Dutiful daughter Faith Baxendale just wants to please. Faith isn’t as adventurous as her younger sister, Hope, gadding about the Continent with their aunt, nor as rebellious as her elder sister, Honor, who planned to become a card sharp. And Faith couldn’t lose herself in her art like sixteen-year-old, Charity. Even Mercy, at fourteen, shows more backbone! After Faith’s first Season ends, her father urges her to marry the man of his choice. But when Lord Vaughn Winborne, a neighbor Faith had a crush on while still in the schoolroom, arrives home for the Brandreth’s hunt ball, surprising even to herself, Faith is drawn again towards a man her father would never consider. The youngest Brandreth male, Vaughn, is the black sheep of the family. His elder brother, Chaloner, Marquess of Brandreth, still looks upon him as a reckless youth, and Vaughn is determined to prove him wrong. A chance comes in the form of a scandal not of Vaughn’s making, and he must learn to trust Faith, who, when all’s said and done, has always known her own mind.

After Faith's first Season ends, her father urges her to marry the man of his choice. But when Lord Vaughn Winborne, a neighbor Faith had a crush on while still in the schoolroom, arrives home for the Brandreth's hunt ball, surprising even to herself, Faith is drawn again towards a man her father would never consider. The youngest Brandreth male, Vaughn, is the black sheep of the family. His elder brother, Chaloner, Marquess of Brandreth, still looks upon him as a reckless youth, and Vaughn is determined to prove him wrong. A chance comes in the form of a scandal not of Vaughn's making, and he must learn to trust Faith, who, when all's said and done, has always known her own mind.I found this book to be a charming book with just a few surprises. It was enjoyable although somewhat predictable. Both main characters, had their POV's shared in a way that flowed smoothly. Faith has seen herself as being in love with Vaughn for years. Her love for him began as a young girl, when he helped her down from a tree. Even though she hadn't seen him in awhile, the attraction is still there when she sees him again. Her father's pressure to marry has brought many suitors to her door to ask for her hand. She keeps saying "no" which causes more tension at home with her father.Let me just highlight a few of the things that they were facing:Problem #1-Faith wants to marry for love, but isn't too sure how long she has before she might be forced to choose a man without being in love with him. Problem #2-As time goes on, Vaughn is drawn more and more to Faith but knows there is no way her father would ever approve their match. Vaughn's not even sure she loves him. Problem #3- Vaughn's inheritance is being held up by his eldest brother. Problem #4 A villain who has been lurking in the back ground is still stalking Faith. There are other things going on with both of the families which add to the story.I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the second story in the Baxendale Sisters series and can be read as a stand alone. Now that her half sister, Honor, has married and settled down, Lady Faith is now being pressured by her father to find a husband. But, Faith has only ever loved one man...Vaughn Winborne. The problem is, Vaughn is a rogue, a man with a cash flow problem and a bad reputation. So, this puts him off the table as far as Faith's father is concerned. While Faith is loathe to marry a man she does not love, it appears she may have no other choice because her father has run out of patience with her constantly turning away suitors. Are Faith and Vaughn destined to be star crossed lovers or will fate intervene and save the day? This is a novella length story, so it would be a great book to read on your lunch break. The set up was a bit lengthy and the story started to drag around the midway point, and I was starting to wonder if anything more interesting was going to happen and if so, could we please get on with it. I have to say I was surprised by the developments that took place in the last few chapters. Suddenly, the predictable tried and true historical romance trope changed over to one of fast paced danger and intrigue. The underlying theme is “love at first sight” and even if you don't think it's real, this story may give you pause, because Lady Faith has loved Vaughn since she first laid eyes on him and even though she tried to put him out of her mind and convince herself her feelings for him were just “a crush”, the heart clearly thought otherwise.I enjoyed the banter between Faith and Vaughn, which was sharp, witty and at times poignant. These two have a wonderful chemistry between them, and I loved their unconventional HEA.Overall, this is a delightful and fun romance and a pleasant light read. 3.5 stars

Andersen writes a lovely character: full of heart and emotion By Gaele I’ve read a couple of titles from Maggi Andersen, but the Baxendale sisters are new to me. Faith is the ‘dutiful’ sister, often feeling uninspired and uninspiring around her sisters that are more daring, dramatic, artistic or even more self-centered. You can’t help but like Faith, she wants to please her parents, but she also wants something more. She’s just not completely certain that she deserves, or can reach for it.As a girl in a family of them, there isn’t time or patience for extended seasons with no clear choice of husband, and Faith’s father isn’t willing to let her chances pass her by. He’s made his choices clear, and the suitor he has chosen as appropriate is just not what she wants. The annual Brandreth Hunt Ball brings a chance for another option in Vaughn, the younger brother of the Marquis, Vaughn has always been the black sheep: not in direct ascendant line, Faith knows that the object of her crush of many years would never be acceptable to her father.A lovely and sweet romance, this fast paced novella gives Faith some of the daring, adventure and backbone she fears were sorely lacking in her flirtation soon to be romance with Vaughn. Their interactions are lovely, and both characters grow and develop with the support of one another to become more than their familial reputations, even more than they expected from themselves.Andersen writes a lovely character: full of heart and emotion with some growth to discover their true selves and feelings as they work their way through obvious and not so obvious obstacles. Secondary characters add depth and contrast, while a touch of humor and insets of description and etiquette obeyed or flaunted keep the story firmly grounded in its time.I received an eArc copy of the title from the author via Tasty Book Tours for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility
