He wrote several serious tombs as well as fiction. The Father Brown series is of course one of his fiction endeavors. If you like mysteries, lighthearted story telling or both, than you will enjoy this book. This Kindle download contains the entire collection of short stories that are the Father Brown Mysteries, and therefore is a bargain. Chesterton was a brilliant writer and thinker, and this is a great introduction to him.

Shockingly good By Bemused Prof Owning a Kindle has gotten me into re-reading 19th Century books, and I am often a bit surprised at how stilted they are in style, not quite what I remembered from my youth. I paid a few pennies for this book, still only 90 or so years old, and was shocked by how up to date it all sounded. Great mysteries and little plots. Of course, anyone who grew up on Agatha Christie knows how racist and anti-Semitic the educated British class could be in those days, and there are some pretty jarring notes here as well. But keeping in mind that I am old and retired, and these stories were written 20 or more years before I was born, I was fascinated, amused, and felt it was a great expenditure of less money than a pack of gum costs me today.
