This is just a sham for someone to make a buck, literally, at the expense of children, no less. The cover states there is a recipe and activities inside. NOPE! Nothing. Spend your money on books that actually have illustrations, is that is what you want.

Actually, I own several hard copies because this is hands down my favorite children's chapter book from my youth and I love giving it away. I bought this digital copy, hoping that it would be as good as the original since so many children today prefer to read on their tablets, but I will not be giving this version to anyone. As others have stated, there are none of Tasha Tudor's illustrations, which introduce every chapter in the hard copy edition. Why? Because this is not the book advertised. This is the original and no longer under copyright edition with a few (very few) illustrations by Charles Robinson. You can get it for free on Amazon without illustrations, which would be a better deal than this rip-off copy. If I could give zero stars, I would. One last thing, the bonus recipe and activities are not included. Understandable since what you get is not the book advertised.

Ms. Burnett's tale of two unhappy, neglected children and one well-loved one is dreamy and beautiful. It includes a heroine with spunk and gorgeous descriptions of the Yorkshire countryside. That said, this book includes very prejudiced views of Indians and India, and while they are a child's POV and (unfortunately) culturally historical, any adult giving or reading this book to a child should preface it with an explanation of how such views are very wrong.
