MAD Magazine's iconic Spy vs Spy comic strip--now in full color! One of the most celebrated comic strips in MAD's history has a deceptively simple concept: twin spies, one clad in black and the other in white, outdoing each other in elaborately stupid plots to achieve the other's demise. Now, for the first time, MAD presents a new Spy vs Spy anthology celebrating 150 classic adventures in blazing full color.Bonus material created exclusively for this collection includes a foreword by superfan Lewis Black, Sergio Aragonés' illustrated memoir of the Spies' creator, Antonio Prohias, an ode to master cartoonist Peter Kuper, and new interpretations of the Spy characters by 15 acclaimed graphic artists: Orlando Arocena, Peter Bagge, Tom Bunk, André Carrilho, Darwyn Cooke, Evan Dorkin, Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez, Jim Lee, Hermann Mejia, Tony Millionaire, Nathan Sawaya, Yuko Shimizu, Bill Sienkiewicz, Bob Staake, and Rich Webber. Additional special features include dynamic charts and graphs to deconstruct and quantify which spy has "won" the most through the comic strip's volatile history, the most popular weapons and ploys used in the strip, means of death, and more, plus a beautifully printed endpaper featuring David Anson Russo's interactive maze, where readers can play as either white or black spy.

Review "Spy vs Spy is and was the best thing about MAD. With all the new material here, this anthology is a must for anyone who loves Spy vs Spy." - Boing Boing"The new compilation Spy vs Spy: An Explosive Celebration is quite beautiful...and in full color! If you like the art, it's something you've never seen before."- Huffington Post Weird News"[Spy vs Spy: An Explosive Celebration] looks fantastic...can't wait to add it to my library." - Geek Dad"Mad Magazine's new Spy vs Spy book is an homage to its cartoonist creator, and a look at how so little of human nature has changed. The [Spy vs Spy] characters essential satirical utility has survived intact." - Fast Company

About the Author MAD is America's longest running and best-selling magazine with that name. For over 60 years MAD has been synonymous for "excellence in low standards." With its grinning, gapped-toothed idiot mascot, Alfred E Neuman "gracing" its front cover, MAD satirizes politics, celebrities, sports and more in its print and digital editions, and also on its daily humor blog (which is updated daily, hence the term "daily humor blog"). MAD's most legendarily moronic features include Spy vs. Spy, The Fold-in, "A MAD Look at..," Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions and its iconic TV and movie parodies. MAD's contributors - widely known as "Usual Gang of Idiots" - include such notable names Al Jaffee, Sergio Aragones, Peter Kuper, and Tim Carvell - although they wisely prefer to downplay their association with the magazine. Sergio Aragonés is a Spanish/Mexican cartoonist and writer best known for his contributions to MAD Magazine and creator of the comic book Groo the Wanderer. His work has won him numerous awards, most notably the Eisner Award for Groo the Wanderer in 1992. He also received the National Cartoonists Society Comic Book Award for 1986, their Humor Comic Book Award for 1973, 1974, and 1976, their Magazine and Book Illustration Award for 1989, their Special Features Award for 1977, their Gag Cartoon Award for 1983, and their Reuben Award in 1996 for his work on MAD and Groo the Wanderer.

Spy vs. Spy Hardcover Colorized Edition By Bill I used to read Spy vs Spy as a child, probably what helped develop my critical thinking skills during the summer months when the idea of reading something was a million miles away. Anyway, very good book, colorized, gives a little history on the comic strip and the artists involved in creating it and carrying on the legacy of Mr. Prohias.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Must Have for Spy vs. Spy Fans! By Hui Hai Awesome! This is a colorized version of the classic black and white Spy vs. Spy strips. The colorist, Carrie Strachan, has done an amazing job, which I am sure Antonio Prohias would love. Be sure to read the chapter called Coloring Spy vs. Spy Secrets Revealed, which will give you an idea of the amazing process involved in coloring. Absolutely suburb quality printing and binding. This is a must have for all fans of MAD and Spy vs. Spy. Do not pass this by!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. ill advised colorization of historic black and white art By Heggies The colorizaton is really disappointing and distracting. I would personally refer the work presented as it was originally printed. The extra material is quite good, however.

