A new phase for the COMICS FROM THE GONE WORLD project -- an inaugural volume of what will become the complete and chronological resurrection of the 1940s' GHOST GALLERY feature, as originally published in JUMBO COMICS. Certain conditions prevail, of course: Cremo Studios reserves the right to (1) retain authentic period dialogue, where it works, and (2) inflict Absurdist and Weisenheimer Dialogue at the slightest whim, the point being to obliterate trite and fatuous redundant original dialogue at every opportunity. Painstaking art restorations, livid color images, and all in the service of GHOST GALLERY's Drew Murdoch, the ghost-hunter (a pop-literary ancestor of John Constantine, for that matter). THE GRIPES OF WRAITH also dovetails with Michael H. Price's GHOSTS AND GIRLS OF FICTION HOUSE (Yoe Books/IDW Publ.) in its deployment of alternate-cut restorations of the GHOST GALLERY pages, and a wealth of outtakes from that larger project. Horror comics before E.C. Comics? Yes.

BRILLIANT EXISTENTIALIST VAUDEVILLE FOR ADVENTUROUS READERS By Amazon Customer In the interest of full disclosure, I have to say that I'm not only a Michael H. Price fan, but one of his collaborators (on the FORGOTTEN HORRORS books and podcasts, among other things). So, yeah, I'm biased. But I've been enjoying MHP's surrealistic forays into existentialist vaudeville -- via "re-imagined" vintage comic-book stories -- for many years now, beginning with, if memory serves, his retooling of a hot-rod story from Charlton Comics into an alternate-world explication of Jean-Paul Sartre's theories called "Beating that Nothingness."Since then, Michael's Cremo Studios has launched his COMICS FROM THE GONE WORLD series, with THE GRIPES OF WRAITH its latest installment. This one is of particular interest because it's a kind of doppleganger to IDW's GHOSTS AND GIRLS OF FICTION HOUSE, a beautiful new volume MHP did with Craig Yoe. He played that one straight. GRIPES OF WRAITH offers up more of the same -- Drew Murdock horror stories from Fiction House's JUMBO COMICS -- but veers away from the original dialogue in favor of cornball gags, existential musings, and every variation on cops and donuts one could imagine. Sometimes the changes are subtle, sometimes full-throttle, which keeps the reader constantly off-kilter, waiting for the next warp in the storyline and wondering what's going to happen at the turn of every page. It's highly amusing and intensely creative and I'm very glad to be able to recommend it and the whole GONE WORLD series to readers who might enjoy getting their tickets punched for a trip like no other.
