They tend to focus too much on romance, have an annoying Mary Sue or two, or lack a balance between dark & light-hearted moments. Fantasy novels are by definition meant to have the primary focus on the magical elements, of an immersive world of beautiful & horrible creatures and gods. This is exactly the case with this novel. While there are some romantic elements to the book, DeCenzo makes sure to not let them overtake the main focus of this book: a girl being thrust into beautiful, terrible new reality where magical societies struggle to survive in a world that is quickly being taken from them by humanity (as well as the meddling of another individual but I don't want to spoil that for you). No character within this novel is perfect and without their flaws (even among the main protagonists). There are some truly lovable characters that are difficult not to love, but at the same time they still have their dark sides. On the converse, one of the most despicable and sociopathic characters I have ever come across still has a soul. Lastly, I find that the seriousness of the novel does not overtake and is not overtaken by some of the more warm or humorous moments. DeCenzo manages to balance the two at the right moments without losing the novel's immersion. I found myself being drawn in by the suspense of the novel just as much as I found myself smiling at the more light-hearted situations. In short, I highly recommend FoxWyck for any fan of fantasy.

By Sean Le Generally a very entertaining novel, it opened rather typical like most protagonists tossed into a magical/mythical scene and that's where the pace is very slow. It starts to takes shape as we head towards mid-story, as expected after background and main characters have relatively been explained. The author does an excellent job giving the spotlight to each of the characters even if not part of the main cast. The approach is serious, moderately dark, with bits of very lighthearted details. The environment is a mix of technology with mythology, magic is rather low-key and doesn't play a primary role at the moment, yet hints on its focus later on. However the technology is in an odd set of WWI to completely futuristic of advance warfare, which has a bit of awkward presentation to how the beginning tries to establish it, so you'll generally be surprised by how it jumps. As far as dialogue goes, it has an entertaining tendency from being professional to crude which gives the characters a proper wide-spectrum of personality and emotions instead simply characterizing a single character to a specific archetype, simply it makes them more human. The end of the story takes the cake as it has a very warm comforting feel and draws you in potential character development that you anticipate for the next book.