I don't like giving bad reviews but this left me disappointed. The getto vernacular was too much. If I knew I would have to read the n word, mf, the b word and the like through 80% of the book I would not have bothered. The description did not warn you of a cliffhanger either. If it did I definitely would not have bought the book. People around the world see black women as loud, foul mouthed, and sometimes violent. The novel comes off as a black novel with hood wife as the title. I personally do not want to read cliches about black people in general thats why I don't read most African-American novels. These are my opinions only! If you want to read this novel I suggest you read it for free then you can decide whether or not you want to purchase it for your library.

17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Fuming over yet another surprise cliffhanger By Amazon Customer Normally I don't write awful reviews. This would have gotten even fewer stars had the story been worse. To begin with I thought the story was a good one. I enjoyed the characters and pacing, etc. I didn't even mind the language so much. Different than my usual fare but it worked for the characters. Pissed as hell at Cairo and wondering wtf Audrielle was waiting for with her ex. Now for the part that had me FUMING: the book is a cliffhanger! No warning in the description, no word when the next part will be out just BOOM: to be continued!!! I. Was. FURIOUS!!! I am so sick of damn cliffhangers and authors not writing the complete book that it's beginning to put me off interracial romance altogether. Like seriously. Not every damn story has to come with a "tune in next time"! The only place I have to deal with this kind of crap is in the African American section. What? Are we incapable of writing an entire story before publishing? Do we have to be nickled and dimed? I would really like to see this cliffhanger trend disappear never to return. I'm happy to pay a higher price and read the entire story start to finish than have to wait around for parts 2 through 10 dribbled out over the months. By the time some of them are finished I've lost interest in the story/characters - regardless of how good the story started out - and couldn't care less how it ends. Oh, yeah and please get a good editor to proof your work so the job doesn't fall to the readers. And no, this isn't just about this one book/author though it still applies to the title in question to a degree. Some parts were a little confusing due to lack of good editing.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. NOOOOOOO.... By Amazon Customer I promise, in my mind, that's exactly what I said. Why'd ya have to leave me hanging like that? Cairo is the bomb.com, but the way he got played does not go with his character. I certainly hope he redeems himself on the next book. I have a love/hate relationship with Audri. I wish she would open her mouth and speak when it matters most...I enjoyed this book, but can't stand the cliffhanger.

This is just a sham for someone to make a buck, literally, at the expense of children, no less. The cover states there is a recipe and activities inside. NOPE! Nothing. Spend your money on books that actually have illustrations, is that is what you want.

14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Warning: Not the Book Advertised By Susan D. I am reviewing the digital copy of this book, but I also own the hard copy. Actually, I own several hard copies because this is hands down my favorite children's chapter book from my youth and I love giving it away. I bought this digital copy, hoping that it would be as good as the original since so many children today prefer to read on their tablets, but I will not be giving this version to anyone. As others have stated, there are none of Tasha Tudor's illustrations, which introduce every chapter in the hard copy edition. Why? Because this is not the book advertised. This is the original and no longer under copyright edition with a few (very few) illustrations by Charles Robinson. You can get it for free on Amazon without illustrations, which would be a better deal than this rip-off copy. If I could give zero stars, I would. One last thing, the bonus recipe and activities are not included. Understandable since what you get is not the book advertised.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Unlock the door By Quill A true classic, yes, particularly with the Tasha Tudor illustrations--and please make sure to avoid any abridged editions. Ms. Burnett's tale of two unhappy, neglected children and one well-loved one is dreamy and beautiful. It includes a heroine with spunk and gorgeous descriptions of the Yorkshire countryside. That said, this book includes very prejudiced views of Indians and India, and while they are a child's POV and (unfortunately) culturally historical, any adult giving or reading this book to a child should preface it with an explanation of how such views are very wrong.

