I’ve read every one in succession – they were THAT good!The books are about a high school graduate who discovers she has some super cool powers. (I’m terrible at summarizing stories.) The books are engaging and well written, the characters, funny. Each book captures your attention right away and then you’re off! I so highly recommend reading them. I just finished the 3rd book and am anxious for the 4th book to come out. (hurry up!!)Side note – I’m in my mid 40’s and loved these books so, I don’t think the target audience or sweet spot of ages is limited to Young Adults.Ps – Read them in order per the author’s instructions. Each successive book picks up where the previous book leaves off.

I would recommend starting from the first book. In this book Mara is fighting a friend that turns into a nasty dragon which he (the friend) obtained from the previous book, and the dragon has a bone to pick with Mara and her family. Besides trying to figure out how to control her powers, get a grip on metaphysics theory and this dragon she has to contend with her best friend that is possessed with a crazy sycophant wanting to bring the end to not just her world but the other different realms that exists. What's a teenager to do? Read " The Chronicles of Mara Lantern" to find out.

While this series is good at leaving you hanging, it also does a great job of making sure the previous cliffhanger is answered properly. Please don't get distracted, cuz I'm ready for the next one!

By LucyA I am not a person who reads a book “non-stop” EXCEPT that is what happened when I picked up “OldParents and Purple Tulips”. I couldn’t put it down! Betty has captured her voice and those of Mr. and Mrs. Malfait and Rolf in ways that make them leap off the page. I had to find out what is going on? What will happen next? What will Betty do?There are thousands, ye millions, of us who will benefit from reading this book. We will learn that people change – because time passes, because health changes, because relationships change. We will learn that help may be available to us, but getting that help may require tenacity we didn’t know we possessed. We will learn that belief in a higher power can be part of that help, but we must listen and watch oh, so diligently to avail ourselves of that Help. And yes, we can also learn that having ALL our valuable documents in order and accessible to our loved ones can be one of our greatest gifts to them.Thank you, Betty, for the gift of this book.

Coleman The author tells the story of a daughter’s courageous journey through the stages of mental and physical deterioration in her parents, skillfully describing events that lend heightened awareness and understanding to the devastating impacts of Alzheimer’s Disease. Old Parents and Purple Tulips portrays the daughter’s struggles in becoming “a parent to her parents,” with gritty descriptions of terrible neglect and abuse intertwined with liberal doses of wit and prayers for Divine Providence. Readers will be moved by the palpable emotion and rejoice in this woman’s perseverance, abiding faith and deep love of family.

I enjoyed that it was written as a poignant story and different from the typical kinds narratives published regarding medical issues. The author has a nice ability to bring episodes to life through well-written passages. Sometimes humorous, always gripping, the book calls attention to the plight of the caregiver in addition to the needs of afflicted. Very well done.

About the Author I started my pursuit in creative thinking and visualization as a young boy growing up in Puerto Rico. Drawing and creating was always a constant that allowed me to stay grounded and focused about the future. No matter what was happening around me, I could always look to the simplicity of a pencil and paper and know that there was a world of possibilities out there. I now hold a Master’s Degree in Architecture from Arizona State University and have over 15 years of experience as an architectural designer and illustrator. I intensely believe in the creative process at many different levels, beyond what I do in architecture alone. I have been creating my own series of a graphic novel since the time I was 15 years old, and am still working on it today as a means of voicing my story through narration and illustration. I am also extremely passionate about teaching others about the power of drawing as a thinking tool in design. About the Author These bios are generally rather dry, so I thought I'd shake up the format a little bit. Here are ten not-so-interesting tidbits about me: 1. I despise whipped cream. There, I admitted it in writing. Let the ridiculing begin. 2. Even though I have lived as far south as Key Largo, Florida and as far north as Maine, I landed in the middle. 3. If I don't make a conscious effort not to, I will drink nothing but tea morning, noon, and night. Hot tea, sweet tea, green tea - I love it all. 4. There doesn't seem to be much in life that is better than coming home to a big dog who is overjoyed to see me. My other family members usually show significantly less enthusiasm about my return. 5. Singing in my bestest, loudest voice does not make my family put on their happy faces. This includes the big, loving dog referenced above. 6. Yes, I am aware that bestest is not a word. 7. Dorothy was right. There's no place like home. 8. All of the numerous bottles in my shower must be lined up with their labels facing out. It makes me feel a little like Julia Roberts' mean husband from the movie 'Sleeping with the Enemy,' but I can't seem to control this particular quirk. 9. I love, love, love finding a great bargain. 10. Did I mention that I hate whipped cream? It makes my stomach churn to look at it, touch it, smell it, or even think about it. The MC gets dumped at the altar via text message and her spunky grandmother and sister drag her along to Hawaii where she was supposed to be going on her honeymoon. The pacing was great, I didn't find the story slowing down at any point and I'm a sucker for a HEA, so this book really hit the spot. As I read I kept picturing these characters as movie actors in a romantic comedy, Bette White and Sandra Bullock specifically. In addition to being a sweet romantic story, it was just plain funny, too. If you're looking for a light-hearted feel good story, this is for you.

