About the Author
Dalton Fury was the senior ranking military officer at the Battle of Tora Bora. As a Delta troop commander, he helped author the operation to hunt and kill Osama Bin Laden. 32 of 35 people found the following review helpful. What happened to this author?? By Mapwhap I was SO looing forward to this book that I pre-ordered it, which is something I never do. What a huge let-down this book was compared to the other two novels in this series.Firstly, the editing of this book was atrocious. Whoever Dalton Fury has hired to proof read his material needs to go find another job. The LAST thing I expect in a novel by a former Delta operator is technical innaccuracy, yet that's exactly what I got here. Want an example, Mr. Fury? Please explain to me what a "sunken chest wound" is. I know what this is SUPPOSED to be....a "sucking chest wound". Yet, on every single occasion where this term was presented (at least two seperate incidents in the novel) it is referred to as a "sunken chest wound". Really? That's what you pay your editors for? And that's only one example of numerous editing and proofreading errors that I caught along the way.Secondly, while the plot itself was very plausible, the way the story was laid out and told was.....and I can't believe I'm about to say this....BORING! There were very few action set-pieces, they were very badly written, and they just devolved into dull nonsense.Lastly, the whole feel of this book was just OFF. I don't need to be told in every other paragraph how the protagonist needs to accomplish the mission to save the world. I just want to read about him actually doing it. It honestly felt like Dalton Fury didn't write this book. Either that, or he didn't write the first two, and decided to write this one himself. I don't know which, but the writing, the pacing and the entire layout of this book was just BAD. The way some of the chapters just ended, and then the following chapter would start later in the story and then backfill was really annoying, too.I'm sorry, but I was extremely disappointed with this chapter in the Kolt Raynor story. Mr. Fury....you have a deep hole to dig yourself out of on this one. You get a pass with me because the first two novels were really good, but if the fourth one is as bad as this one, I'm done.
6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. The first two books were better By JEM7777 I read all the previous books by Mr. Fury and I enjoyed them tremendously. This one I did not like as much. I felt that it was monotonous and at times it was too convoluted to follow up. I know the author knows his stuff and the research for each book is fantastic. But, goodness gracious, there was so much detail that, to me, they seem to detract from the plot. I though I had skipped pages on a few occasions because the action ended so abruptly. But, I am looking forward to the next book.

Going backwards By Shaun Blake From his previous books, I had identified with the character of Kolt, his strengths and deficiencies - but this eagerly awaited novel is a disappointment. Kolt is still there, but the craft of writing demands that the background to the main event also receives attention from the writer. In this instance one feels that the plot dictates the lead-up, rather than the lead-up resulting in the unfolding of the plot. Big gaps in the storyline. Big gaps in the overall 'emotion' of the story. Contrived and hastily executed 'action' shots - barely believable transition from Delta to this new shadowy organisation - this lacks plausibility - even on a fascile level. It is almost as if the Author has been required or mandated to produce X number of books within a specified time limit.I didn't finish the book [got 2/3rds of the way through] - very disappointing... because there was so much promise in the earlier novels.