Flash Gordon Volume 4: The Storm Queen of Valkir, by Don Moore

About the Author Don Moore was the writer of the Flash Gordon, taking over scriptwriting duties from strip creator Alex Raymond in August 1935. Moore was a former pulp editor. Raymond was the creator of several strips at the time; Flash Gordon, Secret Agent X-9, Jungle Jim; and needed Moore's scripting assistance. Moore lasted on the strip beyond Raymond's tenure Austin Briggs (August 9, 1908 – October 10, 1973) After working for a while at advertising agency, he became an assistant to the cartoonist Alex Raymond on Flash Gordon and succeeded him on Secret Agent Corrigan. In 1940 he drew a Flash Gordon Daily strip which he stayed on until about 1944. He drew the prestigious Flash Gordon Sunday strip from 1944 until 1948He was one of the founding faculty for the Famous Artists School. In 1969 he was elected to the Society of Illustrators’ Hall of Fame.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. It is about time… By Wallace Harrington Without a doubt, Alex Raymond’s Flash Gordon strip is a classic. It came at a time when illustrators like Foster, Sickles, Caniff, Godwin and Salinas were at the height of their game and people dutifully followed the newspaper day-to-day (or Sunday-to-Sunday) to read the adventures of their favorite hero. Today, we have to rely on reprints to find these wonderful stories. The thing is, there have been many, many reprints of the Raymond Sundays. In 1971, Nostalgia Press began publishing several excellent volumes of the Sundays first in black and white and then color. In 1990. Kitchen Sink redid the whole process. More recently, in 2011, IDW began publishing the Definitive Flash Gordon hardcovers. So, Raymond’s version of Flash is well covered from 1934-1944. In 2003, Dark Horse began reprinting the nearly 20 years of Mac Raboy’s work on Flash Gordon (1948-1967) in four books. What has long been missing is the four years from 1944-48 drawn by another accomplished illustrator, Austin Briggs. Those episodes have rarely been collected and this volume finally brings together all of Briggs’ stories together in one place... save the first story in the last Titan volume (and volume 4 of the IDW series). The stories themselves were not high literature. More often than not, they involved Flash landing in some new kingdom of Mongo during his quest (during these years) to battle Kang, the son of the emperor Ming who Flash vanquished in earlier stories. Invariably, along the way, Flash encountered beautiful Queens (who first fall in love with him, making Dale jealous) or egotistical Kings fearful that Flash will usurp them. They then imprisoned him, pitted him against strange alien creatures, threatened his life, put him through a deadly trial or two and then Flash is either released or escaped to move on to the next adventure. One interesting thing in these stories is Kang's development of an "atomic weapon'. Done in 1946, this has to be inspired by the first atomic bombs, and when Flash explodes them he warns soldiers to avoid the deadly radiation.Regardless of the stories, the high point of this book is the art. As the strip developed from 1944-1948, you see that Briggs art got stronger and stronger and arguably proved to be a more than able replacement for Raymond. In fact, Briggs work was popular enough that when Raymond returned from serving in the Marines after WWII, he was not asked to return to Flash; instead Briggs continued Flash and Raymond created Rip Kirby – another classic. From the notes, this book was compiled from proof sheets of the strip and while published to scale at 10 x 7" (w x h) these are smaller than originally published in the newspaper (14 x 10") and do not fill the page, leaving a 1.5” border at the top and bottom of each page . Sadly, those are my two complaints about the volume. To me, a lot of the color obscures the details of the art (I hate to say it, I’d prefer B&W), and the text is small to begin with and difficult for my aging eyes to read; thus 4 stars rather than 5. I realize that the format of these books had already been set with the first three Titan volumes, and to make the pages larger would have required a book about 3” wider, however it sure would have helped the readability of the entire line if that had been done from the start.Regardless, I am very happy Titan finally published this volume (I think it had been cancelled once). It is nice to see Briggs version of Flash! Great art; good fun. And, as I said, it’s about time.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Austin Briggs Takes up the Pen By James Elfers Alex Raymond may never be surpassed as a comic strip illustrator, Austin Briggs, a very talented draftsman occasionally pinch hit for him. When Raymond joined up to fight World War II, Briggs took over the "Flash Gordon" strip full time. This collection is four stars because NO ONE could have filled Raymond's shoes, not even a gifted understudy. The change in artists is noticeable immediately. This is especially true when it comes to how Dale Arden and the other females are drawn. Raymond had a genius for the female form. He also delighted in exposing as much of the strip's heroine's skin as was legally permissible. Gone are the days of Dale exiting bathtubs and being flogged by female baddies. The older Briggs seems uncomfortable with such exposure. Still maintained, however, is the breathtaking scale and spectacle. Mongo looks and feels like a real place. Don Moore continued to write the script so there is no drop off in writing quality. Yes, it is a space opera in all senses of the word. Romance subplots spring up constantly. The strip was designed to appeal to a wide audience, kids, wives, husbands, and teens. The audience for this book no doubt skews male and older, who will find much to enjoy in this collection. The reproduction is beautiful, nicely filling the page and full of all of the lavish original color. If you read volumes 1-3 you MUST own volume four as well. If you have not purchased the previous volumes of this series, this is a wonderful introduction to the magical world of Flash Gordon.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The book is well made. The art wasn't Alex ... By Michael Wenzler The book is well made. The art wasn't Alex Raymond, but it was enjoyable. The plots were... well it was a comic strip from long ago. I'm a fan, but it didn't add much to my knowledge of Flash and the world of Mongo. Dale's jealousy gets old fast.