Just before the ceremony is to begin, Roxie receives a text from the groom “I can’t do this. Lizzy and I R in love. Suddenly, reality comes crashing down and Roxie realizes she has been dumped and left to face their family and friends alone. Feeling appalled, shocked and humiliated, Roxie finds herself at a loss as to what to do next.Now enters the heroine of the story, the spunky spit fire of a grandmother, Grandma Baggy. By Dafna Yee I'm always happy when I'm given a complimentary book in exchange for an honest review (which I always strive to give) and I can honestly say that I enjoyed the book immensely. The only reason that I gave it four stars instead of five was that the hero, Kai, had absolutely no flaws at all!! However, I suppose everybody else sort of made up for that, especially Baggy, who I absolutely adored! (As wacky as Baggy could get, though, my favorite scene between her and Roxy was when she was brushing Roxy's hair and their tender moments then.) In fact, all the characters' personalities, both major and minor, were crisp and clear-cut and stayed true throughout the story.The descriptive imagery in the story was simply superb; I could practically smell the sunshine along with Roxy on the beach! One especially nice thing about Ann Omasta's romance books is that they actually deliver ROMANCE and not just a lot of sex!!! (Don't worry, there are well-written sex scenes in the book, but when the genre is "Romantic Comedy," it's really nice to find a book that delivers plenty of both!!)So, if you want to settle down with a well- written (and edited!!) book that will tickle your funny bone as well as sigh over a fairy tale love story, then I definitely recommend that you buy this one. About the Author Darwyn Cooke is an Eisner Award-winning cartoonist and animator. After spending several years as a magazine art director and graphic designer, Cooke switched careers and began working in animation, where he contributed to such shows as Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series and Men In Black: The Series. From there, DC Comics approached Cooke to write and illustrate a project that the artist had submitted to the company years earlier: BATMAN: EGO. The critical success of the title led to more freelance work, including the relaunch of the CATWOMAN series with writer Ed Brubaker (which inspired Cooke to write and draw the graphic novel CATWOMAN: SELINA'S BIG SCORE).     Cooke then spent several years writing and drawing the ambitious epic THE NEW FRONTIER, a six-issue miniseries bridging the gap between the end of the Golden Age of comics and the beginnings of the Silver Age. He is the writer/artist of BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN and co-writer of BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE. The only "new" work is the front slipcover. I am vastly disappointed as it only contains full issues of darwyn cooke illustrated comic books, with a few bonus full page covers. I took pics of the table of contents so you can see the full issues you are getting. the most disappointing aspect for me is the recent Darwyn Cooke Horizontal covers of the DC universe are all presented as not quite full page spreads, which is bad enough, but the designers of the book did not account for the margin/gutter, and the art is not view-able see the pics.It has 130 pages of Jonah Hex comics, which I love and already own. The new frontier covers are here, but NONE of the bonus material from the collected version. No sketches at all. Everything here is in print in other collections. No commentary or interviews with Cooke. Nothing. Just an odd collection of Darwyn Cooke issues. Of course his style is beautiful, but this is not a necessary buy at all. I plan to take an exacto knife to the binding and cannibalize it for cheap framed art. Good if you know what you are getting, and it was 45% off on Amazon when I bought it, but for me this is still buyers remorse.

