Jack North, AKA the Flag, was the world’s foremost superhero, a symbol of hope and stability for a world tottering dangerously on the brink of a third World War. When he dies unexpectedly, his legacy falls to his son Marcus–including the Eye of Horus, an ancient artifact long believed to be the source of the Flag’s tremendous power. Marcus soon finds that everyone, from his fellow heroes to the Pentagon, want to control the Eye for their own reasons. But there are other forces at work in the universe, forces as old as the Eye itself. Caught up in a cosmic power struggle, Marcus embarks on a mythic odyssey that takes him to the lost city of Heraklion and beyond. But what does the enigmatic John Law want with the Eye of Horus? Can the lovely Princess Ana of Heraklion be trusted? And will Marcus forge his own path, or is his fate inexorably entwined with The Eye of Horus?

Burns If you are already familiar with the books of the "Grapple Gun Universe", this latest installment will feel both familiar and fresh. If this is your first visit to GGU, strap in for a great read. What Rohlin and Feehan have done so brilliantly with 'Eye of Horus' is to take everything which readers already know about the GGU (if I may) and blown it up in terms of size and scope. At the same time, they have managed to package the narrative in such a way that any new reader shouldn't feel in any way 'lost' or at a disadvantage by not having read the previous books. Rather, any hints to other characters and events should only serve to whet the appetite to delve deeper into the other books. In 'Eye of Horus', we primarily follow Marcus North, aka 'Victory' as he discovers the secrets of an ancient artefact left behind by his late father. The Eye of Horus, an amulet ancient beyond guessing, which confers to its bearer immense power. Naturally, then, are those who wish to have the amulet for themselves, and not necessarily with the betterment of all mankind in their plans.Along the way we are given glimpses into just how large the GGU may be in ways both subtle and sublime. Subtle, such as hints and brief mentions of past events and characters which have had a profound impact on the shaping of the current world; sublime, such as Marcus being torn away from the world he knows to places immeasurably distant and thrown to his knees before the feet villains that would not look out of place alongside DC's Darkseid or Marvel's Thanos. Here is a force to be reckoned with, and we are left wondering who can possibly stand against him?Fast, sharp, and a worthy cornerstone of the larger GGU.

By John-Matthew DeFoggi I have had the pleasure of getting to know the gentlemen from Grapple Gun Publishing this year, as well as having them as players in a number of my games. So when I was asked to be a beta reader, to see how Guardians: The Eye of Horus would serve as an introduction to the Grapple Gun Universe, I jumped on the opportunity. I love superhero stories, and their world intrigued me. Turns out, Guardians was a perfect introduction.Guardians: The Eye of Horus is a self-contained story which feels like it is part of the larger narrative of the GGU. I was drawn in to the world, but was not spoon fed details through lengthy ‘idiot-proof’ plot exposition. The GGU is hinted at, casts long shadows over the characters, and looms in the background of the story. Guardians left me with the desire to pick up the other four GGU books (which I am patiently waiting for dead tree versions of), and to run a game of Cypher set in its world. If you are looking for new superhero fiction, check out Guardians: The Eye of Horus.

Another great installment to the Grappling Gun Universe series By Nick Even though it's book 5, I read it right after book 1 of the GGU series, and because of when it happens in the GGU timeline, there wasn't any issue with understanding what was going on. I am simply amazed at how Richard was able to intertwine so many elements of intrigue, redemption, betrayal, hope, and sacrifice into just 120 pages! In addition to all that and the intense plot and action scenes, there is a common theme as several characters struggle to accept their ancestry and find their own identity. I am really looking forward to finding out what happens next when the next book is released!
