Helena Smrcek knows how to create characters you care about. I picked it up, meaning to read a chapter then go to sleep. Uh...Not. I finished the book around 1 a.m. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a clean read and characters that latch on to you and won't let you go.

By Ozark Grandma Maybe this just isn't "my kind of book" because it seemed very weird to me. I got it for my Kindle since I am Mennonite and the reviews focused on the situation of a peace loving Mennonite girl becoming involved with a Military man. I was most disappointed in the way the Mennonite life style was portrayed when Nora needed a safe place to stay, and was sent to a Mennonite family who did not have electricity and used a horse and buggy. That is AMISH not Mennonite, - at least not any Mennonites I know. There were so many other inconsistencies that it just spoiled the story for me completely and gave me the feeling that the author did not really know Mennonite beliefs. Nora's spiritual life was not well developed in my opinion. There were too many allusions to relationships that were never developed, such as Why Alicia was with Nora, and Nora's past family relationships. But maybe that is because I prefer books based on real life facts than on mystery novels.

The suspense grabbed me from the first page.I loved the characters of Nora and Jake and how they interacted. Amidst all the Suspense we see how Nora's Mennonite pacifism clashed with Jake a military man.Jake brought up a good point when he said he served his country so Nora could be a pacifist.Alicia did not have a big a role as I would have imagined and I hope she plays a bigger role in the next book.If you like Christian Suspense with a bit of Mennonite lifestyle thrown in, this the book for you.