Corby Mackentile is a fifteen-year-old girl who attends a private school. She has been bullied because of her weight since she was twelve, especially by the most popular girls. Her parents—her mother is a TV anchor and her father is a Buddhist who owns a butcher shop—are too busy with their own problems to pay attention to their only daughter. Corby has a crush on one of the most popular boys in school. He makes fun of her once, but then unexpectedly apologizes. From that moment, her situation with three of the popular girls becomes worse. Then, one day, one of the girls who had bullied Corby comes to the butcher shop where Corby works for her father after school. Again, the girl teases Corby about her weight, but this time everything is different.

Review "The character's were like watching a movie and I just had to keep reading and the suspense was over the top."- (Good reads) "It had me hooked though and I HAD to continue even if I didn't want to. I HAD to see what happened. And so it continued to the end and all I can say it WOW." - Chris (Good reads) "The 1st half was absolutely brilliant." - Nikki (Good reads) "It was a riveting story of bullying and consequences." - Abby (Good reads) "The first part of the book pissed me off as I watched this girl being bullied only because she didn't fit the perfect blueprint of a teenager girl in the eyes of her peers." - J. Kahele (Good reads)  "I didn't know who to sympathize with and what I actually wanted to happen! This book certainly gives one a new outlook on bullying!!!" - Kristine (Good reads)

From the Inside Flap  Corby went to the bathroom, closed herself inside the stall, and began to cry. Only she climbed on the toilet with her legs and cried quietly, so no one would hear. Like she had done many, many times before.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. chilling By Chris I read this and wrote a review immediately after I finished this book a few days ago. Since it hasn't shown up I'm writing another. This book was disturbing...very disturbing...at times I had to put it down...I didn't want to continue to read it and yet, to my surprise, I HAD to continue. I HAD to see what was coming next, what the outcome would be. the author hooked me in and I couldn't let go even though I wanted to. I don't usually read books like this and yet I enjoyed (if one can really say this) it. The author had me riveted to it and I found myself drawn right in. The plot went in a direction I didn't expect and ended in a way that has left me even more disturbed. I found myself surprised in several chapters and chilled to the bone in others

You can't really let it go By Thomas Rosenstand Very good book.I really enjoyed deep character development and twists in the plot.Every time I thought I had the plot figured out I was suprised with new twists. This author really knows how to engage the reader. Even when I put the book down the characters kept playing with my mind. Worth reading!

As I saw my new-born baby’s face for the first time I tried desperately to capture her face in my mind—to stamp it onto my eyelids. As she was taken from me I knew I might never see my daughter again.

37 years later…

‘You were adopted’. Three short words and Sabina’s life fractures. There would forever be a Before those words, and an After.

Pregnant with her own child, Sabina can’t understand how a mother could abandon her daughter, or why her parents have kept the past a secret.

Determined to find the woman who gave her away, what she discovers will change everything, not just for Sabina, but for the women who have loved her all these years.

From the bestselling author of Me Without You comes another touching, beautifully told story about the pain of separation and the enduring strength of love.

