her.As a lover of London I fell in love with the city all over again reading this and seeing its wonder through Nadia’s eyes. She has such a thirst for life and a passion for the people and places around her, I found her to be one of the most inspirational characters I’ve ever read about. She was fearless, passionate, headstrong, honest and all the things I aspire to be. No matter what, she was 100% herself, and I think there’s few greater things you can try to be in life.There really is something magical about this book and about Nadia Osipova, something that makes me want to take chances and make memories. I want to be the kind of person who dreams about going over the bar. If you want to know what that last one means, you’ll have to read it and find out for yourself.

Gambrel This will be a two-part review: (1) The original book (4 stars), and (2) The publication (1 star).(1)THE ORIGINAL BOOK: As a Montgomery descendant I was delighted to find such a deep work on family history, particularly one that pertains directly to my own forbears. David Montgomery had to approach his genealogical research in the same way that I did when I started doing it in the 1970's: by letters and local records. His work is not scholarly, but it is incredibly comprehensive. His approach does something that frequently cannot be done using internet data--he was able to name children who were born and died between censuses. Also, he was able to include tales of pioneer struggles that were still fresh in the minds of the settlers.(2)THE PUBLICATION: This book was "created" using an OCR (optical character recognition) program. While it is well-bound and was shipped very quickly to me, I soon learned that the publication did not measure up to the original in two primary ways: (a) There are paragraphs and entire pages of gibberish that cannot be read, and these were not all caused by bad originals; (b) The Index is virtually worthless, as the page references are mostly wrong, and it does not follow the original.I would have preferred NOT to say anything uncomplimentary in a public forum, but the publisher left me no choice. I simply cannot find his contact information in the book or on the internet. I applaud the publisher's intention to produce a historic book economically, but surely SOME editing could be afforded. I would not be concerned about OCR spelling errors, but when entire pages turn out to be gibberish, they are nothing more than worthless sheets of paper.FORTUNATELY, the original book can be found on the internet. It is an awkward way to read a book, but the availability of the book on-line means one can find those original pages that are now gibberish in the "created" publication. One can use the original index to locate subjects in the book, but the page numbering will be different--sometimes by quite a bit. It will take lots of work.

It is a larger than average size journal. The only thing I didn't like was the pages have a name at the bottom of each page or her website or something. I gave it as a gift so I can't look back at it but I remember being surprised it was on each page.

Being able to read this magnificent play brought the experience back to me. Suzan-Lori Parks has written a masterpiece, soon to be regarded as a modern-day classic, I am certain! EVERYONE should read this play.

I love Guirgis, but I do not understand how this did not win the Pulitzer. I love having a hard copy for plays like this, and the sleek and thematic dual front and back covers are a gorgeous addition to this unmatched play. It will live on as a classic long after Parks' death. Do yourself a favor and buy it.

