For instance, why Nick and Luca didn't like each other, how the sting operation was set up and what happened during and afterwards. I hate guessing so I'd like to know. Did Hal's family meet Ellie? How did the meeting go with Hal meeting Ethan. These little details matter to me as I like to know. I feel without them the story really lacks the depth. Will the other shifters have their own story and if so will it tie into this one? Also, if Catalina is her best friend, why was she not at the court? Did Hal's team testify against Nagle's gang and detective Kramer? There's so much I like to know. I get it's a shirt romance but please, give us more! I love the action and adventure but MORE would be great.I gave it three stars because of the missing details. I think if a revised version was written , the story longer and more detailed I would gladly give it a better rating
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Great start to series sweet story By Snowbunny1977 Really enjoyed this book and its gonna make a great series. Hal is a were-bear and a bodyguard. He's head of his agency Protection Inc. who is made up of other shifters. Nick, a wolf shifter, Shane, a panther, Lucas, a dragon, Rafa, a lion shifter, Fiona, the snow leopard, and Destiny, the tiger. Great team and they all trust Hal and he trusts them with his life. Ellie is a paramedic and saw a murder which was ordered by the cities "godfather" so thats not good. She doesnt want witness protection so opts for someone protecting her hence Hal takes the gig which he figures out instantly shes his mate. Hal's really sweet and genuinely a good guy. He was also a Navy Seal a few years back. What surprised me by his character is bears are usually really alpha types and domineering and that just wasn't him. Normally, it would sorta ruin a story but he STILL can be alpha when needed and he protects her so thats why this worked so well. I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet this story was but not. I enjoyed very much and HIGHLY recommend. Can't wait for the next to come out. I'd like to see either Rafa or Nick next but any of them would be awesome. Gotta love those girls too and they need a story too.

Color me impressed! Where in the world has this author been hiding? Chant is a remarkably talented author; I can't believe I haven't heard of her before now! This may have been my first time reading Zoe Chant's work but it certainly won't be my last! This story grabbed my attention right out of the gate and held my interest completely from beginning to end! The narrative is extremely well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed and flows effortlessly. The entire book is well crafted and exceptionally well edited. The characters are captivating, intriguing, engaging, endearing and most definitely swoon-worthy. The story is exciting, fast-paced, action-filled, seductive and romantic. And did I mention hot? No? Well, it's hot! Chant skillfully combines these elements into a delightfully entertaining paranormal romance filled to the brim with heart-stopping danger, spine-tingling suspense, heart-pounding adventure, heated attraction, fiery passion, sweet romance, a dash of humor and a little old fashioned bear bonding. What didn't I love about this story? Not a darn thing!Bear shifter and former Navy Seal Hal Brennan is satisfied with his life. Unfortunately, his parents are not! The woman he needs to protect is his mate! Oh my! And his bear fully intends to claim her - that is, after he breaks the news that he's a bear shifter! Oh, and if he can keep her alive! Oh my goodness!Beautiful paramedic Ellie McNeil is definitely having a bad day or rather a bad night. Working the graveyard shift is always hard but working on very little sleep, only makes it more difficult. Unfortunately, the attempt on her life and the murder she just witnessed in the alley while responding to a call certainly doesn't help! And, as if things couldn't get any worse, she learns that one of the two men she saw committing the crime was none other than the Godfather of the crime world in Santa Martina. Huh? Oh my! Could her life get any more complicated? Yes, it could - it really could! In order to stay alive long enough to testify, she would now need around the clock protection - a bodyguard. What? But after seeing her new bodyguard, Ellie can't help but wonder who would protect her from him? Or maybe that should be reversed? Maybe, someone should protect him from her! After all, it's been way over a year since she's had sex but the hot, sexy bodyguard would never be interested in a curvy girl like her, would he? We'll see! Although this book is part of a series, it is a standalone novella with a wonderfully sweet happy ever after ending. I can only hope that as the series goes forward, we will be able to receive additional information and updates on our favorite characters! I can hardly wait to see who gets matched next! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