54 of 55 people found the following review helpful. When the need to love and nurture meets head-on with Government and Policy and there is no choice but to say good-bye. By Blogging Under the Shade Tree I knew when I accepted the offer to read this book that this would be a read that would require a box of tissue close at hand. I also knew that it would be one that I would identify closely with, as I have personally been in the lives of ladies who have had their babies taken at birth, as well as ladies who were adopted at birth and spent years wondering who their mother was. Yes, I knew the tentacles of emotion would run deep when I opened the first page and started the story. But, I was totally unprepared for the shock blast of the emotional upheaval that I immediately was sucked into with the opening salvo as a joyous event of the announcement of a pregnancy by a young couple to her parents turned into an evening of parental breakdown and disjointed revelations that left Sabina, the young mother-to-be, rushing to the doctor for tests and answers. A second visit and confrontation with the parents a day or two later resulted in an even bigger revelation and a true life shattering announcement that she was not theirs. The story was a slow peeling of the layers of Sabina’s life and at the same time a flash-back to the time of the pregnancy of Sabina’s mother, Lilly, and her experience with the Maternity Home System in Australia. It is also the telling of the same story through the eyes of Sabina’s adoptive mother, Megan, who worked in the system. While a well written story, in its own right, Kelly did a masterful job of providing a snapshot of the devastation that the Maternity Home System had on the lives of so many people, just in the telling of the story of how it affected the lives of these three families and the effects that dominated their lives for forty years because of the policies and conditions of the home.Kelly took the time to not only tell a story that would showcase a cause, but she took the time to develop the characters within her story and breath life into them. You could feel the emotion of the mothers and, on several occasions, I had to set down the book to breath before picking it up to move one again. I was so caught up in the emotion of motherhood, of unborn children, of bonding, of the idea of losing a child at birth – never to see him/her again. The supporting characters were there and played their parts well, but the central characters were almost three-dimensional on the page. You could feel yourself sitting down to tea with them or wanting to reach out and wrap your arms in comfort around them when there was little else you could do.I strongly recommend the reading of this book. It is not an easy read, but it is one that is well worth the effort and time. I would give it a good FOUR STARS as a literary review, but a full FIVE STARS for the moving story effectiveness of content. I loved it. This book was provided to me by Net Galley to read and review.Thank you for taking on such a hard story, Kelly. It was deeply appreciated by this reviewer.

Hockley As an adoptee who has known all along that I was adopted, I just had to read this well written story.Forced adoptions were rife in Australia and only came to light in recent years. The story of Lilly, Megan and Sabina - now 37 and pregnant for the first time, only just learning of her adoption - is heart-wrenching and all too true.Right now on TV there is a series on the forced adoptions called Love Child and every bit of it is authentic. If you have seen the movie, Philomena, you will seethe at the injustice of the religious groups and government organisations who were involved in adoptions. Having read the story of the orphanage where I was parked in 1946 - well, the matron running that place would have had a lot to answer for if she had been alive today.Unfortunately, the revelations of people's original identities have come too late for most adoptees of my generation, but now that the official apology has been given, any adopted child has a right to approach his or her birth parent on reaching the age of 18 - if the parent is agreeable. Likewise, a parent is able to contact their child if the child is agreeable. The story of Lilly, Megan and Sabina is sad but up lifting. I could understand and sympathise with all parties in the "deal," knowing that sometimes reunions do not always pan out amicably. Does Sabina find her birth mother? And does it all work out?You will need to read this interesting and well written novel to find out!

