They have always been entertaining and a good read. This book was more like a history of France copied from an encyclopedia. Way too much was in French without a good translation. I like my mysteries cozy, humorous, and easy reads. This book was none of those. I had to make myself finish it. I was left with a sense of sadness and general dissatisfaction. If you are expecting an easy cozy read skip this book.

This is my first "Lucy Stone" mystery - - but it won't be my last. I thought this was a delightful book and it kept me entertained. Yes, it was a bit far-fetched at times and there were way too many convenient excuses, but the book doesn't claim to be War and Peace - - it's a cozy mystery! The characters for the most part were believable and likeable and there was a good cross-section of personalities. In fact there were so many totally different personalities that I wondered at times how these people were all friends.I look forward to reading more by this author. It's good escapism!

It left me with a sort of dark, sad feeling. I felt the portrayal of the French people was a bit unfair, parts of the storyline seemed forced and Lucy's actions were unrealistic and seemed to contradict themselves at time. Uggg, and the ending (which was actually a bit predictable) was completely hokey. Stick with Tinker's Cove!
