About the Author Paul Shaffer has a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina. He has worked with adults, couples, families, and children as a professional counselor for 30 years. At present, he continues in private practice in Huntersville, NC. The practice is called Right Choices Counseling. This is his fifth book.

Good Advice for Singles By Sarah Bolme In “The Top 10 Dating Essentials”, Paul Shaffer has provided good advice to singles that are in the dating process. He starts with making sure that you are healthy and moves from there to understanding the mythology of love and knowing what to judge in making good relationship decisions. I especially liked that he covered boundaries and the issue that too many single people don’t take the time to go through the stages of dating to get to know each other. Rather they jump too quickly into an intense, exclusive relationship before they have taken the time to really know the person they are dating and judge the right things. One thing I think was missing from the book is a list of warning signs to look out for in terms of domestic violence. In my experience, many young singles don’t know these warning signs and sometimes find themselves entangled in relationships that are unhealthy and even dangerous. Overall, this is a great book for any single person involved in dating. I especially recommend it for young adults.

Young adults reading this will be armed with important information to help them make important decisions about their dating relationship before the relationship gets to the “in-love” stage when decision making skills are likely to be cloudy. The book identifies key aspects in assessing another person’s character and other important factors to consider in dating to help decide if the relationship should continue. All relationships are complex and multi-dimensional; young adults are still learning how to navigate life and relationships complexities and this book does a nice job of talking about important relationship aspects in an easy to read & understand manner.

Swiss army knife for anyone in a relationship By GENE HAAS This book is both a reality check for those dating and a Swiss army knife for anyone in a relationship. It is a great guide to enjoyable dating and growing a healthy relationship. Read and apply this book and you will have gained the equivalent of years of trial and error learning in relationship without all the pain that comes with learning the hard way.As a therapist I will recommend this book to both singles and to couples that want to grow toward a healthy relationship.Gene Haas MA, LPA