Great selection of Darwyn Cooke comics By Parka [[VIDEOID:bd6308af9cce91e5ad322dbf75c546c3]]The first thing to note about DC Comics' Graphic Ink artist series is that it's more of a compilation of comics than an artbook. The same applies to the Frank Quitely book.I love Darwyn Cooke's art. He has his own unique style that stands out from other comic artists. I like his stylised characters, line art and the way he uses colours, such as those where he has to work with a limited palette, e.g. Parker comics. I also like that Darwyn Cooke's attempt at other genres other than superheroes.This book is a collection of selected comic stories that he has published with DC over the years. It includes The Private Eye which was a story sample he prepared for DC when he was just 20 years old. Oh wow, how time has passed. It's so cool to see how his work looked like back then compared to his more recent comics. In order to review Jameson, one must mention the previously released NOVA Series that first introduced us to Aven's style; which is her own and unlike no orher.Jameson Hotel is full of intrigue, mystery, very hot sex and in true Jayce style, just when you think you have it figured out...think again.Follow the life of Mark Jameson, the son of late Paul Jameson, Porn Mogul from the Nova Trilogy. Find what went on with Mark during those informative years and what drives the man now.Brilliant character building and I love that Jayce incorporated characters from Nova keeping us followers updated as well.If you have not read..YOU MUST. Jameson Hotel would make a great stand alone but, this reader recommends the you read the NOVA Trilogy, The Dark Scarlett then Jameson Hotel, in that order to get the full affect.

By MrsShep Every so often you discover an author that has the ability to invade your mind, get under your skin and keep you turning the pages in awe of what has been written. In some cases even turning the pages back and rereading in sheer disbelief that what just unfolded before my eyes had actually happened. This author for me is Aven Jayce. The Nova series is one of my all time favourites and The Jameson Hotel series is now joining it.It's not essential but I would recommend reading Nova first, if only to get your mind twisted even further.So..........the last time I met Mark Jameson he terrified me, every evil thing he did, every horrific word that came out of his mouth scared me senseless.This time I didn't feel that at all, in fact the complete opposite. He is seriously HOT and smooth and psychotic and sexy and weird and loving and funny and absolutely totally insane!Marks story is endearing in a dark and sinister sort of way. The connection he has with every single one of the other characters is played out in such a way that you want him succeed with whatever he is trying to achieve whether that be a good thing or the most truly awful crime.Julia is a fantastic addition to the characters that I'd already grown to love, I didn't for one minute expect that she'd get what she longed for but she got that and more. There was a particular romantic moment that was so swoon worthy it had me literally melting.Catching up with the characters from Nova has been an absolute pleasure, yes it's dark and twisted but it's magic in the form of words. In my review for Nova I said this is a story that could go forever and I still stand by that, there is so much more I need to know and it's impossible to become bored with the trials and tribulations of the Jameson's.Please let there be more, I for one will be waiting!

By andrea turner **** Hands Down One Of My Favorite Dark Series ****Aven Jayce has done it again with her twisted mind!!!We met Mark Jameson in the NOVA Series. If you have not read it please do!!! Even though this series can be read by itself, it's better to start from the beginning. Over the last two weeks I have been reading Nova, and then Jameson Hotel. This crew is something else, get ready to ride on the crazy Effie train. Your mind will be blown by these series.Mark Jameson is Paul son, and was used and abused by the sick S.O.B. He open his hotel to get away from city living. But trouble always knows where to find you. Mark must protect what means the most to him~ his family. But to do that he is going to have to go to the depth of hell to do it. He's a twisted man, but sexy as sin. Mark is a Jameson through and through. The only thing is, I think he's the light in that darkened family. He may be twisted, but his morals are good. Julia is a sassy little minx that takes over Mark's thoughts, and body. She is a feisty woman that won't take Mark's crap, and I think he has met his match. I really want to say more about these two but I won't.All I know is you would be crazy to not get both Series. I can't wait until November for Part Two to come out. I'm having some serious withdrawals right now, I need to know what happens!!!!

