The Tao of who? The how of what? The Tao of Da-da! In which it is revealed that one of the world's great faux-Taoist parenting masters isn't Chinese, or a venerable philosopher -- or even conscious -- but is in fact none other than that effortfully calm, barely living, and marginally reflective award-winning parenting bloggist, A Man Called Da-da (aka, Gary Clemenceau)! Glimpse the secret parenting wisdom of The TAO of Da-da: Empty your mind of all thoughts / Like you had any left? Let your heart be at peace / but try to stay conscious. Watch the turmoil born of Small Beings / but only contemplate using the duct tape... The Tao of Da-da marries a haggard dad's hilarious, self-deprecating view of his own role with The TAO te Ching, along with select funniness from his award-winning parenting-humor-and-horror blog "Triumph of a Man Called Da-da." In truth, every day you survive as a parent is atriumph, and somewhere in there is The Way, or The TAO of Da-da.

Review "...like Steve Martin and Jim Gaffigan re-wrote the Tao te Ching. Very creative. This book could really go somewhere." ~NumbersGuy"Someone should talk Da-da into making an audiobook of this. He's got a great FM-radio voice." ~Jeff Lucere "The Tao of Da-Da (that can be told) is not the eternal Tao, but it teaches that if being a stay-at-home dad is making you crazy, you are not alone; and with the correct attitude, right mind, and the willingness to catch someone else's barf, you are on the rewarding and entertaining path to enlightenment and grey hair. The Tao of Da-da is hilarious, thoughtful, and I highly recommend it." ~K.M. Smith

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. surreal, yet charming By Chris Savia Acquainted with Da-da's work at his website, acquiring a copy of The Tao of Da-da was a no brainer. In 265 pages, he establishes himself as a man of erudation drawing upon the oeuvre of T.S. Eliot, the Tao Te Ching, pop culture, while embracing twenty-first century ennui of a stay at home dad. His Tao sparkles with enlightenment, each glimpse urging the reader to turn the page for the next piquant insight. Nearly every stanza, song parody, and freeform fiction (don't forget to take his trench test on page 185!) is accompanied by surreal images of Bronko and Nagurski, weird collages and still lifes of the clutter and moments of parenthood, charming and disturbing in the same breath. On the surface Gary's pseudonym embodies the mission of the eponymous art movement, yet the narratives suggest a method behind his madness. The Tao of Da-da is not a heavy read like Tolstoy, but he plays with Leo's themes regarding the irrationality of human motivations, and embodies Hugo's maxim "Every man who writes, writes a book; this book is himself" An odd book from a strange man with curiously compelling insights, even for the child-free, on the madness and love of parenting.

By Kent Smith There was a young Da-Da named GaryWho thought having kids would be scary. He became a parental ontologist,a domestic anthropologist (with a live in psychologist),and a better writer than Chazz Palminteri! The Tao of Da-Da (that can be told) is not the eternal Tao, but it teaches that if being a stay-at-home dad is making you crazy, you are not alone; and with the correct attitude, right mind, and the willingness to catch someone else's barf, you are on the rewarding and entertaining path to enlightenment and grey hair. The Tao of Da-da is hilarious, thoughtful, and I highly recommend it.

But that is only part of it, the pictures are wonderful, funny, touching and insane. A glimpse into real parenting. The songs in the back and extra material, which is at least half the book is hysterical. This book could really go somewhere.