15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. A great addition to a fun series By Bookaunt This Amish Village in Middlebury, Indiana is such a nice place to get to revisit through this series. Now this is the third book in this series and although you will want to read the whole series. You are able to read this as a standalone as you will have clues and such at the beginning of the story so you will know what is going on. Just like the other books in this series I have enjoyed reading this mystery. I have enjoyed getting to know each of the characters more as we go along. I really enjoy the way Amber and Hannah interact with each other. It is fun to watch them try to figure out who is the murder. Vannetta has a way of writing about the Amish that she makes you feel as you are right there in the village. I like how you don’t solve the mystery right away, the author keeps you guessing until the end of the story. There is mystery, faith and love in this book – a little something for all. If you are a fan of mysteries or Amish books then I suggest you give this book a try. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Previous Amish Village murders of Owen the furniture maker and Ethan in ‘Simple Blend’ makes the latest threat a sweetened bomb of death. Vannetta Chapman knows how to lattice a crust of suspense over a sweet Amish story. Abundant past characters from “Amish Village Mystery” books 1&2 blend like family—or like raspberry, blueberry, & strawberry sweet mix in a Very-Berry Amish fried pie.While reading “Murder Freshly Baked” I felt as much a part of the familiar resort crew as if I’d been staying a season in the inn. As friendly as an Amish volleyball game. As intriguing as any modern murder mystery. My favorite Vannetta Chapman book series to date.There’s additional plot threads of romance and a grounds keeper suffering PTSD, and cancer patient; which reminds me a man is murdered during the Middlebury Amish Village Cancer ‘Race for a Cure.” A truly packed novel. Like an Amish bakery display case—something for everyone.I was flabbergasted at how well Vannetta Chapman brought all the plot threads together for a satisfying conclusion. By Nancee In "Murder Freshly Baked," Vannetta Chapman takes us back to the Amish Artisan Village in Middlebury, Indiana, a small community where Amish and English work hand in hand to serve numerous tourists throughout the year. The characters we've come to know and love have been targeted by someone who is placing poetic notes throughout the village, threatening that pies are laced with poison. Village manager, Amber Bowman confides in Hannah Troyer, the young Amish woman who runs the coffee shop, and the two seek to do a bit of detective work.Comparable to the previous books in this series, the author creates a series of bone-chilling mysterious events as the poison poems continue to appear. Who threatens to poison people with pie for no explainable reason, and warns them in advance? Numerous questions arise as the poems continue, and strange and serious events prove quite possible deadly intent.Though poison pies are a menace to peruse, it is the season to blossom, and love is in the air. Not all is serious with Ms. Chapman's third book in this series. Wit and humor weave their way throughout this tale of poetic promises of poisoned pies and courting couples. Accuracy and detail regarding the geographical locale and customs of the community make this a very interesting and relatable story.Faith and forgiveness are strong themes that run throughout "Murder Freshly Baked." The blending of Amish and English is smooth and realistic as can be witnessed in the northern Indiana Amish community. The author's time spent in this part of the country is obvious through her authentic portrayal of the area and its people.I felt as if I'd only been gone from the Amish Artisan Village for a brief amount of time, and picked up right where I had left off. I wasn't prepared for a "poison poet" and the threat of poisoned pie, however! I'll be visiting this well-known community again next month, and I may hesitate just a tad before relishing my next slice of Amish pie! Five thumbs up! Derby Yesterday was one of the hardest days of my life as my two sons left home and assured me that they would not be returning. Waterfalls and Bridges took me from my feelings of despair to focusing on our Lord, who has a better plan and purpose for every life experience. Brown's thoughtful reflection on his own life has helped me to remember that Romans 8:28 . . all things work together for good to those who love God . . .

A Moving Memoir By Cherry Glass Half Full: Our Australian adventure is the story of a powerful and optimistic woman, who is always able to pick herself up and try again. The writing is such that I felt I was there with Sarah and her family in their move to Australia. I felt caught up in the atmosphere and learnt a lot about the country and Sarah herself. Well done! I'm keen to read what happened next and eagerly await Sarah's account of her adventures in France.

A story of a family who leave England for a better life. At first the life seems perfect, living near town, even with only one car they could make do. Then---Nigel decides to buy land in the wilds and make it suitable to live on. But mother nature has other things in store for them not once but several times. It is amazing what people can withstand and still move forward. Their youngest was on a great adventure. As life gets in the way of happinest this couple keeps picking themselves up and moving forward. A must read for those intending to take up life in Australia or Tasmania.

By Donna feibusch I really enjoyed reading Menage A Cowboy: The Complete Series (Billionaire Western Menage), all about Doctor Danny the Vet and his daughter Grace a future vet in the making & Scott and Adam Mitchell the owners of Almosta Ranch. Doctor Danny & Scott are working together to pull a colt out of its mama but are having extreme difficulties, so they ask Grace to help. She hesitate at first but jumps in and puts her hand into the mare to try and pull out the colt. Scott walks her thru what she's looking for and without looking she can feel the nose and the knee & finally the hoof, she needs both hands and pulls really hard and then the mare takes over and out come the colt. It was the most beautiful thing Grace had ever done. Sure she has seen her father do this a thousand times, but you never forget your first assist. It was even more special since, Scott was shirtless and absolutely gorgeous. He told her to go into the house up the stairs on the right into the bathroom and take a shower, cause she was covered with also rats of slime from the birth. The author wrote a very interesting and amazing story, and the characters brought the whole story to life. Read about the various adventures that Dr. Danny and his daughter Grace get into. Also read about the owners of Almosta Ranch and follow the twins through there everyday lives and the one women who has captured their hearts! I really enjoyed reading about Scott, Adam & Grace maybe there will be another bundle written about them after she becomes a vet, that would be neat!

I have read all of her books and can't get enough from her! The books in this series were no exception! They contained some hot alpha males and some tender moments as well. I enjoyed the balance that the 2 males in the book seemed to bring Grace. I appreciated how they seemed to care for her right away. When drama starts to unfold and someone needs to stand up to her father they are right there behind her the whole way. Who doesn't love a respectful cowboy, who is genuine and loving let alone 2 of them?! This book like all others Jamie Klaire has written has a nice mix of drama, sex, and tender moments.