By Becca's Books The Secret Daughter is Kelly Rimmer's second novel with publishers Bookouture. Kelly's first novel with Bookouture, Me Without You, was published back in June 2014, and is one that I haven't yet had the chance to read, but I'm certain that after my experience with The Secret Daughter, I will definitely be treating myself! There is no doubt in my mind that Me Without You will be absolutely saturated with the same effortlessly real emotion that Kelly's second novel is.In The Secret Daughter, Kelly Rimmer masterfully handles a truly tender and moving plot that had the floodgates bursting open. One of the things that I adored most within this book was how it was structured. Rather than taking the reader right the way through Sabina's story of self-discovery in the present day, the reader is swept into the past during a time of great sadness and grief. Not only do we watch this emotional novel unfold from Sabina's first-person narrative, which was completely overwhelming, but we're also invited to watch the past reveal itself first through Lily's letters, and then through Megan's first person perspective, too. I've probably made it sound complicated in my review but I can assure you that this is most definitely not the case. Kelly handles these different times and narratives with excellent ease, and I cannot applaud the author enough on the effect that this had on me as a reader. I believe that when an author takes a reader into the past, something magical happens. Not only are we involved in the story and the characters, but in this novel, we're finding things out before the characters themselves, life-changing things that I sort of felt a bit awful for knowing before the person who these things affected most. This graceful slipping between the past and the present left me breathless, with sadness and disbelief and utter, utter despair, because I knew that past events, no matter how awful, just couldn't be altered. I believe Kelly chose the most effective way to tell this story, the most impassioned, stirring way. What unfolds in this novel is something that I've never experienced first-hand in my own life, but Kelly deals with the situations which arise beautifully. It's a very serious, very delicate subject, and even more so because the main character Sabina has absolutely no idea what it is that's about to unfold when she and husband Ted announce their pregnancy to her parents. It was a shock for me, as the reader, to watch Sabina's life suddenly be tugged from beneath her when just moments ago it had seemed so neat and orderly. Kelly's descriptions of Sabina's emotions captured the sheer distraught and confusion perfectly. Despite having never been in such a situation myself, I did feel as if I were experiencing Sabina's emotions right alongside her. It was a captivating read, filled with a very raw and devastating account of a time gone by, and the consequences from past actions. As I mentioned above, this isn't the type of book that I'd usually go for, but I am so very happy that I did. This tugged my heart in so many directions I'm surprised it didn't tear completely apart in my chest. This novel was over-flowing with realness and selfishness that arises only from love. Kelly really does know how to drag her reader into the story and ensure that they stay there. I couldn't have been more involved if I'd tried. I was desperate to see where the discovery of Sabina's circumstances would take her. Whilst reading in the present day, I was eager to get back to the past to see what happened next and whether it would affect Sabina in the here and now. It did, of course, because every action has a consequence, and these consequences echoed through time, so many years down the line.I adored this novel. Absolutely, 100% adored it. Kelly Rimmer is a beautiful writer and I will definitely be visiting her books again sometime in the near future. The Secret Daughter packed such an emotional, powerful punch, one that I don't think I've felt before that I'll always associate with her novels from now on.Becca's Books is awarding The Secret Daughter by Kelly Rimmer with five of my cupcakes! I believe this stunning story will curl around the hearts of many, and squeeze ever so tightly.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A good read that sticks out from the crowd. By Poison_SHADOW I only know the world of The Witcher from the fantastic video games which based on characters from a series of Polish novels. For that reason, I was afraid that I might pick up this comic and find myself lost in an unfamiliar continuity which skews more towards the novels I've never read than the games. Thankfully this isn't the case. The story follows Geralt of Rivia at an undisclosed time in a seemingly unknown period of his life. He's riding on horseback and comes across an aging hunter alone in the wilderness, and the two men quickly strike up conversation around a campfire while drinking wine. It's a nice, quiet start but not once did I find myself getting bored, particularly once the hunter shares a secret about his troubled wife who is never far from his sight. I don't read much other than the typical comic book superheroics, so this first issue was a great change of pace for me. We are slowly introduced to the world of the supernatural beginning with a tale told by the hunter, and by the end of this issue we are treated to a tense situation without getting beat over the head with action-packed splash pages. The writing is top-notch and the artwork is great, and suitably understated when it needs to be. This is likely the beginning a pretty dark series and the artwork and coloring matches this perfectly. All in all this is a great start for this series, and I feel as though someone without any previous knowledge at all of The Witcher could easily get into it and find a lot to like.

