But it's a Beauty and Beast theme and many of those are clumsy and simplistic and the handling in this book definitely verged towards being that.I can't tell you how often MC Michael, a top prosecutor, refers to himself as a Beast. And there was no subtle explanation as to why... He just does, because of his past, but in other ways he seems to have things in control--seeing a shrink and seeming quite reasonable about it all. Just that he's a Beast and fears others will see his Beastly side. It just needed slightly more dexterous handling to pull that off (it can be done--I love Beast themes in romances, but many are totally dogs, so one gets jaded!).Michael also pretty much has no other facial expression than a smirk. I played about with highlighting the number of times "smirk" was used, but gave up. It got to be ridiculous. And any decent editor should have told the author to cut it out and try using a slightly wider vocabulary and more varied descriptions. As I said, the writing wasn't bad, it just wasn't great, and yes, one word used endlessly is enough to bring things down!Gabriel, the other MC, is fabulous. Pretty much only fabulous if you go by the amount of times that word was used. Somehow it worked better with Gabriel because it was sort of a joke--the over-use of that word (whether intentional or not)--since Gabriel was *sigh* fabulous. He was a good character, likable, interesting. A total stereotype, but came alive enough to not be flat.Michael, too, could have been a boring stereotype, lonely high-powered lawyer, but the author is not bad at making her characters have heart. That's why this gets 3 stars and not 2.I think there's an OK book here. I didn't stop reading and pitch it against the wall (which can happen if something is VERY badly written or the characters are just worthless--and if I'm actually reading a book and not my kindle!!!). It was readable, even likable. Just a bit off when it came to a little complexity and the handling of the language. As I said, a good editor could have done marvels. Too bad good editing seems to be dying out... (and I don't mean copy-editing... there wasn't a glaring number of typos evident here, thankfully!).Nice cover.

By Bike Book Reviews I am in love with this book, plain and simple, the writing is so good that you get a depth of character that makes you fall in love with both of these men right off the bat.Michael is scarred, inside and out by an unspeakable childhood, he thinks he can never be loved and appreciated for who he is because of what people see. I love Michael's depth, and his ability to love despite what has happened to him, when he meets the right person, he can't help but fall.Gabriel is such a special character, he is the way I think a lot of us want to be, he is who he is and he if you don't like it, so what? I love this character and you will too.The sparks are evident right when Gabriel and Michael first meet, these two are soooo hot together! Can Michael let go of his past and embrace his future? Will Gabriel embrace the beast Michael thinks he is? Or will they even get the chance to be happy after a random, hateful act?Yep friends, you HAVE to read this one for sure, you will love it as much as I do! Thank you Jaclyn, for a book that teaches us that we are always beautiful, inside and out, to someone! I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

This author is extremely talented and I look forward to reading more from her!This story could make anyone believe in soul mates! What a beautiful love story!I fell in love with Michael and Gabriel. Both men are beautiful inside and out. And absolutely perfect together!It broke my heart that Michael referred to himself as a beast. The suffering he endured as a child was horrifying. He made something of himself, becoming a Prosecuting Attorney. But he lives a lonely life, one in darkness. Michael didn't believe anyone could see beyond the scars and simply love him for him. And he certainly didn't think he was capable of love. Then he meets Gabriel and sparks fly. After a while he decides to let Gabriel in and open up to him about his past, letting Gabriel decide if they could have a future.One of my favorite things about him was his ability to accept Gabriel's love and love in return. It was beautiful seeing him experience all the first times with Gabriel. Their scene on Christmas Eve was especially heartwarming.And Gabriel, well Gabriel was fantastic! I loved how sweet, sexy and sassy he was. And his 'inner bitch' had me laughing often! Gabriel has been judged for his appearance his whole life. But he is proud of who he is and won't change for anyone. Thankfully, he had a wonderfully loving and supportive family.These two really are amazing together and all I can say is you just have to read this for yourself.This will without a doubt go on my list of favorite books of 2015! 5+ STARS!