I once even had the role playing game and I was hoping that a movie or video game would surface. But its never happened to my dissappointment. I really do hope to see something like that in the future. I mean its 2016 almost and Im getting too old to be waiting around like this.

The author is a retired military policeman as well as a retired minister from Pennsylvania now residing in Florida. He also is my first cousin. This was a fictional mystery but really has a lot of parallels to this author's life. I highly recommend reading this book if you want to understand a minister's thinking process. This book actually made me realize that they are not any less of a sinner than me or anybody else. I could not put this book down and read it in one day. It kind of reminded me of Indiana Jones and what he went through. I am sure Jeff has a lot more to share with his life experiences and I can't wait to read them.

Not at all what you would expect from the title so be prepared. Pastor Jeff gets himself involved in some messes, some of which are quite comical and others down right scary! His take on story telling is quite entertaining and I can picture him and the other characters quite clearly. Read the teaser for his second book and I think it will be even better. Good job Pastor Jeff !!!

Pure Alpha male at it's best. He was deadly honest and he commanded attention. But he also had a heart full of love and didn't realize it. He finally in the end faced his demons and still came out as that Alpha male. Whew, love love, love Sherita and Desmond together. By far the best Champion story in my book. Can't wait to catch up with the Champion family in book 4!

Bryant Where I enjoyed all the Champion brothers and the way they expressed their love Desmond just seemed more realistic!! I enjoy a book where I can really relate!! Desmond is 80% of the mean that I've interacted with in life!! But to see that playboy tamed was a great story!! I kept waiting on Thane to resurface it's almost like he went away to quietly!! Is he going to resurface in 4???

Calypso is an ‘original’, older than the Gods of Olympus, more powerful than ever they imagined, with a penchant for bad subterfuge, her pet shark Bruce and an insatiable curiosity.A giant toddler at times, Calypso’s desire for Hades and to learn about all things sex bring the two into close proximity, and the battle for who reigns supreme in their relationship is a wild ride. Through it all, we get to see the insecurities that they both have, the not particularly likeable Hermes, Zeus and Demeter, learn about the perennially spoilt Persephone and the jealous Poseidon. Even more fun to meet are Artemis and the goddess of Justice who has a passion for loud music and dancing. These characters all met and conflict in varying ways, not unlike a family with petty jealousies, hurts, prejudices and agendas.But, as she works to discover who is behind the plot to frame Hades, and just where Persephone is being held, Calypso comes to discover her true need for the relationship and companionship that he has brought. With several clever and unique creatures, great dialogue and some steamy moments this story was a quick and clever read, with plenty of promise for more.I received an eArc copy of the title from the author for purpose of honest review. At first I was hesitant with the pairing of calypso and Hades but after getting into the book a couple chapters kit could be no other way! Calypso it so bold and commanding but at the same time all awkward and unsure of herself and what she's doing at times. The things this girl says will have you laughing you butt off. Then we have Hades who, well you know it's Hades. He's a dark mysterious sexy beast. I've always loved Hades, to me he was the best of all the Greek gods and goddesses. I mean c'mon! It takes someone completely amazing and bad ass to control the underworld and all that goes with it. Anywho, Hades is taking a lot of heat from the other gods over something he may have or may not have done. Calypso sees an opportunity and takes it. There's a lot to love with this story and it really will leave you wanting the next one right away. And to end this review.... Carrots.

Overpowering child-like heroine and while the rest of the cast were a bit bland, except for a few... I say the heroine is child-like but there are a few instances when she reminds me of a good nature, fun loving grandmother, my only problem is that about eighty percent of the time it feels like I'm reading the story of a teen rather than an entity that has existed for centuries. I get that she only recently began living a human-like life and all but this feels more like a teenager's exploration into sexhood... Anyways, the story and characters have a funny/nice twist and it was a fun story to read...