Barton After the events of the first year-plus of the rebooted Legion of Super Heroes I have to admit that this volume is a bit disappointing, but it is tough to top an intergalactic war.The arrival of Supergirl detours the narrative from more Legionnaire-focused episodes to more Supergirl-centric ones while the series lays the ground work for a pair of story arcs involving the Dominators and the Legion of Super Villians. The narrative lull was necessary after the war against Praetor Lemnos and Terror Firma but I came away feeling that Supergirl's inclusion was more gimmick than story-driven.Those complaints aside, I enjoy the pencil-and-ink stylings and the look and feel of this vision of the Legion. This volume is worth getting if you are a Legion fan.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Step Back for the Legion By Kevin M. Derby The "threebooted" version of the Legion of Super-Heroes remains somewhat controversial with the series having both its critics and fans. This collection of comics brings the current incarnation of Supergirl to the 31st century to help the Legion. There are some problems with this--there was little logic to the event besides trying to sell comics. The threebooted Legion was starting to build some chemistry. While there is an attempt here to show how the Legion deals with the loss of a member, when Supergirl comes on the scene, she dominates the narrative and some of the strong characters in the Legion are quickly eclipsed. This is unfortunate to say the least. There is a funny collection of Legion members answering reader mail which should not be missed. While not bad, this collection is a step back for the threeboooted Legion.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Neat ideas, unlikeable characters By Kid Kyoto Since the 50s the Legion of Super-Heroes has been around in one form or another. The core concept is a super powered teens protecting the distant future. In 2004 writer Mark Waid and artist Barry Kitson 'rebooted' the Legion (it's since been rebooted one or two more times) this time envisioning them as teen rebels shaking up a repressed 31st Century. In this book the Legion deals with the death of one of their members and the sudden arrival of the 21st century hero Supergirl. There's certainly potential here but Waid writes the Legion, Supergirl and just about everyone else as completely unlikeable. The Legionnaires are self-righteous bullies causing trouble just for the heck of it. They're followed hoards of idolizing fans who constantly sing the praises of the Legion but get little or nothing in return. The government of the 31st century is an absurdly over the top repressive state that genetically reprograms young people to behave. Supergirl upon arriving decides that this cannot be real and must be a dream. In short we have obnoxious heroes, an evil government and a delusional guest star. And I had no one to sympathize with. The only bright spots were Barry Kitson's art which is always a pleasure and the illustrated 'letter columns' in the back. In them the Legionnaires answer reader questions in character with humor and wit. They're far more likeable there than they are in the actual stories.I picked up several second-hand volumes of the Waid Kitson run recently but I have to say if I'd paid full price for this I would not have come back for more.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Must have for parents and professionals By Schayna L Peterson This book is a pretty easy read with a great deal of clear examples. As a social worker, I have been able to assist families I work with by suggesting these parenting skills as well as recommending this book to them. Ruth Fett is able to explain not only the need for structure but ways to create structure while also adjusting the strategies for their children at different developmental periods/ages. These strategies are quite effective in working with "challenging/difficult children" by empowering the parent and therefore the children.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Very Helpful Book By Cindy I found this book to be very helpful. The book gives useful information of what TO DO with children. I have read several parenting books and they are full of information about why children might be how they are but they rarely give useful strategies of what to do when faced with misbehavior. This book gives actual strategies and information of what to do with children who have behavioral challenges and explains why those strategies work.It is also a fairly easy read. Its quick and to the point which is great because I don't always have a lot of time on my hands.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Applicable Parenting Resource By Melissa "Ten Daily Questions to be a Better Parent" is a must read for everyone. As a mother of young children, and a counselor to adolescents, I found this book applicable to both my personal and professional roles. This a quick read, with a summary and clear examples at the end of each section. I find myself referring to the Parents' Daily 10 Questions Checklist every day, multiple times a day, both at home and work. The book has taught me that it is not about changing or controlling the youth, but rather improving myself and being a better teacher, mentor and role model for children of any age.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Curious By Amazon Customer Well, no doubt, from the beginning, this Alessio guy is kind of scary, but in a hot way. Certainly this young lady is caught off guard! Automatically you want more. Can hardly wait for the rest! No slow trickle to the passion just jump right in; I like where this is going!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Erotic short By Kindle Customer I was expecting more of full length book, not short. I love mafia romance, but because it's so short this is more like a mini-erotica story. It was cute and short and it was too short for character development or a good back story.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. So far, so good! By LauriiCav Arranged marriage? No complaints with Alessio! He took control right away, and Sofia loved it. Exciting (and passionate) start, I want the next! Sucks you in right away.

Gerontakis I was fortunate to have found this book for my niece who was really going through a difficult time during puberty and was falling apart between her hormones and her relationship with her parents. After reading this book she called all excited telling me that it was the best gift i could have gotten her. My sister( her mother) also read the book and found it very detailed, informative and helpful. I am so glad I purchased it and I recommend it to parents, teenagers and school teachers!!!

Very nice book and my brother's daughter very like it By Corwin Terry I bought this book for my brother's daughter and she told me that she really love this book. Because she learned how to communicate with her parents and friends better. She now understand herself better in terms of social skills, punctuality issues and personality. She do specially mentioned about the very useful Q&A section that she like the most. So I think this is a very useful book for all the female teenagers.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. OMG! It's not just for teens! By Katarína King Man, I wish I had this book growing up--it would've made my life so much easier. Every important question that a teen will have (i.e. Why can't I control my emotions? Why can't I make friends? Why are my parents annoying? and even more embarrassing questions) is answered here. I loved how casual and conversational the writing is. Teens will definitely connect with the author. It's so important for teens to have the right guidance as this period is the most pivotal part of their lives in terms of development, self-image, self-confidence. Oh, and let me tell you, even if I'm not a teen, I did learn a handful of lessons about myself. With so many issues concerning teens, such as bullying, mental illness, and family problems, it's good to know that books like these exist.
